The bending of the spoon

How many of you suffer from this terrible problem, 'The Bending of the Spoon'. Every time I go for a scoop of ice cream in a carton I end up bending my spoon! There are a couple of spoons in my house that don't bend though and I have to hope they're clean and not in the dish washer! Ice cream scoopers don't do the trick! They're not shaped right for small cartons of ice cream. We need sturdier spoons, same regular spoon shape, but stronger! Various hand holding techniques of the spoon don't quite cut it! How do you try to get around this horrible horrible side effect of a delicious bowl of ice cream?

We usually use the ice cream scoop, but as for bending spoons, if it does bend I just unbend it. I've had that problem, but also it helps to set the ice cream out a few minutes before your going to eat it, or popping the carton in the microwave for a few seconds, I'd say no more then 10 seconds. Or you can always run hot water over the spoon and that can help loosen the ice cream a bit too.

The "run the spoon under hot water" trick works every time! With spoons or scoops! Getting the ice cream into the bowl as fast as possible is always the main goal!

I have a couple spoons that have just been bent too many times though so they've gotten weak X( But yea, microwave and warm spoon are good suggestions! I'm not a fan of microwaving my ice cream though :p so I'll just stick with the hot spoon trick.

Simple solution Brotha. Buy an Ice cream scoop. Until then dip your spoon into warm water before you scoop ice cream. This will help get it out of the carton into the bowl. I love ice cream! Happy Scooping dl

Haha i use the warm spoon trick! But I'm not the most talented scooper. I really don't like the scoop, I feel my ice cream cartons are too small for the scoop and there's not enough room for some good scooping action, so I usually end up with less ice cream per scoop than I would if I just tried to use a spoon. But yea, warm spoon really helps!

So everyone knows about the warm spoon trick hah? I thought it was my secret. lol I, too, am an ice cream connoisseur. I love Vanilla Bean with a ton of jimmies. I LOVE JIMMIES! Its funny I always used a spoon until I found this ultimate scooper. I dont care what I use as long as I can get the ice cream into the bowl asap. lol dl

If your ice cream is sufficiently cold enough to be bending your spoons, then it's a little too cold to serve...A Dessert Chef I know commented recently that leaving Freshly made homemade icecream in the freezer until it's like that would be something he's seen done as a Prank on someone!

I usually get ice cream in half-gallon cardboard containers and use a scoop. It usually works just fine until the box only has about 1/4 of the container full, then it becomes a problem.

have you ever punctured through the side of you carton? I sometimes end up doing that with both a spoon and a scoop. it's another problem with carton ice cream.

The bending of spoon while taking ice cream is due to the pressure exerted to take the ice cream from the depth. Actually , we should slowly take the ice cream from the top. Then the spoon will not bend. The top portion will get melted soon. So we should take the top melted portion and eat first.

Sweet! A scientific approach to such a simple task! I already do this though and still usually manage to bend my spoon. I'm pretty impatient I guess and don't wait for the ice cream to melt a little first. Also, it's probably the angle that I try to scoop with. I should go for a more sideways, sliding, motion when I scoop next, so it doesn't bend so much.

Before I take a scoop of my favorite ice cream, I put the carton in the microwave for 15 seconds, then I won't have to worry about bending the spoon. Or, I'd warm up the spoon on the stove or put the spoon in a mug and pour boiling water on it. Enjoy your ice cream, brotha!

I used to have this kind of problems too until I did 3 things 1) Went and got a good ice cream scoop. 2) Ran the ice cream scoop under hot water so that it scoops the ice cream perfectly! 3) I eventually stopped buying the cartons and started getting the 4 gallon pails of ice cream! You end up getting more ice cream for your buck that way so everyone wins!

Haha! I have the exact same problem. I always have to end up putting the ice cream in the microwave to defrost it a little or leave it out for a bit before I attempt to get it out! It so annoying!

brotha first get the really heavy ice cream scoop like the icecream parlors use then get a cup of boiling water, put the scoop into the boiling water for a few seconds, scoop out the ice cream withno bent spoons at all.simple and it works. but the scoop has to be like the ones used in ice cream shops. heavy, made for hard ice cream. then just heat it.

Oh my!! I will not force the spoon to scoop the hardy, hardy ice cream. I usually put the ice cream box in the counter before I will scoop it if it is very hard yet. I could imagine you have a strong hand to make that spoon bend just to take out ice cream from the box? hahaha.. funny thing!!
