A jail is suppose to be a place where you are send as punishment for whatever crime you have commited. Now, i think that no telly or any luxuries should be allowed. You are not in a holiday resort. You are there to think about what you did wrong. And i am sure that no criminal actually do that. We just had the wonderfull and exiting news that 4 of our prisons got a bunch of dvd players, and please they got the suround sound systems and a few new flat screens as well. Isn,t that just nice. Wonder what they will get next? New clothes that is hip and fashionable or maybe a new cellphone each or better yet, send them all home as they have all that at home already. Why waste everybodies time and money if you don,t have any sense for justice?

Have you seen the world's most luxurious jail in austria? It makes me want to live there rather than my old apartment. Check it out:

Can you please find out if they have some openings. I am in need of a luxurious holiday and that seems like a good place to go. Book me for two weeks please. Oh, and can you make sure they have a menu for my dinners as well. Let them know i only eat beef. Thank you so kindly. TATA.

Wow I can not believe that! I would have thought that was a club or something! Not a jail! How many numbers do you have to have to post links?

In our prisons they allow the prisoners to purchase tv's and all of that and they provide cable television as well. I guess that is their way to make the inmates happy so they don't cause problems when they have nothing to do with their time. I guess they work as good babysitters for understaffed prisons where the guards are happy just to go home at night. I do not agree if the tax payers have to pay for all of the necessities but if the prisoners or their family's are providing the moneyto purchase the prisoners stuff like this then I really do not see much of a problem with it because it is keeping them occupied.

I do agree they need to think about what they have done. they need to have programs in place to educate those so when they get released back to society they will be better people. But they are not doing that so Tv's are the best option to keep guards safe. It is 1 guard to 100 inmates where I am right now and those are not that good of odds if something were to go down

I have very mixed feelings about this. Your argument about hip new fashions, cell phones, and flat screen TV's is on a very slippery slope. That being said, I'm not for a lot of luxuries for inmates. However, the point of prison isn't just to throw someone in a hole and forget about them. There have to be checks & balances in the system to separate who is capable of being rehabilitated and those beyond redemption. You can't shut someone off from all aspects of society, let them quietly marinate in their wrong doings, and expect society to get a return on the investment. We pay just over $20K/yr in the U.S. per inmate. I would like to see a military approach to the system. Work and education is rehabilitation. Maybe set a curriculum. So many hours of education must be accomplished in order to be released. By the end of a sentence the inmate must have at least a G.E.D. Make vocational education available. Everyone has a job. That job should be menial. As inmates progress through the education they get trained for better jobs. If Inmate X is learning how to be an electrician then perhaps they begin their journeyman in prison. All the vocations perform repair & maintenance within the prison system. Capital crimes are another conversation. "Lifers" need to be dealt with differently. This is a hot topic we could write a book about. I believe that entertainment in general should be communal. I think everyday of prison should be bootcamp. Up before dawn for P.T., chow, work, classes, lights out. Everything is organized. There is no yard time. Everything is a group activity. Races are deliberately intermingled to avoid gang activity. Maybe by the time some of these guys get out they can contribute to society. Hard working, focused "soldiers." If it's done correctly the $20K will be offset by the labor inmates put in to sustain the prison system.

yeah friend you are absolutely right, i agree with you that if someone is being sent to jail he should be guilty of himself rather than be proudy. otherwise there will be no use of such kind of punishments and public would be able to live a safe life as every boy will commit such crimes .
