Are actors and professional athletes paid to much? Or do you think they have earned and deserve what they got?
I think in most cases people who are famous had to work for where they are and what they have. But those born into fame, maybe they don't deserve all that they have. But what about those very highly paid actors, athletes and musicians, do you personally think that they are overpaid?

Professional athletes are paid way to much where doctors, police, fire, teachers, medical etc, are not paid enough for the jobs they do.

Agree with you on that, doctors have to go to school for a long time, and have to keep current on recent discoveries. While the athlete usually gets a free education, then plays pro for a few years, then usually ends up broke because they waste all their money. But it is the silly people, that are willing to pay these outrageous amounts to go and see these games.

Yes, they are very good at what they do but so are all the other professions.

It depends from which country these actors and actresses come from. Even professional athletes from the west make tons of money for displaying their skills. While the same people in my country will not make a clean cut in their earnings. Their talent and skills are not well recognized even how good they are. They still have to work hard to reach where most of their counterparts in others countries are already living a comfortable life as public figures in the entertaining world.

i think they are overpaid but normally the good advantage to be a part of some circle in society and work and show business is that you can earn big money doing simple things!!You should also count that they are paid so much because people give them many attentions and so sponsor and sell grow up so normally if they earn millions of dollars sponsor or producers will earn 10-20 times more than single actors or athletes as well!!

I think they are all overpaid. No one deserves to make 20 million just for making a movie. I think its totally ridiulous. Doctors, firemen, Police are the one who are saving lives and should be paid this type of money. Not an actor or actress who is protraying a doctor or policemen.

I actually tend to disagree with you. I think that the majority of them are all overpaid for what they do. I think in some cases what the actors and actresses own make a fair wage. However, I really think that the problem comes in with what the athletes make. I think that they are paid way too much. Yes, they may have had to work very hard to end up where they are, but the jobs that these people hold are not necessary for our society to continue.

If it’s a comparison between how hard I slog it out everyday and the peanuts I earn, then yes, I do feel they are overpaid and am envious of them but if I truly ponder over their lives and mine, I’d not like to change places really. I think the first and foremost casualty to fame is personal life and time spent with family, which no amount of money can replace. All celebrities are contract bound, something they have to put before themselves and their family. And it’s a vicious cycle too…once you’ve got used to that kind of money and staying in the limelight, you don’t really want to retire to oblivion and penury so they have to really sacrifice the prime of their lives to ensure that much money for their future too. and we must remember that each celebrity is like an industry into himself/herself…they support so many others down the line, so they do deserve that much money. However, I agree completely with you regarding the ‘born with platinum spoon’ types…they are just born very very lucky!

Yes. They play a game or play make pretend for an enormous amount of money. Its absurd. All they do is entertain people and they make so much money. I guess its capitalism though because we pay them more and more.

Dear friend,
I hope they need a luxurious life, for that they need money. But at times this money could spoil them and their talents. In that case it is overpaid, may that overpay had made a negative impact. Moreover at times their talents do deserve that payment. But may be if billions are paid I hope talent is no more an art it becomes a product that is highly costly. They are selling themselves and there are people who are will to buy them with those overpaid amounts.

Though they did have to work hard to get where they are, there is just no limit and the prices are becoming outstanding. There was a time when the President of the United States was the highest paid individual in the country. Now he doesn't even come close to making a 10th of some of the lowest paid actors, atheletes, and ceo's. There has to be some sort of regulation in my opinion.

This is a difficult disscussion to contribute to but I think that professional athletes as well as actors deserve the income they receive! They work hard and there must be so much pressure having to face the limelight all the time and not everyone can do that in my view! I certainly couldn't do that! For those born into fame, like the children of actors and athletes, well they have a very privileged lifestyle! I guess they have to be taught by their famous parents that nothing comes on a plate and that to achieve anything in this world you have to work extremely hard. If they are not taught this then they grow up all spoiled and living in a different world altogether, siver spoons in their mouths as it were! Andrew

I don't think so. They must have done a lot of hard work before. It's not easy to be a famous person. Their personal life is no longer personal. It's just a high-paid job. If you are interested, then you can do.
It's just my opinion, I don't mean anything.

To live a life under the scrutiny of people you don't know, to lose privacy, to be always on the run from paparazzi, for your kids not to enjoy walking in the park or in the mall for fear of being mobbed by fans, to be faultless as much as possible - the list continues...yes, they do deserve their paychecks.

My father is a doctor and we are not rich as athletes are, but we live ok. But my parentes have been in Cuba several times and he knows doctors over there that live very poor. The communism is suposed to be that everyone gains the same amount of money, food, etc.. and its fair, but that's not the truth.
I think its not fair that very talented people from poor countries are struggeling while most stars we know in the U.S. are multimillonaire!! They are paid, not what they deserve, its a publicity environment what makes them rich!!!
I hope I made my point clear, i'm from Mexico and my english is not so good.

I think they work their way up to being highly paid. It is heavy competition. I think some are better than others and should be 'overpaid'. And the athletes I think should get highly paid. The actors I am not so sure about. If they are good they should get good pay for what they do but now days the amount seems outrageous.

I don't think actors or athletes should be paid that much. They make millions. Why don't doctors make millions. Yes, they make a lot but not nearly as much. It's really a waste of money. They entertain us and that's it. If they enjoy doing there job they shouldn't have to be paid so much. All that money could be going to something much more important. I think it's wrong but it's just my opinion.
