In some cultures it's traditional to name a child for a relative, a family friend, or a person the parents admire. In others, it's forbidden to tie two people together by their names. How about you? Were you named for someone else? Would you name one of your children for someone else you know or admire?

Yes. A very ugly teacher whom my mother had a crush on. And he was a guy so I have a guy name. I looked it up in her yearbook once and he really was not that attractive. My mother said he was the smartest guy he knew at that time. Pretty embarrassing at first but I got over it.

hi blummus well my mom said I was named for a friend they had but I found out on my family tree that my great Aunt Patsy Ladd had the same name as they gave me, only they spelled mine Pa]tsie and hers was with the y. My mom said they did not know about my great grandmother Elizabeth Ladd Clark's sister Patsy Ladd at all. so this was a happy happenstance I guess.
