I can remember as far back as the 50's, when my mom would dress me in dungarees. (That's what they called jeans back then.)
Dress pants were only worn when I was "going out" to somewhere special, like church or dinner invitations. Jeans were worn for everyday use.
When bell-bottoms were the rage in the 60's, I couldn't get enough of them, and would seek to find the widest pair, or the most unusual pattern. I actually had a couple of pairs that looked exactly like wood grain, and one pair that bore the U.S. stars and stripes. They were my favorite. I used to get ribbed (no pun intended) so much whenever I wore my "wooden pants", as my friends would call them, that I stopped wearing them altogether.
Cotton denim has been around for years, and were once not to be considered as "fashionable" by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, quite the opposite.
Farmers we were told, were the only persons who really needed to wear them...and they came with bibs and shoulder straps!
Today jeans are as fashionable as ever, come in various colors, patterns, and price ranges. Even bell-bottoms are making a comeback.
I do have a number of dress slacks, but prefer to wear my rugged old jeans...and I'll even go as far as saying that I'll purposely buy a new pair to "dress-up" in, so that I have something to wear for those "special" occasions. Weird huh?
How about you?
Are you a jean fanatic like I am, or do you prefer wearing something other?

Hey, all us "cats" look cool in black...
...or purple.
Believe it or not, I did have a pair of light purple jeans, and basically wore them out, I liked them so much.

Aah flower power.
Painted faces.
Peace man.
Your parents must have freaked!
Mine were pretty cool, and just figured that I was being my own particular self...goofy as usual...and really paid no attention as to what I was wearing during those hippie days. In fact, sometimes my mom would see something stylish of the time, and would encourage me to wear it. She was into the "scene", more than me! (But never wore jeans herself.)
I was never one to slash my jeans, cut them, or fray them in any way.
I figured that they would eventually do that one their own, since the bottoms scraped the ground at the back of my heels. My legs are short and it was very hard trying to find a pair in a length that would fit me, so I had to take what was available. I had to suffer with jeans that way...not that much has changed over the years...my legs are still the same length. However, thanks to modern technology (and a love for short people) I can now purchase jeans in the proper length. It was either that, or I'd have to wear a pair of elevator socks!

Hi, commanderxo, you're good at jeans' knowledge.
I like jeans (except tight one) now. It can fit many kinds of clothers.
But it's interesting that when I was child, people who were in jeans were thought bad people, like hooligans. So I didn't have jeans until entering middle school.
Then, I like it more and more, I find it's easy to fit, and comfortable, anyway, it's great!
Now except some formal situation, I'm always in jeans!

You're right about that.
I can remember way back in the early '60s, that many of my neighbors used to think I was a "hood", or belonged to a gang, just because I wore what we used to call "stove-pipe" jeans back then. They were really tight in the leg, and made it easier to wear with pointed black "Beatle-boots". These type of jeans were also very popular during the malt-shop '50s days, and went really well with a black leather jacket.
This is where I think my neighbors got the idea from...that I was a "left-over" biker hooligan, from the '50s.
Me?
I just liked the cut, the feel, and the fit of them.

Oh flashback again......the "stove-pipe" jeans. We had to shove the boot inside the jean leg, then push your legs inside the jeans and into the boots. Yeah I remember those......we'd put them on while they were still wet and we'd have to lay down on the bed to tie them too.......awwww...miss those days.
Apparently they're bringing back the "straight-leg" jeans...thats what they call them now!!

I must admit that jeans are the most flexible to wear because you can pair them with so many different kinds of tops and shoes depending on the look you're going for. When it comes to comfort though, I'd rather wear something cooler to the skin, specially in this tropical weather we have. If I can wear skirts more often, I would. Casual though.

They make a lot of nice casual denim skirts and dresses too, lighter in their fabric and much cooler against the skin.
You may want to check those out?

I thought jeans were now "dressed" pants??? lol.
Yeah I remember my mom telling me I couldnt wear my jeans to go out with her. Yes Ive also been told that only farmers wore them. Geez!!
I used to have a special pair of jeans. It was stinking of patchouli, very tight with hand made designs of flowers and peace signs lol. I loved those jeans, they were very soft.
I wear lots of different pairs of jeans now. I still dont own a pair of dress-up pants. Wasnt my style back then and still isnt.
Peace!!

I like dresses but I LOVE jeans, I think they are the best invention in the world, and with this cold weathers there is not way that I would wear a dress or those dressy pants. The fabric is just too thin. Now the jeans are really fashionable, they can be very dressy, so I really like them, you can go to a dinner or even upscale parties wearing jeans, I think they are here to stay. I actually love them.

...you've got that right.
Jeans can look mighty dressy, especially with some of the amazing styles and patterns they're coming out with these days.
I've actually seen a whole men's dress suit made out of denim, and I've got to say, it even looked good enough to wear to an upscale party.

Yes.
It seems that is what most of the responses say as well.
It all depends on where one is going; but it looks as if jeans are here to stay, and probably will be long after I'm old and gray, or blue, or beige, or tan, or purple, or...........

I definitely stick to jeans as much as possible. I find they both look better and feel better on me. I think dress pants are too dressy for my personality. Even slacks feel too...formal...for my tastes most of the time. But jeans. They are good for most normal occasions, and I will wear them whenever I can.

I'll bet the person who ever came up with the idea of wearing denim, never had any clue as to how far the idea might catch on. Just think of how rich they would be today. They'd be the Bill Gates of denim.

I think you're right.
Jeans to me are for everyday use, and slacks should be for dressing up on special occasions, etc.
This seems to be the general consensus.
Happy myLotting to you too.

You're very lucky in that you're able to wear your husband's jeans, as long as he's got something else on.
Not too many women suit men's jeans due to the cut of the hips, and still look good in them.

If you wore some really fancy looking jeans...say in black without any fancy stitching or pattern, do you think you could get away with wearing them at work?
You know, some jeans come in a lighter fabric, and look quite dressy.

Dear John
I don't like jeans, particularly the tight fitting ones, when we were in college too tight fitting pants and shirts were in faishion, then came the 'bell-bottoms', wear this and move, the street gets sweeped of all dusts and dirts.
I wear full pant and half sleeve shirts normally, they are not too lose or tight
while in home i waer 'lungi' of pure cotton, white and white loose shirt of cotton..
Thanks for sharing
Cheers.
God bless you, have a nice day ahead.

I have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of tight fitting jeans, but I do have a couple of pairs. Call me old fashioned, but I do like bell bottoms.
You are right though about how comfortable your fashions are.
The one I regret I have is that I cannot find another Jawaharlal Nehru type of suit, like the one I used to wear back in the 60's. It was gold colored, extremely comfortable, and beautifully tailored. I would give anything to have another one like that. For some reason, they don't make that style anymore. But I do have a very nice white embroidered cotton shirt with stud buttons, that I enjoy wearing during the hot summer months.

I'm a jeans girl myself. Through and through.
I remember when I worked in an office all day. I couldn't wait to get home, strip all those bloody layers off and get comfy in my good ole jeans.
My era was the 70's where the skin tight jeans were all the craze. But I wear more of a relaxed fit now that I am older. I don't go for the hip huggers, I think they look funny, like they are going to fall off.
And yeah, my hubby, a redneck, wears a relatively new (read: unstained) pair of jeans to go 'out'.

Some of those hip-huggers DO look like they're going to fall off.
...makes me wonder what some parents think of their teen daughters when they see them in them...what with their belly-buttons showing, and all...
Oops, guess I'm showing my age?
Aah, but we were kids too once, and everything finds it's way back around.
...funny thing though...some kids these days think that these types of jeans, are something new!
...makes me laugh...
hehehe

I am more comfortable wearing jeans or khakis too. I don't much like to wear slacks because they make my skin all itchy and I find myself scratching it all day. I see many people go shopping or doing recreation activities in their jeans, shorts or sweat outfit. I think it just makes the people more comfortable that way.

I like wearing jeans or slacks or pants as they are comfortable, but I love wearing skirts, if given a choice. I wear jeans or pants most of the time as I am afraid to be bitten by mosquitoes that caused dengue. In our country, it is rampant, so we have to be careful. So wearing jeans for health purposes is most important for health is wealth.

Being from the Philippines, I would imagine so.
Mind you, we too here in Canada DO suffer from mosquitoes and black flys in the very hot summer months...especially in the northern country areas.
A very interesting post, and I'm glad you mentioned it.
Not too many would think of wearing jeans for this reason.
Keep on myLotting friend.

Whell years ago I felt dresses were more comfortable to wear because you don't have anything buttoned to your waist or any fabric tight to your legs. You also feel fresher - more ventilation . Now I only wear them occassionally because pants are more comfortable when you have small children because of all the bending down, carry stuff you have to do.

i will also prefer to wear jeans than a pant . i think that wearing a jean gives me a lot of comfortablity and i always used to feel free when i am wearing a jean . i think i will be more formal when i wear a pant . there is a dress code in my college and we should not wear jeans but i used to wear a only jeans and not any other thing . the other thing i fell comfortable wearing a jean is that i dont need to worry a lot about the dirts .

Yeah, you can wear dirty old jeans, and somehow...
...they still look good!
Some colleges ARE rather strict on their formal code of dress, but I think that's a good thing. It teaches one how to prepare for the working world, in that it seems more professional when you see someone all dressed up...not to mention...it's a lot easier when seeking a job opportunity.
