Cartoon films --- at your age, do you still watch them?

From work, my 21-year old daughter was so excited in telling me that we go to a mall and watch a movie. It has been a while since I have watched one good movie and I hurriedly prepared to go.
She treated me to a cartoon movie and she wouldn't budge when I told her that we watch another movie instead. She was successful and I was inside the movie house with her.
At your age, do you still watch cartoon movies? What is your take on this?

Hi,
I still watch Anime and American cartoons, despite my age. I do not mind watching them and prefer them anytime to Telenobelas and Dramas which is too
I think it grew out of frustration about Voltes V (yes I am that old) being pulled off the television by Marcos - because of its violent contents and at the same time, it was a cliffhanger (the mystery of Dr. Armstrong which was shown authorities got soft). My father was also angry that I watched because he though that i was "abnormal" - yes its harsh but you realize that in Japan there are people older than me still reading manga. So technically, now it is normal that unusual or odd.
Now, it's a trend for teenagers to dress up like their idols in manga (otaku) - cosplay, which I find rather cute. I often look forward to watching animes over the weekend.

Hi Joseline0568,
These cartoon movies really amuse and make us enjoy our day. I also like to watch Walt Disney films which are targeted for children. I like the clean fun and the laugh that it generates from me, a 53-year old lady, hahahaha. Yesterday, I was not only enjoying the movie "The Princess and the Frog" but I also enjoyed listening to loud laughter and giggles from the children who were nearby. It is such a nice good feeling to hear children's laughter.

sorry never got the first paragraph complete: telenovelas and dramas are way too sappy, corny, repetitive.

Hi Yresh12,
The children in us --- that's why we enjoy these things. I was enjoying it there the whole time we were watching "The Princess and the Frog". My children who are 23, 21 and 20 watch these from DVD at home. I am just curious what makes them laugh from the bedroom. So, I go out to the living room and join the fun with them. These kinds of movies lighten our mood and makes us feel good.

Yes, our ways to fun are limitless but, of course, it all depends on one's choice. Thanks to both of you.

Oh yeah, I still watch cartoon movies, even cartoons on TV. I don't think I'll ever grow out of them LOL! But you know, it doesn't mean that when a movie is a cartoon, an adult can't appreciate it. Like the movie Up and Meet the Robinsons, both movies have lovely themes, and they teach wonderful lessons that nobody is too old to learn.

Hi Mymelodake,
Nobody is too old for them... yes, you're right. They have very good lessons which children need to emulate. When the children are younger, I think it is better for parents to be watching together with them so that they can readily explain and answer questions from the children. Watching cartoon movies is a good bonding activity for the whole family.

i dont think watching cartoon has nothing to do with age .....i watch many cartoon movies....infact anime movies are my favourite and i too watch many anime episodes from time to time even read the manga comic books .....there are many things that the real movies cant capture like the perfect emeotion and action but in the anime u can have that .....also watching cartooons doesnt mean that u r childish....there are many cartoons for grown ups .....action anime and many more are only meant for adults ......and they are enjoying too ...
also at the same time there are fun cartoons like shin chan and others which make u laugh

Hi Coolsudan,
Reading your first sentence, I thought you were saying that age matters in watching cartoons. But I now understand that you wanted to tell us that nobody is too old to watch cartoons or animations. Yes, the actions and emotions are vividly depicted on each cartoon character which human actors cannot do. Everyone has a child in us. It is the child in us working when we are watching cartoons and enjoy being with children.

Hi Saphrina,
Very rightly said. It all depends on our choice. It also depends on how we look at things. I personally think that we never are too old to watch cartoon movies or shows. I think young, too and like you, I feel young each day. I have to tell you that my playmates in the badminton court are high school students. I enjoy playing with them because of the fun and laughter that I get out of the games with them.
I can never escape from cartoons and animations. My grown-up children never had outgrown them and I watch with them on some weekends.

Hi Beautyfactor,
I am smiling here. That is exactly what we do in the house, hahaha. My three grown-up children still love to watch them. As DVDs are so cheap here (fake but very good copies which are bought even at 3 for only P100), we have lots of them. We all sit in the living room to watch these cartoon movies. Yes, they also watch some cartoon movies over and over again and sometimes I just have to tell them that it already bores me.

I watch them now because I have a young preschool age child in my house. We mainly watch cartoons on the Disney Channel and Nick Junior, and sometimes we watch Cartoon Network, though it's my least favorite. I've learned to enjoy cartoons again.

Hi DeenaD,
Parents want to enjoy doing things with their children. Parents need to spend more time with them. Watching this kind of films with their children is one way to bond. It is a good way to laugh and giggle together. It is always good to be there for guidance and to answer questions as they watch movies.

I'm proud to say that I'm an adult in my 30s who still enjoys animated films and cartoons I'm an artist, I love to draw and be creative, and watching cartoons is still fun for me, and watching them inspires my creativity.
But even if I wasn't artistically inspired by watching them, I think I would still enjoy watching cartoons because there relaxing and fun, and I appreciate the talent and hard work that goes into making them. watching cartoons dose not make a person any less mature or responsible, and I think a lot of people judge people who still happen to enjoy cartoons, let us remember that it is in fact adults who make cartoons and other animated films, and some of those adults make a lot of money making cartoons for a living.

Hi Apples99,
You have a very good point there. These cartoons and animations are made by adults. These adults love their work although they are mostly targeted to the younger age. The child in them comes into play, too. I personally think acting and feeling like a child contribute a lot in their work. By this way, they can relate to the young audience more.

Well I have a middle aged mother who will watch any animated film, show or slightly funny cartoon. I being 24 stopped watching cartoons at around 11. I just felt it was way too childish, I did begin to take an interest in the animating process. But I hate any childish kind of movie. I guess its because I was hooked in Nick and Disney very young, but that was when they were 90% wholesome. I like the Roko's modern life on nick and alice in wonderland show on disney ect..., I admitt it made me a super wimpy/ clueless person to the real world today :-( but if cartoons help keep kids focused on something better than violent influences than ok :-) Besides no matter what age you are fantasy or fictional indulgences can help you escape the things we would rather not be surrounded by.???

Hi Randy2611,
Welcome to myLot!
You kind of got bored of them because you had started watching them at a young age? That is understandable. We get bored with things that we are overdoing.
For people who watch it because they want to have a respite from work or from the busy daily activities, it should be a welcome treat for them. The fun and enjoyment that they get by watching it, all depends on the person himself and in the way he looks at things. Life is always a matter of choice.

Hi Coco,
That is totally true. The child in us works in some certain occasions. It is good to enjoy those moments. Those moments where we experience the simple, carefree and innocent things that we do as children. Watching cartoons, animated films and funny movies are good stress-busters.

Yes i do
My kids had a lots of cartoon movies, and actually, when i had chances to step on cd store, the first thing i look for is "cartoon movies"(hahaha)
After a days work and some hectic scheds...i found cartoon movies so relaxing rather than watching a heavy drama or action films.
Don't mention the laughters

Hi Jaiho2009,
When my children were small, much of their time we spent on Cartoon Network channel. They enjoyed the fast movements and funny actions of the characters. I guess that is what makes the children interested and glued to the tv set. They always enjoy it. I had to unsubscribe to the cable connection because they were starting to be in school. It was distracting them already.
Now that they are grown-ups, they continue to watch them as they love cartoons and animations.

Hi Ksmita,
(You may call me MMT, for short)
Anything that we enjoy doing makes us happy and relaxed. We are relieved of stress and tiredness as we have fun doing it. Watching cartoons is one way to relieve stress. Most adults get to watch these kind of films to be with their children. But this should not mislead us to the fact that there are adults out there who watch cartoons and animations alone and on their own.. I do when I am overly bored and nothing is left to be done.

For me, I dont think we should put an age limit as to who will or who is entitled to watch cartoons. If you are fond of it, go ahead and watch coz i believe its also educational and at the same time entertaining. I'm turning 35 and i still love watching cartoons specially that my 3 year old nephew is fond of watching them and so does my 1 year old baby so i get the chance to watch with them when I'm babysitting them.

Hi Pinklady227,
Welcome to myLot!
Well, we are all entitled to our own choice. There are always choices in life and depending on our own personal reasons, we favor one over the other. In watching this kind of movies, I personally think that nobody is too old to watch them. There is never a gauge as to who watches or who doesn't.
Parents need to spend more time with their children. Watching cartoons or animations is surely a good way to bond with them. You enjoy the movie but most of all, you have built a good bond or relation with your children.

Hi Mak9839,
Welcome to myLot!
Why not? Nobody is too old to watch this kind of movies. Because of the busy world everyone is in (students or workers), one needs something to divert their attention from. Watching cartoons may only be one of the ways. The ways to fun and entertainment are limitless. It all depends on one's choice of things.

I am already 37 years old. I do not watch cartoon movies anymore. Well there are occasions that I cannot help but watch when my son is watching cartoon movies at home since the television is in front of me. But in my case, I have already passed those times watching cartoon movies. Obviously, I would not spend any money going to the cinema over a cartoon movie.

Hi Jpso,
I respect your opinion. Ways to fun and entertainment for self is limitless. It all depends on one's choice.
My daughter who is already grown-up spent for it. It was her choice and way to entertain herself and myself. And we surely enjoyed the movie! There were lots of other adults in the movie house while we viewed it. Some came with their children but others were alone by themselves.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Umabharti,
Adults enjoy watching cartoons as much as children. I don't think it is too old to watch them. Cartoon network -- my children loved to watch them when they were pre-schoolers. But I had to cancel our subscription for cable service when they were starting to be in school. I was just amazed how children enjoyed watching them --- sometimes not even stopping for a meal. I thought that was not good already and might affect their studies as it had, in a way, affected their mealtime.

I don't think there's an age limit in watching cartoons or any animated films. I'm 23 years old and I still enjoy watching my favorite cartoons and some disney flicks. It brings out the child in us, it helps us understand the young generation more, and a little youth won't hurt. Once, I watched the animated film "Up" in a movie theater, I even saw an old couple, about the age of my grandparents watching the movie. it was so cute! :)
