Facebook password change

I just found an old email from a guy at Yahoo. Here is what it says;
Dear user of facebook,
Because of the measures taken to provide safety to our clients, your password has been changed.
You can find your new password in attached document.
Thanks,
Your Facebook.
This seems really weird to me. I have 2 facebook accounts, an old one I've forgotten the password to and a newer one that is linked to gmail.
I have not opened the enclosed document and I will not. Has anyone else who uses Facebook received one of these emails? I feel I should alert someone at Facebook but I don't know how.
Any feedback, advice or info is welcome.

I use facebook, but not very often as i have grown very bored of it.My husband and also my children and a few friends have also got face book and none of us have had an email like that.We have had nothing at all saying about a password change from facebook or any where else,i have heard that they have had hackers as well as a lot of virus problems,so stear clear of the email and ignore it as i do not think it would be facebook sending you this.

McTickle, I don't think the people are getting a virus from FB. They are getting them from these SPAM emails that people don't pay as much attention to as you did, and they open them. Then they are hit with a virus, a worm, among other things. Some of them will take your computer over. This is a good reason never to open something that doesn't seem just right. In fact, I hardly ever open up something that I don't get from a friend or a legit email from a company where I have signed up on their site. I've been on FB for many years, and I've never had a problem.

never !! never !! never !! never !!
dont open that application
nowadays the number of spams have increased like h*ll..
those apps mayb trojans or viruses which can perform installations in ur machine and take away ur secured information like credit card details.
those results in phishing
better avoid opening such spams..

Hi arun_p_g and welcome to myLot. I hope you like it here, it's a great place to earn a little cash and make new friends and have fun!
I never, never, never would open something like that, well not the attachment anyway, it was a bit hard not to open the mail when it said it was from FB.

I can almost assure you that this is not legit. I don't think Yahoo would send out a letter to you saying they had changed your password. Only you can do that. And, if they were writing to you personally, knowning your password was changed, why do they write to 'Dear user of Facebook'?? When things like this come across my monitor, I delete them - never give them a change to mess up my computer with their virus or get information from me. I would almost bet that it would take you to an illegitimate page that would look exactly like Facebook but with a little difference that you wouldn't notice and then they'd have your password! As long as you can get into FB, don't worry about it. But it might be a good thing to let FB know what is going on.But I don't know how to tell you to do that. Maybe someone else can.

Hi Barb...nice to see you. Yeah, I realised straight off it was not legit and to be honest I've never come across any sort of attempt to grab my info. I've heard others have had it happen but this was a newy for me.
It's gone now. There was no way I was going to open the document...I can't believe people open stuff like that.
One of the other responders kindly provided me a link to send the offending email to. It's out of my hands now, thank goodness.

I also don't like FB Gabs...I find all the sending of stuff to your friends rather confusing and pointless and the games are awful. Never mind, there is a kids site where I play games that I love...that's enough for me...lol.
I would never open something like that Gabs...it amazes me that some people do. I was wondering if anyone else had seen such an email and as a way of alerting people to be on the lookout for such scams.

FB tried to help me recover it ages ago but I got confused and kept entering the wrong word. I finally told them to shove it. The account is still there and I can get in but I'm not really interested. I even have a new account, making 2 accounts in total, which I barely visit.

I go by the rule to never open an attachment to an email unless I'm absolutely sure who sent it, Ms Tickle. It's an easy way to pick up unwanted virus on your computer. I use FB regularly and have not heard of anyone else receiving such an email from them.

Thanks worldwise, that's what I was particularly interested in. I would never open any attachment in this instance or from someone I don't know. I only opened the email because it said Facebook Password. I reckon any one who does have a FB account would open that mail.
At least the people responding here will all b e aware there is a scam email going round now.

Contact Facebook and copy and paste that message you received in a letter to them. It will make them aware because no website just changes its users passwords.

DO NOT OPEN!!!! This has scam written all over it! Usually when facebook has a problem they will address it from the site, not through email. I do not think facebook would ever change your password without asking first to. Like i said do not open this sounds like someone trying to cheat you!

Yea don't open that document. Facebook cannot change your password like that and would inform you in a way that you would know for sure it was legitimately facebook if they did anything like that. Also, you would probably get a message ahead of time if they felt the need to. This is definitely a scam of some sort. It would probably have you type your password in to some box and steal your password! Good call staying away from it!

It's almost definitely a scam. There's a small chance that Facebook might alert you to an issue with your password, but they would never change it for you and send the details in a document you have to download. I expect the document contains a virus of some sort.
