Are you into health supplements?

I do realize that every other (older) person i know, is taking some form of health supplement. Be it Vitamin C or Coenzyme or whatever. Knowing that the world is becoming a greying population and many want to attain the luxury of youth and stuff, the health industry is an upcoming industry. So i'm curious to know how many of you are into supplements? How many of you actually take supplements. Personally, i DO take vitamin C and coenzyme because my mum buys them and stocks them up for herself. But since it's in the fridge, i just take them. But on an irregular basis.

I think it's important to take supplements, especially a multi vitamin. Most people don't get enough healthy food to meet their body's needs. I also take calcium, alpha lipoic acid, and vitamin D. The calcium because I'm getting older, the ALA because I read a study that it's used in Germany to help control blood sugar levels which is an issue for me, and I take the vitamin D in the winter because I live in the north where we have short days.

why has vitamin D help with shorter days? please explain to me...

Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium and phosphorus and sunlight is a significant source of vitamin D. I take it in the winter because we have such short days and we don't get outside much because of the cold. You can also get it from foods like fish, eggs and milk.

I am not really into health supplements, not the type of person that tries every kind of supplement from A-Z. It is because I have read that relying on supplements tend to bring more harm than protection. The only supplement I'm having is fish oil capsules, and once in a while vitamin C tablets when I've no time to eat fruits. I do not stock my fish oil and always check on the expiry date on the packaging. Personally I believe taking food high in antioxidants is better than supplements.

i do agree that having it natural is the best. but sometimes the nutrients in our food gets lost. so we don't actually get 100% of it all.

I'm a health buff myself and I am sure that we cannot obtain to get the right nutrition on daily intakes of food we eat because every time we cook it even if it is fresh, it deteriorates so that is why the Wellness Industry is booming. A lot of companies started to believe on the importance of natural food supplements or herbal medicines. I personally would suggest Tiens products because they really are tested safe and effective. Anyway back to the topic, Food supplements are there to compensate the things we do loss. What I do like is the Spirulina, High Calcium Protein 1, Zinc, Cordyceps, Radiance Beauty Capsule, Beneficial,Chitosan and so much more. These completes my daily nutrition on combating free radicals, pollutants, carcinogens and the body imbalances that our body has. Tiens is TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) combined with Modern Biotechnology that aids us to achieve a healthy lifestyle and longer period to live (of course this is still God's hand). All food supplements are best if taken with warm water specially if they are herbal. Just a word of advice on other supplements that are not herbal, because synthetic medicines can harm our liver and kidneys.

Haha, I'm one of those members of the greying population. And yes, I do take supplements, but only on the order of my Dr. He has me taking high supplemental doses of vitamin D and calcium. Plus he's having me take a daily vitamin with iron. He doesn't have me taking them for youthful purposes, just because I'm deficient in them. I don't take any other type of supplement. I have a hunch that a lot of us, as we're aging, would be found deficient in one vitamin or another because body needs change as we age. I was just listening to Dr Oz on tv this morning. They did a vitamin D test on the audience and 70+ percent of them had vitamin D deficiencies! That's a really high number! I think supplements are often necessary, but that it should be discussed with the Dr to see if it's needed, and also to see if it's going to agree with other medications we might be on.

you're right... it's always important to check if there is a clash with the other medications. Some supplements thin the blood which is not so good for people with high blood pressure.

I am not a fan of extra suppliment's to be honest, if people live a healthy life style and eat well there is no need for extra vitamins etc etc also the extra suppliments are massively over priced when you can just have fruit and veg and abalanced diet and get all the vitamins and minerals that the body needs so not a huge fan and don't think people need them personally unless they live an unhealthy life style and if thats the case extra suppliments are not really going to help massively.

I take a few supplements. A daily vitamin, omega-3, otherwise I rely on natural adjuncts to my diet. Green tea with cinnamon & raw honey, ginger root, valerian root, you get the picture. I'm very holistic. I grow most of my favorites in-house. I also maintain a healthy diet. Supplements are just that. If you don't get it in your normal diet it needs to be added. Most supplements are taken by people that don't really need them. That can be very dangerous. Please do the homework to find out if you really need it. If you do, how much? Everything is toxic in too high a dosage. A healthy diet, and a daily vitamin should be sufficient for most people.

I work out so I take different kinds of health supplement. I take creatine and amino acid. Mostly for muscle repair and good protein absorption. For ordinary days, I do take vit c and e. Vit C to avoid sickness and to strengthen my immune system. Vit E for anti-oxidant or anti-aging. Good cell renewal. There are a lot of multi-vitamins in the market which has both. If you're taking glutha it would be best to stack it up with vit c. Gluta not only whitens your skin but is good for the liver. In my case, I would want to try gluta since my liver takes a lot of stress from those supplements.

nope i dont take any vitamins and any kind of tablets or capsule at the moment, i prefer getting my vitamins on my food rather than taking food supplements. i just enjoy eating healthy foods, and i think i have just about the right amount of nutrients from the food i eat
