Do you know any way how to stop hiccup?

Hello there! I think it's hard to find a person who had never hiccuped. Sometimes hiccuping may get quite annoying, especially in public places. There are many means to stop it around there. One that I've heard is drinking water with your nose shut with fingers. I've tried it a couple of times, but it didn't have any significant effect. And guess what? Here I am, hiccuping again.
What do you usually do when you're hiccuping?

Yes...the hiccups can be a real bummer!
I've heard that drinking a few sips of water from a glass.....upside down....that is, hold the glass in front of you and take a drink from the farthest part of the glass.....the "outer side of the glass. Not the side right in front of you when you hold it....does that make any sense?
Well this doctor was talking about it. I have never had to try it. But, he said that is an effective way to get rid of the hiccups.
Good luck!!!

Ah, I know what you mean. Never tried to drink like that actually, but must check that method out too next time I'll start hiccuping. Thanks for suggestions!:)

Yes, they are gone. They just disappeared, I didn't even notice that. I usually don't hiccup for more than ten minutes. And luckily I don't get hiccups very often!

Biomechanoid,
Well, drinking water actually could cure hiccups but what you did was wrong.
First, you will need a glass of warm water or milk and whilst you are drinking it, try and exhale through your nose while swallowing at the same time.
You need not squeeze your nose whilst doing it.
Another way, would be swallowing your saliva whilst exhaling when you do not have water around.
Try it and I am sure you handle this without any difficulty.
Note: Always use warm water!

You are welcome, Biomechanoid!

Ah, I think that wrong temperature of the water I drank was the reason it didn't have any positive effect! I usually don't like to drink warm water, so I think I used a cold one that last time. And I also wasn't exhaling at the same time, so it was like double fault
I'll be wiser next time, thanks for enlightening me!:)

If your still hiccuping try drinking said water with your head down, almost like your drinking like a cat. Do not tilt the glass up to you, rather tilt yourself to the glass. Put the glass about at your chest, then tilt down and drink it. I was watching Dr. Oz and he said that was another method that could work.

I once heard of a girl who started hiccuping one day and couln't stop for weeks. As for me I either hold my breath or drink something.

That would be crazy to hiccup all the time. I heard that sometimes being scared by something may provoke hiccuping. Thanks for responding!:)

Deep breaths is the easiest thing to stop hiccups. At least for me it does. Also, just drink something. It will eventually go away. The most unconventional way would be to have someone sneak up on you and scare you but it is kind of hard to get scared when you are expecting it. Hiccups are never fun, as they pop up at the worst possible times.

I agree, being scared when you expect it may not work, but taking deep breaths may work. You're also right that hiccups usually come at the most uncomfortable moments. I've seen a guy who was holding a speech, but suddenly started to hiccup. It was hell of a funny case, but I think that guy didn't have as much fun as auditory did. He just was trying to shut the hiccuping up with water, but he didn't succeed. Thanks for feedback!:)

I've actually been able to cure my hiccups with this one pressure point I've found. It's the point between your two collarbones. I'm not sure if it works for other people, or I just have a strange anatomy, but it works all the time! And I've always heard that eating a spoonful of peanut butter every day helps prevent hiccups.

Once again, I got some surprising methods for curing hiccups from your answer! There have been some in previous responses and you managed to surprise me too! I think that using that point of pressure actually has some logical explanation, so I think it's worth to try for me. Thanks for responding!:)

We're just lucky that I wrote an article for my school newspaper on the subject a few years ago, aren't we?

I can not remember a time recently that i have had hiccups thinking about it.If a friend had hiccups then i would put a set of cold keys down their back as they say that a shock can also stop the hiccups,or i would startle a friend as that is another way to get the hiccups to go away.If that do not work then there is nothing else other than ice cold water to drink that may help.

Wow, you mentioned the methods I never heard about before. That's really something new for me, but the explanation for these methods is quite logical. I should try that shock therapy next time! Thanks for recommendations!:)

I;m surprised that no one from the Philippines has come forward to share a funny trick for curing hiccups. It is said that a sure way to cure someone of a case of hiccups is to take them by surprise. Yes, as in "Boo!" Scare them to the point of mildly scaring them, haha. Sometimes what we'd do is clap loudly right in front of the hiccuping person and say Bah! or something. I've found that it works sometimes, maybe because the heart skips a beat and breathing is interrupted or something. Hehe :)

Well, you have that honor to be first from your country to suggest me some nice method of curing hiccups. And the method you mentioned really looks like a fun one, I even start to wish I had hiccups more often, so I could try different methods!
Thanks for an entertaining response, have a great day!:)

Yes, finding someone to help you with that procedure may be a real problem, especially when you're in some public place and there are lots of strange people around you. Thanks for sharing that one with me!:)

There are lots of ways to cure hiccup. The one that works for me is swallowing rice ball. Not too big so it chokes you but at least close it it. So this maneuver is kind of a dangerous if you don't know the right size for you. I learned from my experience :)

I should try testing different sizes and find out which is the most suitable for me. Thanks for suggestion!:)

Something which works for me is to close the nose and blow air in such a way that air tries go out of your ears.
Doing this simple exercise cures for most and it's worth a try as nothing to loose.

Ah, I think it has something to do with changing pressure inside your head, because the same method is thought to be useful to avoid unpleasant feeling in your ears, when the plane is taking off. Anyway, it may work for getting rid of hiccups! Thanks for recommendations!:)

haha, that's really an interesting stuff. I heard that drinking hot water is more helpful. Hiccup may make someone embarrassed, especially in public areas.
