Do you wear a wrist watch?

Hey there! Once again, I was discussing this topic with my friends and also decided to ask for your opinion. One of my friends complained about his watch giving him itching on his wrist. He must be having an allergy to nickel, so he can't wear his watch for a long time, otherwise his skin gets irritated under the watch and it starts to itch badly.
I have a wrist watch and I wear it every day. It seems I don't have any allergic reaction to metal back of the watch.
So, do you wear a wrist watch? Have you ever had an allergic reaction to a watch with nickel back?

I also wear wristwatch before and I also have allergy if it's bracelet is not a real stainless. Presently however, with the cellphones we no longer wear wristwatch but when going to an occasion, I prefer to have wristwatch still. I'm used of wearing it besides it's much easier to glance on our wrist if we need to know the time.

Yes, these fake metals can cause irritation too, in case they start oxidizing. It's a good choice to wear your watch on some occasions, because a beautiful watch can also play a role of jewelery. Thanks for responding!:)

Hello. Yes I still wear it. I got several of them, but only wear once at the time. For me its just easier to glance at my right hand, then getting a phone out.
I also like to have "something" at my hand.
I guess my family is uncommon. My wife also wears one, thats normal I guess.
Yet all my kids (from 14 to 19) wear one.
I guess my passion got to them. They all got one when they first got to school and just didn't want to take it of. And we also decided, that those who turn 18 get a "good watch" as present.
Only thing my kids are annoyed is when they are out with mates they are sometimes the only one with a watch and always got asked for the time.

Hi Biomechanoid, it's nice to know that you don't have the allergy to nickel like your friend has. It is no harm for your friend to try to use leather or other material wrist watch band. I hope watch band made with other material will not give him the allergy problem anymore. Talking about the base of metal. I have seen people using cloth mat to place under the metallic watch. The mat is purposely designed for watch wearing. Wearing the watch on it can keep the metallic base of the watch away from the contact of it to the skin. And this also can prevent the sweat to damage the metal base of the watch as well.
I don't have allergy to any metal. I just dislike to put on watch with metallic watch band. For the metal is much heavier. I like the pvc type with different colors. I like to change the band to match the clothes wearing It's so convenient for me to read the time if wearing a wrist watch when going out
Have a nice day and happy posting

Howdy, Ikbooi! Thanks for useful suggestions! I didn't knew, that there are special mats designed for placing under the watch, I should suggest them to my friend, perhaps he can find any at our stores too. And about your habit...I bet the watch you wear always suits to the clothes you have on. It's a really good idea to combine you outfit and watch band, it makes your outfit look complete! Thanks for responding and all the best to you!:)

I too wear a wrist watch everyday. I have a Titan wrist watch and though it is of leather belt, I like it very much because it is a gift which my dad gave to me. And I sometimes feel some pain if I hooked it tightly but otherwise there is no sign of allergic reactions. Even I have mobile in which sometimes I prefer to look time but it is traditional way of wearing wrist watches and so I also have a habit of following it!!

My clock has a leather belt too and it actually feels quite comfortable. It's good that you can wear it without any discomfort. Thanks for responding!:)

Looks like your husband is really used to his watch. Some people get really used to watches or jewelery, so they can't take it off, because the feeling wouldn't be the same again. Thanks for responding!:)

The only time I really wear a wrist-watch now is if I am attending a formal function, then I will wear a wrist-watch to compliment my attire and to make me look more presentable. However, I am not a big fan of them because I find them uncomfortable on the wrist, and I have a clock on my mobile phone anyway, so if I want to check the time, I will just whip that out of my pocket

Ah, I know what you mean. It's like wearing a suit or something, only on special occasions. I agree, watch can make you look more presentable. And yes, mobile phone is also a good source for checking time. Thanks for sharing!:)

I have a Casio metal wrist watch and a synthetic rubber one. I wear the metal one most of the time because it keeps time very punctually and it has an hour and minute hand that is easy to tell time. The problem with the stainless steel metal strap is that it'll have an unpleasant odour when sweat accumulated on it but so far I did not develop an allergic reaction.

I like these chronograph watches too, the ones that have separate dials for seconds, minutes and hours and one general dial too. I've encountered that smell problem too, it can be really unpleasant sometimes. I wonder if you know any way to remove that bad odor?

No, I don't wear a wrist watch. I used to wear one all the time, back in high school. But one reason or another, I just stopped wearing a wrist watch. I suppose that I just don't really need to wear one anymore. Besides, every time I try wearing one nowadays, it just feels uncomfortable and I end up taking it off soon after I put it on.

Well, you're right! If you don't have a certain need to wear the watch and it causes you discomfort, it's a right choice to quit wearing it. Thanks for sharing!:)

Since the time I learned to read the time, I have been using a wrist watch, I only remove it from my wrist every time I take a bath or wash clothes. I felt uneasy if I don't wear one. Then one day, my watch was snatched from my wrist in a busy street along downtown. Since then, I din not buy another. Now, I'm using my cellphone to know the time.

That's bad you've lost something you got so used to. These big streets with lots of crowd are dangerous places, same with public transport. You may get your watch or wallet stolen and you won't even know this. Thanks for responding!;)

I have the same reactions of metal back wristwatch, i seldom wearing watch and when i wear one it won't take long as 5 hours the longest, otherwise my skin will get irritated and there rashes will occur, but if the watch has a real metal back and a bit high quality i can wear it all day long. Some people wears wristwatch ,they use handkerchief to tie in the wrist before wearing the watch to protect their wrist from perspiring that cause itch and allergy of the skin.Happy myLotting.

It's bad that you have such allergic reaction to a metal back, but luckily there have been some solutions invented, like the one you've mentioned. Thanks for responding and all the best!:)

I never had any problems (allergic reactions) while wearing a watch. I do wear it every single day and I only take it off when having a shower, i even sleep with it. I just don't feel i have it on my wrist. I just feel I'm missing something if I'm without it :)

It's good that you are so used to your watch, that you can even sleep with it. I usually take mine off when at home. Looks like your watch has become a part of you!

I wear a wrist watch all the time so I can always know what time it is, although I also have a clock on my cell phone. Looking at the watch is just easier. I have never had any allergies to nickel or anything else. Maybe your friend should try wearing a different wrist watch, since there are many other materials are available, like plastic, leather, steel...

Soft rubber must be quite comfortable for wearing on your hand. Perhaps the only bad thing about it is that it can make the skin sweat under the watch. Thanks for sharing!:)

I used to wear a watch, but not anymore. Like your friend, I too, have an allergic reaction to the metallic wrist band. I don't like leather wrist bands too. Nowadays, I use my mobile phone instead to read the time, since I always have my phone with me.

Hey, shawnchang! I know what you're talking about. I also can't do sports properly while wearing a watch, because it bothers me. And there is always a danger of breaking the watch, because I play ball games a lot, there is a chance that the watch will get hit by the ball. But if I am outside the home and not sporting, I wear my watch with pleasure, although I always take a cell phone with me. Thanks for responding!:)

well, I don't like to wear a weist watch, bacause of my custom. it's not convenient when I washing something or doing sports. and once take off, I always forget it somewhere. I was used to notice the time on my mobile phone, it's really more convenient than wearing a wrist watch,I think.

Yes. I've been wearing wrist watch for a long time. Wearing watches is not just for fashion but it is an easy way to look for the time when your far from the clock. It is accessible and very handy. Luckily I dont have any allergy that makes my skin get irritated.
