I saw Avatar twice in 3D. If you are going to see it, definitely see it in 3D. I loved the movie. The movie takes place in a beautiful place called Pandora. It is absolutely breathtaking to watch. Sigourney Weaver is in the movie, and she does a great job. Zoey Saldana also has a lead role. She puts on an amazing performance. It encompasses everything you would want in a movie: action, great scenery, love story. I recommend it very highly. It is a very long movie, but it is definitely worth every penny of admission

The movie itself (storyline, characters etc) I honestly could not care for. I really didn't care what happened to anyone in the movie. I never felt emotionally invested in the Navi people or in the romance. The storyline is basic and very genertic. Americians are greedy and will destroy anything while the other people are natural and "good".
As for the graphics. They were amazing. There were so many different things going on that I would be staring at that were just plan cool. I can see many many films are going to do this and it will get even better and better.
It is possible that in order for me to catch all the graphic wonder they failed to capture me for the actual movie.
Basically my opinion is see the movie so that you can see the next generation of film making (kinda like Toy Story was the first full length computer generated movie)Now a days lots of stuff is CG and it isn't a big deal. One day this style will be commonplace and easy to do too if you are in that field. But if you are going for storyline then forget it.

I have never read any negative comment against that movie. In fact, there seems to be the opposite because they even say that the box office Titanic was overtaken by the movie already. I think the story was quite original and was some kind or parallel to our history when men started exploring our earth. In this movie it is when men started exploring space. I think this is what i interesting since it has gone beyond space exploration so you would expect that it will be very exciting story when we humans started mingling with the alien species.

Still haven't seen this movie. I am now looking forward to it coming out on DVD because I really do want to see it, but I couldn't find anyone to go with to see it at the theater. I can't wait to find it on DVD because I feel that my children are going to enjoy this movie as much as I am likely to enjoy it.
What I liked about the previews of the movie is that it seemed surreal and magical in a certain sense and that appeals to me.

Dorannmwin: Nice to talk with you. You should watch this 3D movie in the cinema instead of DVD. It's totally difficult between the general movie and 3D movie. This movie is so amazing, the best movie I watched so far.
Have fun with your children on this movie!

My creative non-fiction professor always said that in order to have a great movie, you must have a great script too. He said Avatar is not a bad movie since you can actually see the next generation of movies starting with avatars great graphics and cinematography. We actually had like an hour discussion in class about this movie since my professor was not impressed with the script.
I agree with him on the script since i was looking for more oomph! so to say, from the script but i quite disagree with him that this is just another good movie. For me, the Movie was great. Maybe James Cameron was looking to be minimalistic about the script. I think Avatar is great because of the issues it tries to present to us.
By creating a surreal world and setting the time of the narrative to be in the future, those issues are somewhat relegated to the sidelines but they are still indeed obvious to me. What more is that they are presented in a new and refreshing way.
The narrative of the movie had me asking: so when our resources on Earth run out, we are just going to find another planet to destroy? Are we just going to conquer and enslave another race since our way of life is threatened? Do countries who are powerful have the right to impose their ideals and needs on the weak, presupposing that the weak can and will always move and understand just to fulfill the powerful's needs? We need to seriously rethink our paradigm of looking at our planets resources if we are to survive. We also need to seriously rethink our relations with our fellow humans, and maybe aliens, when that time comes (if that time comes) that we discover that we are not the only sentient living creatures on this universe.
Those ideas that were presented in Avatar, to me, make the movie a great one. It made me think and showed me things I already knew and thought about in the past in a new way while enjoying a movie. Those ideas, to me, warrants more discussion and praise for Avatar, beyond just saying that it is a great movie because it has superbly made graphics and intricate cinematography and that it has pushed the bounds of movie-making as we presently know it.

I think it was awesome, it made me cry and is only the second movie amongst the dozens I've watched that I actually want to watch it a second time!
I think it's an indirect way of telling the story of what's going on around here, about what's the west is doing to us in the middle east and elsewhere, but the only difference is, Jake doesn't exist

We saw it in 3-D and it is easily one of the most fascinating pieces of art I have seen in a long time. I would never recommend seeing this film without 3-D. The methods have changed dramatically over the years. We almost felt some of the characters walked past us!
I have every intention of seeing it again and again, because there is no way to capture everything on the screen in one sitting. If you are a lover of artistry, by all means go to this one!
