Do you turn off your cell phone?

Hi there! Do you own a cellphone or more, can't live without it and you don't even turn it off? Although I only have 1 cellphone, but my cellphone haven't been off since the day I switch it on (unless due to certain situations such as my phone auto power off etc). Some may have to keep their cell phone on due to work matters, but are there times you wish you could turn off your phone? And do you have the habit to turn off your cellphone? If yes, why? To save the battery? If no, why? In case of emergency calls?

I only switch my phone off when I have to like when Im at the pictures or in a hospital etc. Its not that I use it all that much or have many calls coming through but its "just in case". I would hate to think I missed an important call because I had my phone turned off when it didnt really have to be.

Same thoughts as you... My phone seldom rings actually but I really won't want to miss any calls as it could be "that" important call and also, I might just forget to turn it on, and thus, I don't turn off my phone unless I really had to...

My current mobile phone has been with me for six (6) months now, more or less. This device serves as a communication tool for me and my husband. I bought this after I received my early retirement pay from my previous employer. And it's been months that my husband had to work far away from me and our daughter. He is quite the jealous type of guy and he likes me to always text him on a daily basis. In fact, he's my only textmate until I got my present job; wherein I had to provide my mobile phone number to the office for work-related matters. Eventhough I send messages to only a few people, I still consume a considerable amount for this device. So to answer your query on this particular discussion, I rarely turn my cellular phone off, even if I wanted to. Personally, I feel that I can be myself more without this device. Not that I'm hiding anything or what, I find it rather annoying that my husband had to check on me even when I'm busy at work. Back in those days when I don't own one, he had no way of checking in on me from time to time. He still calls me in the office through the landline phone, but not as often as now.

Yes, nowadays, a mobile phone has somehow become a tracking device that you want to turn it off... But yet, you can't. Because people who contact you via it will be paranoia if they failed to reach you. At least my mom is one of them when she can't reach my dad on his cell phone. However, if we think positively, it's goes to shows that there are people are there who wishes to stay in contact with you.

At the moment, my current cell phone I have is starting to show its age in the form of a deteriorated battery. The battery now only lasts a single day on full charge, so I use it sparingly by only leaving my phone on during the hours when I know people will try and contact me the most

Oh, that's bad. Is your mobile phone under any warranty? Try to get a replacement. It's good to turn off the phone once in a blue moon but if your cell phone is the only source of contact for people, it's will be a problem if they can't contact you.

Most of the cases i dont off my phone. the reason is not only that i dont want to get disturb. there is a facility in my phone of being offline and i do this for that. but it takes too much time to start as it has many softwares and also have a antitheft one. which sends message as it starts. so during many days i dont switched my phone off generally

I only turn off my cellphone when the need arise like when i'm on the airplane or inside a bank. Even when charging my cellphone i don't turn it off mainly because there might be an emergency call so i can't be contacted obviously if its off.

Oh... Inside a bank? Why? I only turn my phone off if I need to board the plane or when I am attending an interview. Other times such as entering the library, catching a movie at the theater, I will just turn them to silent mode. Same thoughts about having the cell phone on all day for just-in-case point-of-contact.

I sometimes switch off my cell phone when I get an unwanted call and it starts coming again and again. Also, when we are in a meeting or a conference, I switch off the cell phone so that it does not cause any distraction during the course of the meeting. And also while sleeping, I keep my mobile phone switched off!!

That's good for you. I consider myself a light sleeper and thus, I will wake up easier if there is a moderate disturbance such as a phone ring. But I am afraid that there might be emergency situation and thus, I don't turn off my phone even though it might wake me up. I guess it's a thought of better be safe than sorry. Thank you for sharing!

well, i would never be a paranoia of considering someone calling me for something really important. I know that he/she won't blame me for ignoring the call. Well, if i do am awake because of the call, then it's fate. i do believe in destiny that when you are asking for help, and there is someone who is helping you while actually he is not supposed to be there. but anyway, i appreciate your thoughts and everyone has their own opinion toward things in life. Happy mylotting

Sometimes I turn off my cellphone especially if there is someone annoying me. Or there is a call that I don't want to receive. There are also times that I want to shut off myself from others. :)

Definitely same thoughts, if someone is annoying me, and I don't want to have a confrontation or an argument with that person over the phone, I also would opt to turn off my phone. Hopefully that person doesn't have my home number or knows where I live. I won't want him/her appear out of nowhere to start something I want to avoid. Thank you for sharing and have a nice day!

Yes, when in foul mood, it's really better not to be disturbed or contacted. At least that is one of the main reason why I won't want to be contacted. Or else, it's very hard to predict what will happen to the person on the other line.

I really don't turn off my cell phone, because I am always scare that I will receive any emergency call and I wouldn't be available, and with emergency I mean something that happen to my family or to my boyfriend. I don't like to be disconnected from the outside world because I never know when I can be needed it.

True, I think one of the main factors that I had my cellphone on for 24/7 is because of just-in-case-scenarios that ranges from friends needing a listening ear to emergency point of contact but hopefully this factor will never be required. I wonder if there will be a time where everyone will just need a cellphone instead of a fixed home line. But well, just my own thoughts here. Thanks for sharing!

Cellphone is like an essential part to me now. I haven't turned of my phone since I have bought it, ya unless due battery problems or when in a flight. I don't know the exact reason but i cannot keep my phone switched off, I have no work over the phone but still. I like to stay connected with everyone, I can't have a moment where I cannot be available for the people who know me. Plus this the device where all my friends call me for a party or going out. Now I can't say to going out to the pub.

Well, same actions here. Since the first cellphone I owned, I don't adopt the habit of switching them off. I guess nowadays, we are becoming very reliance on cellphone for communication. I know of people who don't have a home line but need a 24-hours-power-on cellphone...

I used to be paranoid about my cellphone, I would never turn it off since everybody used to call me. Nowadays, it's very rar for me to get a phone call so I sometimes leave it whole weekends without charging the batteries. I talk to most of my friends via Instant Messaging so the cellphone is kinda useless when i'm at home. But when i do go out, which is not always, i always charge my phone before hand and take it with me.

Ah! Same practice here (regarding the having my phone battery charged before going out). But my cellphone has always been not ringing because I don't really have much people calling me other than my family, my boyfriend and one or two of my close friends and that's about it. I think it's good that I am contactable by people so if they ever need a listening ear, I don't mind lending them mine.

You are meticulous. If not for the fact that I am a forgetful person, else I would like adopt the practice of turning off my phone to save the battery life and also to prevent disturbance to others. Thank you for your response.

The only times I turn my phone off is when I go to bed, and when I go to church. I don't need the phone on at night sa I don't want to be disturbed, and I turn it off before I get into church so that I won't get a call and it disturbs sthe sermon. I did leave it once in church, and it rang, and I ran out of church with it, but by the time I got to the narthex, it had stopped ringing. I looked to see who it was and called back and it was my daughter. She normally won't call when I am in churc, but she had been crying and I needed to find out what was going on. It turned out not to be much, but she could have waited until I got home to call me, as I usually call her when I get home from church. Otherwise, I have my phone on all the time, as it is my only phone I have and sue. Take care, and happy mylotting.

I see. I guess your daughter just missed seeing you at home (at least that's the most norm reason for kids calling their parents). I wonder if anyone out there turned off their cell phone to save their battery life. Normally I will just switch my phone to silent mode when I am in the movie theater or in the library, if not, most of the time I will leave it on so I won't miss important calls. Turning off the phone is only when I am going for a flight ride where all electronic devices have to be turned off during the take off.

Yes, I heard about the radiation stuffs. I still remembered years ago, there was a sticker like stuff that is paste onto the phone which was supposed to help reduce the radiation or such. A pity that it didn't work that way. Thank you for sharing.

Yes, if it were for silent purpose, definitely switching to silent mode would be a better option. But if we are boarding a plane, definitely we can only choose to turn off the phone for a safe ride. Thank you for sharing
