I have lost myself

February 3, 2010 12:07am CST
Since I went into the company, I knew it wasn't the one I wanted to go. Until now, I haven't left it, because I didn't found another company. Now I have to work to make living every day. For me, the purpose of work only is to exist. I think the life is ridiculous. Because my personality, I haven't the courage and chance to do the things I like. But I think my life is meaningless like that. Most of people around me live like that, they think it's normal. But I can't bear this kind of unintresting lifestyle. I really hope I can changed my current state. Are you happy everyday?

I think you should try to enjoy your life. Never ever think that your life is awful. Hey.. look around you, there are many people who are jobless. But you are luckier than many people out there. U get a job. All u need to do is just try to love your job. My first job was receptionist in a drilling services company, and i really didn't like my job, because i always have to face angry people asking for payment that my company promised them. At that time, i was so stressed, and want to quit from my job, but I tried to enjoy that situation, and i did that. And i become more brave and patient to face people. Before i was a very shy girl. I'm sure in your company now, u will get the best experience for your life. Be happy

That's one of the worst feelings ever: to try to love your job. My personality doesn't make it any easier. For me it should be "do what you love doing and love what you're doing" instead of just "love what you're doing"...

Thank you for your advice. I do shall adjust my mind. Before I find a new job, I have to work here. So I will try not to hate it. But if I have chance, I will leave here. I can't learn anything everyday. I think I am wasting my life.

Hi Silin, I'm not agree with "Wasting my Life" because that's your fate to take that job and learn something there. Now, you know what.....you have learn something to be more wisely, more patient etc. What you have to do now is enjoy your life, leave your regret, and looking for a new job again.......:) Have Fun!!!

sometimes its security that wont let you go. security of having a permanent job. just like my case, 10 years in service, and i know what i am capable of but still im afraid to look for another job. i feel bored already with my work, it doesnt challenges me anymore. with this kind of situation, surely im not happy,..

First, we should find another job which is fit for us. And then we resigned from the current job. It's the best way for us. Because we must support ourselves and our family. Fantasy is beautiful while reality is cruel. Good luck!

No offence to you because I understand that you are unhappy in your job but it annoys me in general when people complain about their work because they should be greatful that they are employed. I lost my job recently and I loved it there. I know it is difficult to find a job that you like so I do have some sympathy but just remember that you are aerning money and some people are not this lucky.

When I was no longer happy with my job, I quit it. I chose to pursue a more risky and yet far more rewarding job possibility. I had been making a lot of money, and some of my friends and family thought that I was crazy for walking away from it, especially since the path that I chose was not guaranteed to work out. The bottom line for me, though, was that my happiness and doing something that I find rewarding (not financially rewarding but mentally and emotionally rewarding) far outweighs any monetary benefits. Unfortunately, the not for profit organization that I was helping to start did not end up being able to sustain itself, but it was definitely worth the risk. Now, instead of regretting my decision to stay where I was not happy, I can say that I took a risk, followed my heart, and did what I thought was right, even though it did not turn out the way I hoped it would.

Mjcookie, I am not sure what the rules or laws are in your country, but here in the United States, you can still earn money if you work for a not for profit organization. The work that I did there was all volunteer work, but if the organization had been able to get enough funding and business to pay for all the equipment and operating costs associated with running it, then eventually I would have been earning a salary. In a not for profit organization, the organization itself does not make any money, but the workers can still get paid, although some volunteering is necessary. With the one that I was working to build, any money that was left over after paying for the daily operations would have gone back into the organization to get new equipment, upgrade the facilities, cover the cost of the individuals that could not afford to pay for the services, and fund grants or scholarships for other endeavors related to the mission of the organization. Silindaxu, I can understand that sometimes we have to make sacrifices and take jobs that we do not like in order to pay the bills. I have had to do that myself, but as soon as I could get a job that I liked better, then I moved on. I was fortunate enough when I quit the job that I mentioned here to not only be financially stable but also have a sound resume with good job experience, so that if it did not work out I would still be in good shape. That sounds funny now given our current financial state (we are scrambling to be able to pay bills each month), but a lot of things have happened since then, and I still do not regret my decision, even though we could be doing extremely well financially if I had not quit.

Thank you for your share. I admire your courage. I quitted my job from the previous company 4 years age. I submitted my resume to a lot of companies. But Because I haven't the relevant experences, they didn't give me the chances to join their companies. I confused what kind of job I could do. And then I went to the language school and stuided the Japanese. I spent 3 months' happy time. At last I had to find a job, no matter I like it or not, because I used up my money. When I recall those days, I don't feel regret. But now, I have to consider my living and then make a decision.

Wow! That's admirable. I also wanna have a job at a non-profit organization because I wanna be a humanitarian or an environmentalist someday, but then our family is too poor so everybody's urging me to pursue nursing or medicine, both of which I don't like. :0(

I know exactly how you feel. I also don't wanna live life like that. You feel like you're not living your life to the fullest by just working. Most people believe it's normal because they're practically-minded, and what's most important for them is to make ends meet, and they are already happy with that. But to people like you (and me) who want to do more than just going to work for the heck of it, we can only be happy by doing things that we REALLY like, something that's highly purposeful. I hope you find your true happiness. :-)

I'm glad to hear that from you. Now most people have ignored nature instincts. From birth, we begin to plan our future. From the beginning, we must study and then work. At last we are in poor health. Those are our whole life. I am one of tnem some years ago. Suddenly one day, I found I didn't know the real meaning of my life. I think the basic should be happy. My cervical spondylosis is serious, because I have to sit in front of computer all day long. I especially want to find a job I like. I hope you are happy everyday, too.

I wish you could be more optimistic. You just need a little luck and more opportunities. Maybe you can find them during this period of transition. But you should still work hard and be more optimistic, so when the good luck and opportunities find you, you won't miss them! Good luck!

Happiness is actually a state of mind. If you are happy in general, you will find that no matter where you go you will enjoy the state of happiness. However, I think you are plague by worries and work that is not yours that you are more sad. Anytime you do not do something for yourself, this is not saying that it's selfishness, your emotional being is neglected. You have done yourself harm emotionally and maybe it's time you do little things you like. For example, mylotting. I enjoy coming here to mylot because it is a time where I can be me. I can talk freely and discuss matters that are dear to me. It helps me understand myself and from there I make choices of which I am happy with.

Thank you for your response. I like mylot very much, too. There are a lot of warm-hearted friends who can give me good advices and encouragement. I can learn a lot of thing from them. I wish all of you are happy!

You know what... I too feel the same. The only difference is that I am working in the company which is my dream company. But as time passed, I am feeling this isn't what I wanted. Its six and half months since I have started working and now I feel this is not interesting. Always reporting some senior (who always takes credit of your work) about the status of project. And in the end he gets chance of long rotation to US. Though, what I am doing now is planning to set up my own firm. I know its not easy, but hey I have friends who feel the same and are too planning to start a firm so we are planning to set up a partnership firm.

I'm glad to know there are so many people have the same feeling with me. It's proves that i am not too picky to like my job. If you plan to set up your company, it's important that you have stable customers and are familiar with the industry. I hope you have success with your company.

silindeaxu oh boohoo poor baby. You have a job, think about that when you are feeling so sorry for yourself. my son and thousands like him would love to have any kind of job, and some security,so thank God you do have a job and try to find something in it that you like, like the paycheck you get maybe, invest in some soul searching as to why you took this job if you knew it was not what you wanted. almost all of us have to work to make a living, so what, are you crippled, in a wheelchair, blind, handicapped in some way, why do you say your life is meaningless? You were hired and tell me why you were hired, because you are a klutz, no they thought you were right for the job, so maybe you should take a long hard look at this job. What is it you do want to do, and why cannot you do it in your spare time? why waste time in complaining about things, change what you can, and learn to live with what you c annot change. look around, there are people much worse off than you ever thought you were, grow up and maybe take some time to volunteer to help others, you dont need a pity party, you need a lift in your life. what do you want , a new play every day, a vacation on the beach. be real, try to find some happiness where you are, instead of wanting what you do not have. I am where I do not want to be, but yes I am happy every day because i am alive and breathing, I can walk,I can write, I can laugh, I have friends and I can mylot.I do not dwell on the things that are unpleasant in my life, I dwell on the good.

Because I submited my resume to some companies, But I haven't gotten any news from them. I really want to leave the present company and go to another one. But no company gives the chance to me. I have been always diligent. I hope I have a better life day by day. But until now, I haven't a challenging job that I like. I only can't see the hope of my life. If you work and study hard, but you can't get a good chance, how do you think?

Nobody is happy every day. But many people are happy most days. If you aren't happy with your work, why not make a plan for what you need to do to get into a line of work that you will like better? If you just sit there and tell yourself you can't do it, then you can't. But if you try, in an organized manner, it may very well work out. Good luck.

Once my situation is as same as you. I felt upset on an occasion. I try my best to finish my work and left the company at last. Some one think if people lose work, they look like a fish leave the water, I agree it half. I don't think that everyone's value can display through the job of the company. If people can believe in themself and have a sober estimate of own strength as well as be willing to change for a better person, they may realize their ambition in the future.

hi silindaxu. I have the same situation with you. I majored in accounting in university. Now i am a accountant in a private company.I dislike this job, i want to change another work too. But i know i can't find my favorite job now. Because first, i am not sure which kinds of job i should do,excetpt accounting, i don't know anyting at all .no object ,no hope. secondly, i have not very outstanding achivements, even if change another job,i must take the same position in here. no substantial changes.thirdly, because severe forms of employment, find a high-paid,good environemt job is hard unless you are a excellent people . So you should know what do you want to do, if you have determine your direction, don't lose self-courage,if yourself have give up, others how to help you? belive yourself,do your best, you will find nothing is possible. In short time ,if you don't change your current work ,try to accept it . do everythings by your heart, no matter how boring your job ,you can study a little from it. The opportunity is for those who are prepared.Maby when you go deep into it ,you will like it. COME ON.

I try be happy every day but that doesn't always happen, not all the time we can do what we like or want. What you are going through is perfectly normal, you shouldn't be going to work just to collect a paycheck I know some people like that and their life is totally miserable. You should love your work and do the best to be as successful as you can in life. but sometimes there are circumstances in life, that doesn't leave us a lot of choices, and sometimes we have to work in places that we really hate. You should keep trying find a better company, but in the mean time, you should try to find some extracurricular activities that satisfy you and can help you to release your stress levels when you come back from work.
4 Feb 10
Thank you very much. I will do that like you said. If I can't change my current situation, it's no use to complian it all day long.
