I am currently looking at changing my laptop from a PC to a mac. Anyone know anything about doing that? Can anyone tell me of any problems they are having with PC -- Mac compatibility? I am a college student and I want good solid computer. My current PC is a lemon. Also can anyone tell me what the difference is between a macbook and a macbook pro?

Howdy caecal07!
What course are you taking up anyway? Freshman? or I mean Freshwoman? lol
Well I'm an apple mac geek nerd or a macatoid or mac fan boy or whatever. You're in the right place to know Apple's Macs here, lady caecal07.
There's a good deal for a college student like you if you going to have Apple Mac. Just browse to their website Apple.com.
According to Apple.com for now that the - 13" Macbook is the least model configuration for their portable computers. Price is about $999. Next are the MacBook Pro the 13", 15" and 17" prices ranges from $1,199 to $2,499. Other model is the MacBook Air is lightiest portable computer for Apple Mac (these are quivalent to PC's UMPC but sooner Apple will have their latest portable computers the Apple iPad).
If you gonna take for a Macbook. You can edit videos and musics for just some standard creativity but high on quality production. Simple and faster. All Macs can have a productivity package application called iLife 09 it has photo, video, music, web developing. Also the latest Mac OS X Snow Leopard, iTunes, Safari, Quicktime Player 10.
Apple Macs has version of MS Office but there is much greater than that, Apple's own iWork09 it is much cheaper even on the MS Office for students editions.
Don't need or necessarily to have Antivirust applications such as Nortons or McAfee and pay annual subscriptions fees. But there are Nortons, McAfee and other antivirus applications available on Apple Macs.
If you want there are also lots of pirated version applications for Apple Macs also.
Questioning compatabilities? By the way what compatabilities are you questioning?..... But my answer on these matters is that, what you want on a computer or in mind you can have it on Apple Macs either on their desktops or portable computers. Apple Macs are the real computers it is not just how it looks. Or they always saying it is much costly. It is costly because of high quality standards both on hardware and software. And less head and heart aches. It has more productivity, fun and lifestyles you can have.
You can install MS Windows (install genuine of course) legally on Apple Macs and use applications or even games if you want. HHhmmmm Games? you can have games if you want how about PSP, PS, Wii or xBox or even on an iPhone or iPod Touch.
But I know you don't want games for now because your still a college student. Invest first on your education to have more productions. If you have more productions you can have more Apple products and even more productions, fun, lifestyles and even games. hehehehehehhehe
Thanks and Enjoy! myLot!

oh wow. That's so great. And your so fast. lol. Welcome to the world of Apple Macs and sooner you'll be a macatoid geeky nerdy girl...lol.. How come you just decide and get that so fast? lol.
What Apple Macbook do you have? Where to you get that Macbook? What is that 1,500 bill? Is that the price of the Macbook? And are you having a garage sale (because you have inventoried your parents house so you can return the cashes have you lost in having that Macbook....lol)? Sorry for asking a lot but I'm not a police officer or whatever you may think of me. lol.
Time Machine is a backup application utility. It is better if you have a separate Hard Disk space for backing-ups large and important files automatically. Or if you want have those Apple's "Time Capsule". But, I know for you it is not yet important for you there are more other things you have to know or to do at the moment.
Accidentally zooming in and out. Well I still have little know about Macbooks or still have not yet use. Especially using the track pads. But I'll just presumed I just know about it and give you suggestion or ideas. Like setting-up the options the Preferences for the touch pad at the Preference Pane.
FYI there's soon be a MS Office 2011. To know more about apple softwares updates I recommend for you to visit or subscribes RSS or emails in "Macupdate" website. Or visit other websites for Apple Macs. Watch videos different Apple Macs users on youtubes. Videos like unboxing, reviews and experiences. Recommend channels like soldierknowsbest and macmost.
BTW, I'm using for a year now an Alu iMac 20" (Model early 2009). I just have the Apple Magic Mouse. And life is just simpler but has greater production, fun and lifestyle. I'm a graphic designer and doing multimedia stuffs.

Since you are a college student, i assume you juggle work with fun. you are probably a type who likes to surf net, work on projects, complete assignments, keep track of your notes, recorded teachings (if any), you like to throw in a couple of games in between, rock on to music tracks, keep your college album organized :D and ofcourse unless you are a female, you cant live without gaming!
In order words, you dont need something stable and eye candy. you need something very flexible, an os which can cater to your demanding needs. now god forbid if you are going to buy a mac.
for a college student buying a mac will be like marrying a person by seeing his/her looks only.
