What is the largest one.you've seen?
What's the thickest one you've seen?
What's the nicest one you've seen?
Here's a photo of my neighbors.
His is HUGE and thick as well.
I've seen one a bit larger and thicker.
It goes from the roof and connects with his rose bush.
So his is about 8 feet long.
Maybe 6 inches around as well.
I am talking about icicles.
CHeck out the photo.

Wow, that's a big one! I've seen some pretty big, long ones when I was a kid but haven't seen anything like that since I moved back to the Midwest. I have a few hanging from my house but they're pretty small. My neighbor has more and they are longer. I wonder why?

His gutters are more clogged than yours.

It's called ice jamming.
If a house is not insulated real well the warm out escapes causing the snow etc to melt creating this.

Thanks Grandpa and BarBaraPrz! It's nice to know that my gutters are fine and the little bit of insulation I have (house is 85 years old) are doing their job!

Thanks for sharing this pic of icicle. We will probably be seeing some around here since we just got about 6 inches of snow here over night and expecting more throughout the next week. I could do without it and we have had more snow this year than we have had in a few years. Supposed to be arctic cold here as well.

As of the 10 inches we got here the other day we are now 5 inches above normal for average snowfall amounts. It hasn't snowed like this for a lot of years as well here. Been weird without tons of snow like this.

I had a look at your photo and left a comment.
It really is fascinating to see what nature can form.
I have only seen icicles in caves.
Is all this ice going to damage his rose bush? What happens to your garden after it has been covered with snow?

Nope, the rose bush will survive I am sure.
Nothing happens to it.
Comes spring thaw I dig it up and turn the soil adding compost and start again.
Lotta work for sure.

I used to get some impressive ones myself, at my last house, but a friend of the time took too much pleasure in smashing them down...
(Does the word 'icicle' look weird to anyone else?)

We had a big storm a few weeks ago and it was snowing in the mountains. A reporter was in Truckee talking on camera when a woman came out of a store and stood just under the roof. He shooed her off and told her there was a huge icicle over her head. After she left, he threw something at it and it fell down. It was pretty big, but not quite that big!

Wow, that's what you call impressive! It's really cold there, isn't it? I hope the spring will come soon, I think I would die if where I live it was as cold as it looks in your picture
