I come from non English country, my first language is not english. I have learned English since primary school till university. untill now I still learn english. according to the reason above I usually make mistake or misspelling when I write something in English. I just wondering why you can do some misspelling christina, you are come from english country and your first language is english. why can be like that?

My first language is indonesian, I come from Indonesia. In my language there is not differences between writing and spelling. for example word "eat" in English is different between writing and spelling. But In my language there is no differences, the word 'eat' in my language is 'makan'. We write it 'makan' and we spell it 'makan'. I think you are in hurry in typing and writing something, so you misspell some word. just relax and don't be hurry...

I agree that is a main problem but I do have to sounds things out to spell them some times. I also misspell a lot of them just by accident too. I need to work on it a little more so that I can expand my vocabulary and spelling of it. What is some other words in Indonesian? How does Indonesia differ from the states?

I have no clue I just am not a good speller. I have never been, it is something I guess I never too the time to correct and now it haunts me. I also have bad grammar. I hated English class in school so I just didn't do it and when I did I didn't do it well. What is you native language? You don't make spelling errors in that language? Everyone makes spelling mistakes sometimes. Most of the time it can be a typing error other times its I just wrote in a hurry.

i'm not trying to boast or show off here... but honestly, i feel that i am quite a good speller and i hardly spell any word wrongly... the only thing that make me confused sometimes is there seems to be a difference in the spelling of some words based on the American version or English (UK) version... for example, color vs colour, etc... that's all... take care and have a nice day...

i just come across another two: favourite vs favorite and favour vs favor... i am always being taught to use the UK version of english (colour, favourite, favour, etc)... but i think the speller checker in microsoft word and mylot use the US version of english... (i might be wrong)... take care and have a nice day...

Hahaha! That sounds so familiar! Oh I can spell but my fingers don't seem to be co-ordiated with the resy of me and they insist on typing things the wrong wat round. I have two mistakes that I make regularly here on the Lot. One is becuase instead of because and the other is dicsussions instead of discussions Every single time that I post something I try and check to see if these words are typed correctly but some escape and remain there for one and all to see

Spelling isn't always my best subject. In fact for quite a while I would continously misspell the same word over and over again because I would be too lazy to think of the English rules when writing such as with words like believe. Until recently I kept misspelling neighbor as well. Words I don't use very often, and even some common words I should know i tend to misspell. Such as misspell obviously. Okay I cheeted I fixed it. And yes English is my first language. But, people who know me say I have the perfect excuse I'm blind and was never taught how nor am I able to see certain words properally. This is true. Yet with continuous effort I keep trying to get through it. The more complex words tend to give me the most problem though.

Wow that is cool. I am a little curious though if you are blind how can you see my response? I always am intrigued to know how you are able to these things.. That is so cool that you know how to do this and have learned to adapt without being able to see. Is it a lot harder to do things being blind? Is it hard to learn braile?

Well a few years ago windows and Freedom sincitific got togeather and created screan-reading technology. It allows people like me to hear what you normally see. It's not perfect, but it gets the job done. I'm able to interact on the computer just like you do. I use two hands to type and I was taught to type "correctly". Being blind can be difficult sometimes, but when that's all you've ever known, then its not as difficult. In fact if my site were fully restored I wouldn't know how to survive because I've spent an entire lifetime blind. Learning braille is only as hard as how you're exposed to it. The younger you are the quicker it is to pick up. For me it was extreamly difficult. For a number of years when I was growing up, it was thought I had partical sight, and therefore when I went to school was taught print when I should have been learning braille. What i know about braille, I self-taught myself. Otherwise I'd probably not know as much as I know now nor would have I been able to complete high school. Which I barely did. But, that school wasn't the best. But, because it existed in my home town my parents were forced to send me there. Doing things blind isn't that much harder then doing things sighted. In fact I have an advantage over my partner, George, when we lose power during the night. Since I can navigate our apartment in the dark as easily as i can during the day, then I'm able to do things much quicker and faster. Where as George is always grabbing for flashlights to put some light in the room. If you have any more questions I'm always happy to answer them.

That is neat so it like a text to speech type thing? Or something else. I guess I just never imagined a person using a computer that was blind. I am really intrigued. I think that is just awesome that technology helps you do every day things and helps you continue life as if you would if you wasn't blind. No one believed you was blind in school? Wow that is harsh. Wasn't there test and things they could have done to prove you was and needed help getting along? So you can write because you was taught thinking you was not blind?

Hi, christinawise87. You are not alone in this at all. I have misspelled some words before. They were success, achieve, receive, probably, definitely and jeporady... I still am spelling the last word incorrectly too. When I am typing fast, I will misspell the words incorrectly. This happens to me as well too. Once I see the red line underlined on at the post then I will switch the letters around. Then when it is not red then I know that I spell it correctly. I try to pronounce every letter one by one so that, I will know that I am spelling it correctly.

That is good to know that I am not the only one. I thought maybe I was making a semi fool out of myself trying to sound out the words I have problems with. I know my daughter is in kindergarten and starting to learn how to read words and sound so she stretches sounds out to spell them. I thought it was just me thanks for helping me to know I am not the only one. I am glad that I can confide in my mylot friends and find out that it isn't something that I should be ashamed of.

I have heard of those kinds like the one that is a forward that says if you can read this copy and paste it in your status because people really only read the first letter of words or something like that. I didn't know that but yeah I read it then went back and it was spell totally wrong. I am an amazing reader I can read from one letter!!!! I also misspell things because I am in a hurry or tired. I have done it a lot and forget about it.
