I advise when you have the cash to get Microsoft Office Frontpage. The program has a split screen. The top screen shows you the html and the bottom screen shows you how the page will look at the same time. I use it and it has made life a lot easier. They have lots of instructions on how to use the program and creating pages with it.
They have a free trial but the program is pricey.

There are many good sources for learning HTML for free on the internet.I have taught myself and successfully ran a website for around two years. HTML defiantly gets easier as you go, before long you will figure out the flow and structure and discover you can do a lot more then you thought. I like http://www.w3schools.com but I found that I needed more so I turned to a book called "HTML for Dummies". I borrowed a copy from the library and with in about two weeks I had a firm grasp on not only HTML but CSS as well. The book covered some of the same stuff as the websites, but also covered much more as well as supplying exercises to apply those skills. So I would suggest visiting the library and seeing what they have available.

I self-taught myself everything I know about html. I find it very time-consuming. It takes a lot of code just to do a few lines of text on a web page. I'd suggest using your favorite search to find html-learning websites. I've come across a couple, but I've long since lost the links. sorry.

Funky Chicken is the website I went to to learn html when I was in to making websites. It's basic but fun, and has a lot of cool html codes. I've noticed that it seems codes have evolved over the years, or maybe it's just that codes are different for myspace vs regular sites, but in any case... try that site out.
