Well I have now got a Mover for the Move, a lot cheaper then the last quote
I have finally heard back from the Landlord and the outcome is.........
H will replace all the Carpets, the Cooker and the Shower, yeah great...........
But the Decorating is not getting done till a few months down line
I am not to happy about that, he is telling me that he has run out of money as he has had to take the previous tenant to court to get him out, no disrespect, but that is not my fault
Well I have told him that the Decorating better does get done and in the Summer, so that all Windows can be open as the Paint Fumes will certainly make me Ill with my Lungs
I am not happy over this but it is so hard to find somewhere with a Dog also I do not want to go through all the Paperwork again with the Housing Benefits as that is such a Pain to and I need to be in a warmer Place I just can not handle this any more
I then phoned my Internet/Phone provider, who then tells me it will take 7-10 working Days to transfer to the new Place huh????? why????? I mean they are just transferring for goodness sake, so I guess I will be of line till that is all on arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, please let this be over
I have also done a great thing, I have done my back in hehehehehe, I also have a problem with the Lungs again which is making me pretty Ill but hey I am here and I am packing and looking after my Baby Gissi who is slowly recovering from his relapse
So anyone else going through this ????????

Aw sweets, this is not good. You don't need the extra stress. But there are all kinds of paints on the market now without an odor, and if you make it clear to your landlord paint fumes can make you sick, hopefully he will use a good brand to cut down the odor. If he doesn't get all the decorating done before you move in, don't worry about it. I'll do it when I'm there. I used to have my own decorating company for nearly 20 years, so I'm a pro. lol And if I can plan my trip without having to stay in a lot of hotels, then I will probably come before Sept. It will depend on when our own move is over....
Right now you need to concentrate on you and Gissi and getting through the physical move as stress free as possible. And when you're offline, keep in touch with me by phone. You'll get through this. You have to.......I'm coming! LOL

OH dear I sure do know what a hassle moving can be!!!
I moved here in November for work. It took the landlady a month to get it ready and even then had not finished one room. She DID get the new windows in though and the new floor and paint through out. And I changed my rooming plans so that the unfinished room is just being used for storage so it isn't a big deal.
The real problem started the week I moved in; my landlady got real sick and had to go in the hospital. It was discovered she had cancer and was given 6 months to live.
She had been through treatment 4 times for cancer in the past and decided to forgo any aggressive treatments. She lived a month. She was a wonderful lady that I was really looking forward to getting to know and renting from, and I was greatly saddened at her passing.
As it stands now, almost 4 months after moving in, I have not unpacked hardly anything and have not put up any decorating because I have NO IDEA if I will have to move or be staying. If the family decides to sell, I will have to move and if they decide to raise the rent I will move.
HOPEFULLY I will get to stay here without any raise in the rent!! I like it here and REALLY don't want to move AGAIN!!
I hope your back gets to feeling better soon and am glad Gissy is letting you pack now lol.
I am sure the landlord will get the decorating done as soon as he is able, and when he paints, perhaps you can use that as an excuse to go s=visiting one of your local friends or your family
Big Hugs Gabs and I have sure missed you!!

It sounds like all the packing and running around has made you have a set back in your health. Try to take it easy and go a bit slower making sure that you get rest when you are tired...don't over do it. Making a move and dealing with all you have to is no good when you are under the weather.
I do understand what the landlord is going through. My mother had places for rent and I helped her with running them, the redoing everything when people moved out, getting someone out that would not leave. It was a trial that we neither one of us wish to repeat.
My son is moving out into a place with his girlfriend and her 3 children. I have been helping them. I also have been helping my brother-in-law since he has to have heart surgery (bypass).
I am also dealing with Ninjas cancer and the thought of losing him within a couple of months.
We are going to Alabama (another state) to see my grandmother probably for the last time since she has been diagnosed with lung cancer and is not doing well.
I'm so emotionally and physically exhausted.
Things must get better for you and us. We really need that.

Well at least you will have new carpets, stove and shower - three of the most germ-laden areas, and after the previous tenants who knows what could be lurking in the old?
Did you sign a rental agreement when you agreed to take the place? Were the renovations listed in the agreement? They should have been. If so, you can either insist they be done or you can insist on a reduced rental because his side of the contract is not met.
I'm pleased you found a mover. I hope he is a reputable one who will make the move easier for you. Don't overdo things!

If a landlord in Australia had to take the previous tenant to court to get him out and then had to replace carpet, shower and cooker then the rent would be increased to pay for it all. It's not your fault gabs but it's not the landlords either. It sounds to me like you are really lucky to get those improvements and allowed to have Gissi too.
I think it's crazy that your ISP needs to take so long to transfer you. Does someone have to come to the house? If it takes that long I would be taking notes and insisting on a rebate. There are rules here whereby the ISP legally has to provide 60% connection 75% of the time or something like that. The service here has been terrible lately but I'm using wireless and so my service provider blames my wireless connection.
Chin up...and take care.

Hi MsTickle
Here in the UK it is the Landlords responsibility to make sure that the Flat is not damaged to that extend, also he should have insurance for that sort of thing and he is suppose to visit the Property with 24 hours notice every 6 months just to check that things are ok
This Landlord told me the last time he checked was 18 months ago so it is his fault that it got to that state as it did not happen in the last couple weeks it was like that when I first viewed it 6 weeks ago and they where still living there
When I have to pay pay Bond money and a months rent in advance, the Flat should be all ready for me
I will have it put in the Tenancy agreement about the Painting as he is not pulling the wool over my eyes
The Landlord should have an Insurance for this sort of thing
No one has to come to the House for the ISP as there is a line already there so I can't see the Problem there at all but will see it might not take that long

Hi Cats yes I am an Ex Army Wife and I am an Army Daughter lol well was
I know all about moving believe me this will be my 19th move but in the Army it was somehow easier as you booked everything through them there was no worries where to get the boxes or the Movers from
The Movers where free as long as you where not over your allocation of Space
But I was healthier then
With the 2 little ones about while trying to pack lol but it was easier
This is just stress after stress lol

Like you, I'm an Army daughter and a retired Army wife so yeah, I follow you. It is much easier when we were able to just call and schedule the movers and have them come in and pack everything and take it when the time came to make the move. I've done that a few times and I've moved myself a few times as well (more than just a few times but it's a figure of speaking) so I know it's no fun doing it yourself but with the help you're getting, it'll be done in no time. Like I said before, hang in there!

No, thank heavens i'm not & am very sorry u are having to. I would be a little leary about him doing it later. they really should paint before he puts the new carpet down, duh. I hope he does what he's suppose to do. i would tell him the painting needs to be done for more reasons than one. he will be lucky yo have a good renter after the slobs he had. might not do any good but i would push him a little on it. sorry about your back but not surprised, moving is the pits & very hard work.does he do the painting himself. could u offer to help pay for it & him take it off your rent?that needs to be done before u move in. glad gissi is doing o.k. take care. hugs.

Hi gabs! I feel so bad that you have to go through all this
crap! I think that moving is one of the worst things to have
to deal with! But, once it's over and done with you will feel
so much better! And, I know that you are a bit upset now that
all the stuff can't be done before you move in, but being that
it is Winter and so very cold you are better off doing the
painting in the warmer months so you can keep the windows open!
And maybe you can stay somewhere for a day or so! I know right
now you feel that this is never going to end, but it will!
Pretty soon you and Gissi will be in your new home and the
two of you will be warmer and happier! Does this new place have
a fireplace too? I know how much the little man loves that!
Just try to take it slow and easy and it will be over before
you know it! Just hang in there gabs! Sending lots of postive
thoughts and love to you and Gissi! Love, Leslie, Star and Luna

hi opal and Gabs wow moving is one of the biggest stresses, just be sure you get the mover to get a big enough truck, we made that error of getting too small a truck, a nd as we were putting our stuff in storage had to rent storage space, and my son goofed on the size of that too, which meant as we were being evicted we lost about a third of our beloonging, now I can look back and not cry, but boy was I a mess for several weeks, and having to be here in this retirement center was for me the last straw.but I did recover, and all in all we are fine for now and hoping things will be good for us, and for Gabs and Gissi too. being warmer should be really good for both gabs and my pal Gissi. love.

It's good to hear that you've sorted a lot of things out with your new landlord, but I think you have to put your foot down with the decorating. It would affect both you and Gissi to have it done whilst you're resident in the house... even if the windows can be left open, the smell of paint lingers for a while, and it's not safe. I think you need to see your doctor or hospital about this and get a note from them saying that you're unable to have the place decorated whilst you're living in. It should be done and dry, at least 48 hours before you even consider moving in there.
I suspect he doesn't really understand the consequences of your disability, so I would tend to give it to him in writing, so that if anything untoward doeshappen because of his negligence or refusal to do things to a schedule which respects your illness, then you have something to come back on. Don't put your move in jeopardy but really, Gaby, he should look into his tenants' backgrounds a bit better, I would have thought. He's already let to a bad tenant, and gotten himself into problems; now he wants to make you ill... which could cost him even more! Cowboy!!!
You're paying a deposit for this place, right? Don't let go of it until everything's as you want it, or you'll never get the decorating and replacements once the money has changed hands. Brightest Blessings, and please don't stress over it... I know you want to move to the area, and that you're happy about the position of the new place, but you have to consider the consequences. Take care, my friend.

Awwwwwwwww Sweetz I am so sorry that you and Gissi are having such a rough time right now! BUT the good news is it will get better! Once you get moved, everything transferred, and the new places gets it's finishing touches all will be well! Right now I am stressed as you know because the LandLord is selling the house we are renting and I don't know what the new owners plan on doing IF they even bought the place after the Home Inspector came Friday! I haven't hear anything yet. BUT if by chance they do want me and my family out by law we have to be given 90 days notice! That is great and all but with the housing shortage in the city right now I know I won't find a new place in 3 months! I have been looking for over a year now! BUT I keep telling myself the same thing I told you to ... things WILL get better! They have to!

Yep, it would be nice to know but I still have no clue what's going on! I am starting to think that maybe the Home Inspector had some bad news for them as I know the basement has mold in the bathroom and laundry room so maybe they passed on buying it as they didn't want to shell out a lot for renos! I'm glad you know that if I lived closer I'd help in any way I could! I love you tons too sweetie and just remember it will get better, and once it's all done and your settled you will feel sooooooo much better! All my love to you and Gissi!

I hope you get everything moved and into the new place with everything settled soon. Maybe he'll be able to do the redecorating sooner rather then later, it would definitely be better instead of having to move all your stuff in and then later move it out or atleast cover it.
We're not going through the same thing but hubby and I did just move back from a place we lived in. Not our fault either, just fate... but we got everything moved in one day, and we're settled.

Geez, Gabs, I think I just went through it with you! I'm mentally exhausted from just reading all you've been through so far!
I've been through quite a lot of ordeals similar to this in years back. The one that sticks out the most is when I bought my first house. It was a very old rowhouse in Baltimore City. I bought it to renovate, then sell so I could afford a better house in a better neighborhood.
Apparently, the previous owner rented out part of it and she had an old, very large oven on the second floor that I had to take apart to get out because it was so large. (I have NO idea how she got it in there in the first place!) The day before the movers were to come, I went there to move the oven parts outside because they had been placed in the diningroom. I needed to get them out of the way for the movers. So, one piece at a time, I was taking them outside when I was stung on one of my toes by a HUGE hornet. (I had on sandals and he was hiding inside the stove parts.) Pain shot from my toe right up to my hip and I could barely walk, so I went back home where my mother insisted on taking me to the emergency room because I'm allergic to spiders and she worried; it's a mother's job you know. I didn't want to go but she insisted. The doctor gave me a seconal (VERY strong sleeping pill) because he said I'd have trouble sleeping once the itching set in. He said it would 'blow me away'. LOL I told him I couldn't be blown away that night because I was moving in the morning; I'd wait to be blown away until the next night.
Still, the next day, my foot was swollen and I was tired from not enough sleep, but we got moved, somehow. I had to go to the new house early to remove the rest of that oven, but this time I was smart enough to wear shoes with closed toes.
I wish you the very best in getting moved with no more issues or, at the least, minimal issues. I also hope your new landlord is honest about fixing the place for you when he said he would. I've had a few unscrupulous landlords in my time but there are some great ones out there. All the best!

Goodness Marti I bet that must have hurt a lot
I have moved with a sprained ankle before lol that was not easy but I did it
I am sure once I am moved and able to settle in I will be ok it is just all the carry on, why can't anything ever go smooth lol

If there's one thing I've learned about moving, it never goes smoothly. Murphy's Law was probably written by someone who had just moved. You know, "If anything can go wrong, it will and at the worst possible moment."
I try to remember a book written by Erma Bombeck when things are going wrong for me. The book is called "Life Is What Happens When You're Busy Planning Other Things." That's so true!
But, I know what it's like moving. I've done it quite a few times myself and it's never fun. I wish I could help! I hope everything goes as smoothly as possible for you. Just don't try to overdo it.

Don’t you hate delays? It seems that almost everything we do requires so much patience! I am the kind of person who wants everything done yesterday so you can imagine how frustrated I get when I have to wait for things to happen! Perhaps we have to learn the art of patience. The only thing to do is take everything one at a time and eventually it will all fall into place. Make sure you keep on reminding the landlord of his obligations and don’t let him get away with anything! I have been through this kind of thing many times because I’ve done a lot of moving in my life. I’ve been in the house I’m in for nine years and that is definitely the longest I have lived anywhere by a long shot! Hope Gissi is still recovering well and you take care of yourself, it sounds like you’re in a bit of pain there, please look after yourself. Good luck with it all!
