i am faced with a strange situation. for the past so many nights, i seem to wake up around 2.am daily for no reason at all. there isn't any sound or any other disturbance due to which i am awake. I simply find that my eyes open automatically around that time and i am totally helpless. the worst part is that i am not able to get back to sleep for an hour or so afterwards. i just keep tossing and turning till sleep takes over. this is proving to be a great strain and i am not able to wake up fresh.
i am so very upset due to this problem. what do i do to get back to my uninterrupted sleep days???

I found a new natural sleep aid at GNC (General Nutrition Center) which is a chewable melatonin, called Melatonin Melts, so I keep some close to the bed and those nights which I wake up w/o falling back to sleep, i chew one and it usually works and isn't like a sleeping pill that knocks you out or anything, just helps you drift back to sleep..

I don't know if nightmares are a regular occurrence along with the waking up but often people who wake up in the middle of the night do not fall asleep properly. By that I mean that they fall asleep when they are stressed out over big life issues such as work or relationships. Another issue could be going to bed hungry, or going to bed full. Your digestive system can wake you up to relieve it or simply because of the natural digestion process. If you are hungry there is another reason why you are awake. If you wake up late at night then go on mylot and earn some bucks! My last suggestion would be to cut out caffeine and anything with a lot of sugar. Stay on a sleep schedule, go to bed at the same time each night, and wake up at the same time each morning. Hopefully this helps!

like you i have trouble having full sleep, if its already night like around 8 or 9 pm i still do not have the feeling of going to bed. at first it felt like being abnormal but the way i see it, is i have some job to do and i keep on using my computer until i get real sleepy. that moment is around 1 am and i only get to wake up around 7 in the morning. sometimes i remain awake until 3 am and wake up at 10 in the morning. its like something is controlling my sleep so that i could accomplish some particular task and it appears a mistake not to do those tasks.

It happened to me, and it was such a burden. Way back, it happened whenever I have an important appointment the next day.

I do not know what to say that could help you stay asleep.Have you tried going to bed earlier or later at night to see if you still wake up at the same time? If you are still waking up at the same time no matter when you go to bed then there must be something that interupts your sleep like a noise that wakes you ,yet when you wake up the noise has stopped.

...Hi pree, Sometimes something that you have been worrying about will be in your sub-concious and will interrupt your sleep. Try to find some Chamomile tea, it is a herbal blend, drink a cup or so before you retire, you should sleep through the night without waking. Before that, you might want to think about what may be worrying you and try to come to grips with it. A hot soaking bath does wonders for your eyeballs, just don't fall asleep in the tub. Lastly you should not be drinking coffee before you go to bed, but I am sure you know that "o). Take care.

I think wake up in the midnight is terrible.Sometimes I meet this situation.and I will look around and listen carefully to find out what made me wake up.But I couldn't find anything.I think maybe we have stress and everyday tired to let us trapped in this kind of trouble.we need to relax before we go to bed.listen some light music and read books i think maybe this is a good way to go.

First of all, the fact that you are letting it upset you is worsening the problem - it's probably why it's hard to fall back asleep.
Second, as anything changed in your life recently?
Third, are you under any kind of stress that is more than normal?
Have you changed any of your habits?
Do you think you could be going through a physiological change?
Ultimately, letting it upset you is a huge contributing factor to not waking up refreshed. If you have the train of thought that you "need to get X hours a sleep a night" then your minds needs will overtake your bodies needs. Our bodies go through changes all of the time for a reason and our biggest obstacles to just accepting this seem to be that we think we should have control over the internal workings of our bodies.

i think you are right. just before hitting the bed, i am so stressed out thinking that my sleep is going to be interrupted. after the discussion in mylot, i have taken the advise to exercise and i find that now i am feeling much better. even though i woke up last night at the same time, i immediatly went back to sleep. so maybe exercise is the key...

hi
this is general thing don't worry my friend .
sometimes i also wakeup 3am but after with in half en hour i go to sleep automatically.
if you thinking something every minute before going to sleep then you automatically wakeup between at 2am to3.30am.....
so don't think any one before going to sleep .......
and start sleep freely.
then every morning you will be very fresh and some confidence about the day.
thanking you
have a nice day and happy nights

Do you recentlly need to go to work every day in that time? If I used to wake up several day in the same time, I will kept wake up at the same time even I didn't need to wake up so earyly anymore!
If you not the situation I mentioned, are there any chance you have too much pressure right now? I have some experience like you, but I just close my eyes and told myself sleep sleep and sleep, and you can image the picture sometimes you were very deeply want sleep, it really help me a lot!

I have been doing this too, only about 3 or 3:30! I started taking some valarien root to help me sleep. It seems like it helps, even if I wake up for a second I get right back to sleep.. maybe it's an old age thing!

Yea i have the same problem i wake up at 3:30 or 4. it may be due to a bad dream at times but it sometimes i wake up for no reason. may be its because we have a disturbed mind through the day so our mind is strained at nights. people said our mind sleeps when we sleep but i heard that's not true it seems our mind is even more awake at night than day time. don know how far its true.

I have similar issues and its definately not due to old age. I'm only 30. My problem tends to be due to my job and the amount of stress I deal with on a daily basis. I work in IT and my husband and I have a lot of bills to pay which is commonly what keeps me up at night. Its not like I conciously think about it, its normally my subconcious that will not keep quite, which prevents me from getting the good nights sleep I so desperately need. I have turned to taking a glass of milk before bed which sometimes helps, but overall I need to improve my financial situation. My advice is to do an analysis of what is currently going on in your life. Most likely you will find that there is something bothering you that may also be the cause of your restless nights.
