I know I am foolish for have used my credit card and not being able to cope with the bills, but I tell you, I didn't use it for the sheer fun of charging things that I don't need. I guess the financial crisis just got me. Anyone else here having problems with their credit card debts and law firms filing cases against them? What do you do about it? Could we really go to jail because we cannot pay due to tight budgets? Any tips? I don't really mean to not be able to pay.

Going to jail? That depends on what agreement did you sign when you got the card in the first place. Jail or not, you have to find a way to pay them back. Don't ruin your integrity or character just because of money. Be responsible. You had your fun, so face the music and bite the bullet. Be brave to face your obligations! I'm facing mine even if I didn't even use the cards. I'm paying for somebody else's wrong doing. I know it's my fault as well to be too trusting so now, I'm paying the price.

It's not necessarily that a person is going to jail immediately. they will be given several warnings and then take it for legal action on one of the law firms. one thing i hate too is paying for some one else's card. but it's not my call since am not the one paying for it.

I do! Lend it to my friend and now I'm paying the HUGE PRICE! My family is suffering because of it. Collection agencies are hounding me non-stop. Sigh!If only I can turn back the time.

fortunately, i don't... i am always very careful in using my credit card as i don't like to have any debt at all... i don't make any purchases that i can't afford and i always make sure that i pay all my bills every month on time... i don't really know about the credit card law in your country... but over here, i don't think that the creditor can straight away put you to jail just because you can't make your credit card payment... especially if you try your best to put little money every month to pay off your debt and make arrangement with them... take care and have a nice day...

Thankfully I have paid off all my debts and am now debt free. It wasn't easy, but I got it done. I don't use credit cards unless it is an emergency situation and I budget enough to pay them down as quickly as possible to not get over my head.

I've had problems with credit card debt in the past and actually I'm still paying off the debt now! When I come to think of it this was the worst course of action I could have taken, I wish I didn't now and I have many regrets. Still, I'm treating it as a learning experience and I'm never going to walk down that path again. I'm going to say one thing that's positive about credit cards and that is, they can get you out of a sticky mess if you are stranded in another country with no funds. This is the only situation I can think of where they would be considered invaluable. Once I have paid off my debt I won't be getting another credit card. I really did go through a spending craze and now I'm paying the consequences. When I got into trouble I got in touch with a charity called nationaldebtline. They are free to ring and they gave me invaluable advice. As far as I'm aware, you cannot go to prison or jail for failure of paying debts. However, you do need to make contact with your creditors and inform them of everything that is going on with you financially. If you have been honest with your creditors and filled in a budget sheet and shown them your particulars then you really have nothing to fear. Good luck. Andrew

Hello laydee mine Dad and mom have to go through such similar problem way back in past, when the credit cards were new thing in our country.Yeah they had made some purchases and withdrawals on it, and weren't able to afford the billing system of it.So they ended up paying nearly 250% of the actual amt spend.Yeah for that they paid it out of some savings and other half by taking an loan from that same bank for the payment of credit card debts.Else don't know what are the consequences.Anyways wish you luck to solve your credit card debt problem, happy mylotting.

hey there! it's not me but i knew someone who has a problem with credit card ., she always got this attitude of being a shopaholic then she consulted me regarding what to do with her debt in credit card ., she was so afraid cause she cannot paid it anymore because she got laid off ., that is so bad but i told her to call the credit card company and arrange it for a consolidation ., haven't heard anything about it for a long time now and i just hope she resolve it already .,

i'm up the creek with my credit card as well, big time we keep the payments up. but that's it at the moment. i'm lucky not of had any debt collectors after me, but i still don't like the mess i've made of the card, i'm leanring from my mistakes with it and will drop the limit as i get it down. i'm thinking of dipping in to my super fund, only to pay half the card out and drop the limit, then find another way to get rid of the ohter half of it. and the big thing is to learn form it for me. i'd be happier then.

I am quite lucky I only have a debit card I don't believe in credit cards if I ain't got the money I can't afford to buy something. I do have sympathy though one of my friends run up a £500 debt and he was unable to pay it off that £500 debt is now about £800 just from the charges the credit card companies have added to the debt. He is currently being taken to court over his debt and has had baliffs round trying to collect the money. So yeah debts should be taken very seriously they really can mess you and your ability to live up really bad hope it works out for you

Hello laydee, I only have a debit card and that is one from union bank. how ever my mom have this BPI credit card that she's been assigning me to pay for it every once a month. i would say that it's almost fifty dollars a month and it's already. i really don't like being behind in these payments. but one things i hate though is my brother asking my mom to pay his credit card bill which will be near in legal action from the bank, which i really hate it so much

Ease your mind, my dear!! Smile. I have paid off all my debts - and I have been a collector as well. My credit is by no means perfect... and, I'm sure you care even more than I do about it. But, here's what I've learned: 1. They can garnish, but not take you to jail; our whole country would be in jail!! LOL. They are powerless people in a power-pretending job. 2. Biggie... When you make a payment (say $25) - If you have any extra like $5-$25, between due dates... send it in!! It makes your interest period go back to ZERO. Here's what I mean === DUE DATE 15th/month ....interest starts to grow....until the 15th of the next month; 2nd payment breaks that time up and instead of 30% interest growth === you chop it in half (example: 15%). get it!! 3. Make sure your payment gets there about a week before your due date. 4. Only make small purchases, if you can help it...i.e., gas, food, etc

I had a credit card before and have used it in a few times. My problem started when i change location where a partner bank is not available for my payments. and so, i started to forget it until 5 years later when i had the courage to inquire about my balance. And BWALAH! my 15t balance rose to 36t! I enter into agreement with the firm and they will give me 50% discount if i will pay within the next 5 days. I even ask for another 5 day extension and was granted .and so i did. No worries now though i still want a credit card for myself. I learned my lesson well.
