I was going to the store this morning after I dropped my daughter off at school. I was wearing my faithful track pants with a hole in the knee. It is a memorable hole because it is there from the time a glass shelf fell on my knee causing me to have stiches for the first time. I am not particularly proud of that fact but I love my track pants! My husband was coming in as I was walking out of the door and he took one look at me and said, “Do you think that you could get another year out of those pants?” Well I was insulted and his sarcasm was most unbecoming! As I said I love my track pants…
Do you have an item of clothing that you cannot let go of? I think most of us do...Surely...I love my track pants...

There is nothing like a favourite pair of jeans! I remember having to throw a pair out last year because they were badly worn out and the zipper had broken and wasn't worth fixing. I swear it broke my heart, I bought a new pair and they are just not the same! Thanks Jen, glad you relate!

I do have a T-shirt with a Rocky Balboa silhouette on the front, doing a pose from the film
I cannot remember when or even where I got the shirt from, and it is starting to show it's age, but I just cannot get rid of it, and still wear it (indoors only, though).

I think T-shirts like that can be excused! It's the same with concert T-shirts, they are more than an item of clothing and they represent so much more. There are a lot of memories with those kind of T-shirts. I can see why you would want to hold on to it, it is probably impossible to get another one the same! Thanks for responding MrKennedy!

I have this one shirt in a beautiful Native American design and bright coloring...it's really worse for wear as it has holes in in yet I refuse to throw it out. I don't wear it outside since it is so tacky looking but will wear in at home...just can't give it up

Oh btw...you should tell your hubby that pants with holes are very fashionable...people pay hundreds of dollars for jeans that have a designer name to them and are full of holes

That is very true! It is certainly a different look. I don't go out with my holey track pants except to the local shop and school which is across the road from the house. I've noticed a lot of mums at the school wear old favourites too unless they're coming from work. It's good to hear from you Pye, thanks for stopping by, you enjoy your fave shirt...

Oh goodness me! I don't know where to start! I have a track suit that is falling apart. I love it! I even bought another one exactly the same intending to replace it but the newer one never seems to get that 'worn in' feel to it so I still keep using the older one. I have patched it and redone the seams and it really should getthe boot - but I can'! It has become part of me and I am always in it indoors.
I have a pair of cotton trousers with a flower print on them that are decades old. They are faded but I adore them. My son was looking through some old photos when he was here recently and he noticed that I am wearing them in many of the photos taken through the years. That's proof enough too!

Uhm what is a 'shell suit?
Is that what I would call a swimsuit? Sounds like something youwould wear on a beach - or a fancy dress party?
I'm trying to catch up Paola! I am way behind with everything and I loved this topic so it's me who thanks you for starting it

It's hard to let go isn't? I have done the same thing with jeans, bought another similar pair but they just won't do! I thought I was the only one who keeps some clothes for years and years! Some of the things in my wardrobe are really old, I have a top that is almost 20 years old and yes I have been seen wearing these days! Thanks for dropping in Diana, appreciate the response!

I have some favorite tee shirts that I've had for a long time, that are faded and losing their shape, but I still wear them from time to time because I like them. I also have an old pair of jeans that I should have gotten rid of a long time ago but I don't.

So nice to know that I am not alone! I feel comfortable in my old pants and because I work from home I am so used to comfort that I can't be bothered dressing up most of the time! I'll have to tell my husband to take me somewhere nice if he wants to see me looking better! Thanks for responding spalladino!

Well that's the point, if you love them and you are the one wearing them, it should not bother anyone else! I love comfort and you can't beat some old things for comfort. I like the fact that you don't have to be careful with old clothes, anything goes...Thanks for being here Hujing

Personally I think everyone has an article of clothing that they really Love to wear even if they are not looking the Best. For me I used to have a Red skirt that was actually one of my favorites. The elastic on it was all worn out to where I had to almost tie it to keep the skirt on. The pockets had holes in them even. But it was my favorite skirt. I did finally have to throw it away when the sides of the skirt started ripping out as well. But if you enjoy those pair of pants enjoy wearing them and don't worry about others.

I agree, thank you KrauseHome! Those track pants have long gone now but I parted with them when I was ready and I admit they did become unwearable! I now have a pair of three quarter jeans I love and fortunately they are still in great condition! Thanks for responding my friend!

I have a pair of jeans that I feel the same way about. I know that they should be thrown away, but I really like them. I usually only wear them around here on the farm so that I can get them dirty and it doesn't matter. I would not wear them out in public to the store or anything. I would just tell your husband that you like them and that you are comfortable in them.

They are long gone since I wrote the discussion and I've moved on to a favourite pair of jeans which are faded a lot but not quite as bad as the old track pants. agree that one should feel free to wear old favourites. Thanks for responding carolscash I appreciate it!

Hi paula,
I can understand your feelings dear as many often I am going through the same. If we think about from their side, they are also right; they want their best half in perfect dress style. But these thoughts are coming as second only and the first thought must be, wife doesn’t have any liberty to choose their own dress.. .. I love one of my particular salwar but now I will avoid the same when going out with my hubby..

Hi Sreekala, I wouldn't wear my holey pants if my husband was taking me out, they are for around the house, school pick up and drop offs and the local delicatessen; that is why I don't see a problem with my favourite track pants...I know they have a limited existence, I'm just not ready to part with them just yet! Thanks for your response, I appreciate it!

Hello Paula. This is a good discussion. I remember one time when I did not want to let go my favorite pair of shorts. My favorite pairs of Bermuda, two of them. Or what they call khakis. They are worn out and looked washed out but I really love wearing them much, at home. So that's something that I cannot let go of easily.

I can sure relate. I don't think it is a problem especially if you are wearing them at home; if you can't be comfortable in your own house where can you be? My track pants are nearing the end of their life, I know but for now they are still on! Thanks zed, appreciate it!

hi paula27661 oh yes its a dark blue denim skirt that fits me nicely but has a pattern of small white holes in the left bottom side of the skirt/ they actually look like little white daisies so since people seem to think this is really there on purpose I keep on wearing my skirt, its comfortable and has gotten compliments, since they do not really look closely or they would see the flowers are actually little holes in the cloth that has frayed white fringes so they look sort of embroidered. he he he.

Now that has just given me an idea!
I have a denim jacket that has a hole caused though a burn. It's is on the left side towards the top. A daisy embroidered around the edges would look perfect!

How handy is that? Fancy being complimented on the little holes at the bottom of your skirt! I love it! Maybe I could say that my track pants came with a hole, you know new fashion trend...Okay, maybe not... You keep wearing your favourite skirt, I am sure you look great in it! Thanks for stopping by Hatley!

Hi. paula27661. I am sorry about your husband's comment to you. I have two pair of cotton capris that I just can't seem to throw away. When I was throwing many clothing items away last year, I just could not bring myself to throw these capri pants away for anything. They are so comfortable to wear. I bought them in 2003 or 2004. And they still fit me. They are in the medium sized sizing, I think. They are so comfortable!

Hello dear.
Well i think i have both clothes and snickers included here. I have a pair of snickers that i bought 4 or 5 years ago, but they are the most comfy of the last 3 pairs i bought and even if the aren't looking very good right now after so much time, sometimes i still prefer taking them on rather then the latest pair - i should get a new pair, and good one but i always seam to have something else to do then look for new shoes.
As for clothes, i have a few t-shirt that i wear in the house only, they have a few holes, and my mother really wants to throw them away, but they are the soft kind of cotton that you would want to wear :)

Alot of my jeans have holes in 'em, and my shoes always eventually fall to shreds...and I keep 'em and wear 'em until it's impossible to repair them or wear them anymore...and even then, if I can I try to make them into something else. A pillow for my dog's bed. Pillowcases for MY bed. Etc.
I just feel that it's wasteful to just simply throw out my faithful friends that served me so well over the years.

I agree and you have given me an idea to make use of my track pants even of they become a cat blanket or something, it is a shame to waste old faithfuls you are quite right; that way I will feel better about parting with them when the time comes..Thanks for a great response xParanoiax!

I've had clothes that I couldn't part from and tend to wear them till they can't be worn anymore. I had this white shirt that was really comfortable and wore it till it had so many holes in it that even at home it was inappropriate unless I wanted attention from hubby!

That's funny! I don't think I would get the attention I'd want! (LOL) It does get to the stage when some things have to go and it is difficult to say goodbye but it must be done (LOL)! My track pants don't have long, I know so I will enjoy them while they are still in one piece, sort of...Thanks cats!

My favorite jeans are on their way out and JC Penney doesn't carry them any more, but I found some online. Seems like everything's available on the internet. Maybe you can find some track pants just like your favorite ones when you are ready to let them go...

I already have and I'm sure I will be able to say goodbye to the old ones soon...You are right just about everything is available online and if you do your research you can get really good bargains. My husband got a pair of motorcycle boots for a third of the price they cost in the shops! Thanks for stopping by Dawn!

As long as he doesn't get upset. He obviously trusts your judgement! I am the one on laundry duty which explains while my track pants are still alive and well, sort of...They won't last too much longer but until I'm ready to ditch I'll hang to them! Thanks pat!
