Hi my MYLOT friends! I was wondering about the situation, where you PC/laptop has broke down and you can not work with it! what will you do, if that happens on Friday evening, and there is no service working during the weekend? Are you addicted to the computer? I am not

yeah, a nice activity while the PC is down. i also will meet my friends, go to some local cafe with them, I don't go to church that often, but actually I can go to a trip with my friends too, there are so many things to do, except sitting in front of the PC

I would let out a blood curdling scream first of all. I would think about all of the stuff I could get done, but it is not able to because the computer broke down. Then I would be completely bored for a bit before I find something to do. Hopefully the weekend would go quickly and Monday would come. However, I have experienced this before and time goes annoyingly slow when I am not on the computer. I just hope it was during a time where I did not need it all that much. Still it would be rather boring.

Yeah, you are right. if you are addicted to the computers and your broke down, I think the weekend will not go so quickly By the way, haven't you tried doing something else like watching Tv or reading some newspaper, or just go out with some friends? Because if that happens to me, I will not worry about it at all, because I have a lot of books to read and I love to read

Hi Phoenix! I have two at home and if one breaks down I use the other one. In fact the main one got a virus just before Christmas and I haven't had it fixed yet. I keep forgetting to contact the doctor. If this one breaks down too then I would be on again once I get to work Next month I am getting a laptop too so from then onwards I hope I willnot be faced with that problem. You are not addicted?

I can live without mine too... but I'd rather not have to
15 Feb 10
hi! you are one business lady is I see, when you have two PC and wait for a laptop then you must call the "doctor" quickly, because it can happen at any time, and you must be prepared. And YES, I am really not addicted to the computer. I can live without it too, but without my books I can't

I freaked out! It's my primary source of contact and income. My ministry is a web-based service and so I go nuts without the internet! I recently had trouble with a virus and was off line for several days trying to resolve the issue! It's like major withdrawals!

Well for me, it is a bit of a different situation. Oh and before I continue - I have 2 older desktops and my Sony Vaio laptop - so I do have ample backup. The laptop doesn't get used a lot. I mainly use it for when I take a trip, maybe once or twice a year. For me, I guess I am addicted, but for a different reason. I am considered kegally blind, and the only place that I can enjoy reading is here on the net - - as well as having inter-action with others. It is my # 1 way to achieve contact with folks and make new friends. I love my message boards and just doing a lot of googling varied subjects (like recipes, etc.) My dear husband passed away last April 30th, and I am now at my computer far more than I was. Sometimes if I wake up in the middle of the night or real early in the a.m., and can't sleep, of course I get online, with my cup of coffee, and check emails, posting boards, or maybe read the news, or whatever I may be interested in at the moment. MyLot has been such a blessing to me, and has filled a LOT of lonely, empty hours of reading and posting for me. Ijust thank God for helping me find it - don't even remember how I did find it. One last thing - there are places on the net that have a "subscription" to fix/repair your computer, if you're not concerned about them having access to do it. I did one for awhile and it was very helpful with my concition, but they got way too expensive, and refused to cover both my desk top AND my laptop - - so I cancelled my subscription. But I did contact my computer repair guru here, and ask him to consider doing this for me, and letting me know what the cost would be, and Id' send him a check. We do have a trusting relationship, or I probably would do that. 'nuff said and I'm outta here. C. C.
15 Feb 10
well, if it is your primary source of contact and income, then I guess you must be mad about it, when such thing happens, but you will not get poorer, if you don't have a PC for the weekend just call some friend or relative and go for a walk with him/her/them, and you will see you feel better!
16 Feb 10
thanks for the nice and comprehensive answer ClassyCat! You really need to this, because it is your door to the world and not only to the real one, but also for many others imaginary worlds, just as for me my books are! I am sorry about your husband, it is really terrible what happens to you, because the lost of a beloved person is something very hard to handle with it and I can only hope, that you are OK now. Be HAPPY and keep make the people around you HAPPY too Have a shiny day

Actually i hated computers, as my other half plays world of warcraft each day. I normally read a book or two and one day he bought me this laptop. You should have seen me the first time on the net, it was hell, but then i found mylot and here i am. Enjoying it every single day. As for my friends, we only see each other on weekends, as they have a farm about 60km from us. But i have my other friends, right here. TATA.
15 Feb 10
hmmm, interesting. you are the first woman, that I hear playing WOW, I have played it years ago, but wasn't good enough and I quit it. A friend of mine plays it every day and he is really very good. Do you have a farm too? you were from SAR( South African Republic), right?

honestly even i can live without internet but it will so difficult because if i'm not online for a weekend, i cant get money from internet, and my blog PR will decrease. so, how about you? you can live without internet??
16 Feb 10
hi! yes, i can live without it, because I have many other things to do, like studying or my favorite activity- reading books. I try to earn some extra online money to pay a part of my study fees, but i am not so addicted to it, as many others
15 Feb 10
yeah, you can't update mylot from your mobile, but can't you live without internet just for one weekend? is it really so important to you? don't you like to do something else, than just sitting in front of you PC/laptop and surfing or doing something else?

Well, I have had problems with internet connectivity in the past and it's awful, once you're addicted to using the internet every day. But we complained to the company, and they took their time. In the end, I made it through those "dark days", and I found other things to do with my time. However, I know a lot of people depend on having a reliable internet connection for their jobs, and I guess they would have to go to someone else's house or else the public library to get their work done.

yeah, that is what i am talking about There are so many other things to do, except the sitting in front of the PC/laptop. And yes, there are also people, who earn their primary amount using the computer, and it is really necessary to them What do you like to do, when your PC breaks down?

I go cold turkey, I hate it, not having the computer or indeed the internet is like losing a right arm. Sometimes when the internet is sluggish or it goes down I lose my patience very quickly, I am addicted I am ashamed to say, mainly because it's my major link to the outside world and making money. The weekends are the hardest for me as I spend most weekends at home apart from going to the gym but I can't spend all day at the gym LOL! But I am reduced to a sorry state if the internet goes down. I rely too heavily on it, which is not a good thing I guess.
20 Feb 10
yeah, it is really not good spending so much of your time on the computer, becaues there are so many interesting things to do, beside the PC like meeting friends, playing with them- i like play football or doing something else, which is healthy like sport for example!

I guess I walk, read, watch tv, go out, take a drive, go to the mall, go to the casino, go to the movies... Go to Best Buy to get it fixed? I can think of something to do, but I will miss it...

yeah, maybe you all will miss it, except me, because it is really not so important part of my daily round. I will do the same things like you if mine goes down and I think i will not be sad even for a minute about that, what happened to my computer, because I really know how to spend my time doing interesting and funny things

I have only one PC, so if there is anything wrong happened, I have no option. I will contact the servicer asap. Great topic, have a great day.

PFt I'm addicted to the internet. I literally cannot do anything until I get my computer fixed if there's something wrong with it. I would probably go nuts and ask my sister to call some of her techy friends over to fix it, considering one of the built my computer hahah.

This has happened to me and it really stinks. Luckily when my husband was home from work I could use his lap top for an hour or so in the evening when that happened. I did actually go the library once to use their computers so that I could get on line. It is torture not being able to be online. We rented a cabin for our vacation this past year we thought that the cabins would be internect accesable but it turned out you could only get internet if you went to the rental offive. So we had to go nearly a week without internet access. It really stunk, but we were on vacation so there was plenty to do.

Hi! Well, I think you are addicted to the PC's and the internet because when you go no vacation and you searched for internet cabins, that means you can't really live without it And do you always use internet when you go to some trip with your husband or family?

16 Feb 10
yeah mylot is a good reason to want your PC fixed faster as possible, but as I told if my goes down I have many other things to do, which by the way I am doing every day, because I don't think sitting on the PC with hours during the whole day is so right!

We had a problem that when a pc went down in the house there was not another one to use,so now we have always got one that we can use no matter what as we all have one each plus a spare one aswell. It was absolutly horrid when there was not to use as we have got soo used to having one and then not having one for a few days was awful as there was nothing todo and nothing on the tv to watch either.

then you must change you cable TV supplier, if there is nothing interesting on the Tv, because there are always some interesting channels, which you can watch, even when you have something more important to do! You can also go out with some friends of yours or your family

If one of my computers would break , I would keep troubleshooting . If it is a hardware problem , I would take the service manual and a multimeter and inspect . If I run out of solutions I disassemble every component and put them back together . I got out of trouble several times using these methods . On the other hand, if it's a software problem and I don't mind loosing some data I would quickly reinstall my OSes . But I never get software problems cause I run Linux .
16 Feb 10
yeah, linux is a very good solution of the software and virus problems for many PC users, because as I discussed with some member of mylot several days ago, there are really less viruses for linux and also this OS gives less error than the windows OS's. I have never used it on my computer, but some of my friends are using it
