There's this song by Baz Luhrmann, "Sunscreen," which is like a letter reading of random advice. The original writer is Mary Schmich, published in Chicago Tribune on June 1, 2997. It was supposedly her "commencement speech," if ever she were asked to give one.
One line there says "Do one thing everyday that scares you."
I'm starting tomorrow, coz I need to sleep now.
What are 7 SIMPLE, EVERYDAY things that scare you? Let's do this for a whole week!
1. Work.
2. Obey my mom.
3. Tell my father I love him.
4. Reconcile with a long-lost enemy.
5. Talk to a certain pastor at church.
6. Pour my heart out to a friend who's not exactly a superfriend.
7. Be nice to my boyfriend.
Let's do this!!! :D

I mean, that it's a challenge for me to do. :D
When it's challenging, there's an element of fear involved, that's why I included that here. :D

that is a good one, to try to win a battle by emerging as the by being strong, accepting your fears and weaknesses and facing up to it. I think this is a very good thing to do, if not everyday, at least once in a while. I have my own list of things... things i should be able to settle myself so i could move on and find a better and happier life without worrying about chance encounters with enemies, etc. I wish to find the courage to do this and face up to the challenge... everytime i try somethings still hold me back.

Hmm... "Every time I try some things still hold me back."
Yeah, sometimes it's really scary to reach out to other people. Other times circumstances seem to "conspire" to discourage you from doing what you've planned to do..
As for me, I believe that these are challenges to get us to persevere to do the very things we were supposed to do. And for that, we have to really make an effort to do these, despite the opposition, despite the things that conspire to stop us from doing what we've resolved to do. :)

I have been putting off responding to this discussion because aside from it being a good interesting topic, I was quite challenged on what to answer. It seems like an easy question but when I thought about it nothing comes to mind. I didnt know what scares me: aside from heights (and I dont think jumping off a bridge counts as a response).
I was looking for a discussion in my inbox that I could respond to and as I browsed through them, a thing that scares me popped in my head. The one thing that scares me the most would be talking children. I mean Im more wary of them than scared but they do sometimes put me to the test. They just have their own rules that Im afraid they could expose something about me that Im not really vocal about, or they embarrass people (not necessarily me) and not really care about it, or they could hit me just because they wanted to and I cant really discipline them because they're a strangers' kid. I guess they're the most brazenly unpredictable of all people and unpredictability might not sit well with me.
I dont know that many kids nowadays since they've all grown up but I have learned to defend myself from children's unpredictability. Before they do something, I already smile at them and they seem to go along their way.LOL
Aside from that fear, a certain tv show gives me the chills because of its effects but I do try to watch it without flipping the channel to ease the tension.LOL^_^

Haha, this is funny. :D
I used to be scared of being prayed over by spiritually gifted people for the very same reason: being exposed. Haha!
But I have nothing to hide anymore, so I guess I can *almost* no longer relate.
But yes, feeling vulnerable really is scary.
Though, I've never experienced kids getting too frank with me. I think there's something about me that's pretty scary; even adults are scared with me.. So... Heheh.

Will look it up. Yeah, most of the time, if we don't force ourselves to do certain things, we may actually miss out on what could have been a great break for us. Thanks for participating!

What really scares me the most is that one day i wont get to say and do those things that you enumerated...What if i wont have my father anymore next morning, what if something bad happens to my priests next day, things like that. Dont be afraid to do good things for you'll never know when will be the last that you will be able to do such deed ;) happy mylotting

Hmm yeah. I guess a lot of people need to deal with actual fears. I guess I've overcome a lot of my fears that I've almost forgotten how it felt like to actually fear that you'll lose your parents, your spiritual mentors, etc.
One thing is for sure though: if you trust in Jesus, all these fears of loss will be removed. :)
