Basically, to optimize an article for a search engine, you need to use keywords. Keywords are the words that people search for. For instance, if you were searching for a new car, "new" and "car" would be the keywords. You could write "Buying a new car is an experience to be enjoyed." And another couple of sentences later you could mention that a new car is a major purchase.
A search engine sees both instances of the keywords as the same and rates an article according to that. If you use the words too many times, it's called "keyword stuffing" and search engines won't like it. About 10% is the accepted level.
If you make sure an article titled "Buying a New Car" is actually about buying a new car and not some get rich quick scheme (or worse), you'll usually hit it about right.
Also, using your keywords near the beginning of an article carries more weight, but scatter it throughout and be sure to use it in the last few sentences.
I hope that helps.

Hello there donna. SEO means search engine optimization and with keywords that are carefully selected and crafted in your articles and posts, you will have a high chance of getting ranked well on search engines. Provided you optimize the words carefully. You can try to gauge or you can use specific websites to help you study which keywords are good for usage. For me, generally I just use the search engines and make a gauge for myself. I prefer my own style of SEO usage, and that's without sticking to a site for estimation. I feel restricted when I do that, so I just roughly look for the search results and form my own keywords. It's basically a trial and error thingy with SEO, and many experts whom have gotten this skill, they hold on to it and keep on improvising too. I'm still an amateur and learning. But these are some basic stuffs which I can share, hope this helps.
