How do you relax after a full day at work?

After a full day stories, words, and images, from any number of sources continue to play in our heads hours after we encounter them. Even as we lie in bed, in the quiet dark, our minds continue noisily processing all the input from our day. Is it any wonder that many people find it difficult to sleep? To make matters worse, many of us choose to end our day by watching the news, which rarely has any happy stories. How do I unwind, is a question that that many are asking all the time. Personally, I like to take my news in the early evening, that way I have time to digest it before I must try to sleep. I've also found going for a walk to be helpful as well as time spent in meditation. How do you unwind after a busy day?

I have a new job now ,and is very stressful because I'm a case worker
,so I try to relax by watching my favorite comedy shows ,and I try to
avoid the news. I already deal with a lot of problems since I assist
people with substance abuse issues.

I play video games, watch television, read or just sit and think. I talk to my husband, or take a shower, or go somewhere... maybe shopping if that is needed... Usually I just relax for a few minutes, come home and sit on the couch then get to doing other things that I'd wanted to do.

Hi, Pose! Excellent discussion, as always. I know for me, if I don't unwind after a crazy day at work, everything is thrown off. As weird as it sounds, when I first get home while I'm still on my feet, I complete whatever housework needs to be done so I can do all my running around the house at once. It's a stress reliever for me because I enjoy being home and just not being at work - LOL! Once the housework is done, I feel better so I can sit down and relax for a while unless my hubby is already home from work. If he's home from work already by the time I get done with the house, if he's hungry I'll start cooking dinner for us (while perhaps continuing to get house or kitchen work done). The laundry room is nice and close to the kitchen, too, so many times I can be juggling multiple tasks at once. I'm sure you know how that goes! Once dinner is done, the hubby and I will sit down to watch a show or movie all the way through. That gives us enough time to hang out, eat, and relax sitting down. We have a futon where we normally eat so our feet are up, and it's nice and comfortable. Usually once I sit down to dinner I don't get back up for a while unless there are more pressing matters for the house or husband. I will, of course, take the dishes back to the kitchen to put away, but normally after dinner is the most relaxing time. Once our show or movie is over, he will play video games while I read a book or do some MyLotting or other things online. Before it gets too late, I will get a nice shower and head to bed so I can get at least seven or so hours of sleep to wake up the next morning and do it all over again! I think it's really important to have some time to relax each day because if we don't have a balance in our lives and work, work, work all the time, our bodies will suffer. This is a wonderful discussion. Take care, my friend!

Hi JJeEver, Thank you for your comment and kind remarks. I know people who unwind just as you do and doing housework is a real stress reliever for them. The way you explain it all makes it sound wonderful, just like a happy home life should be. Blessings.

Hi Pose,
After a busy day I always look forward to a dinner with my two kids where they tell me about school, their friends, the shows they watched on TV, etc. Then after helping them with their assignments and before going to bed, we watch TV and talk a little more. These bonding moments are the things that make me relax and forget a stressful day.

Well I never used to relax till I went to bed because when I used to come home I used to do the Housework and then my time was for my Son and Daughter and I loved my time with them and I guess that was relaxing time for me when the 3 of us used to sit and talk or what ever lol

As a rule I don't even watch the news, as I find it too depressing and I get enough highlights from other people.
When I worked in an office, I had serious troubles sleeping because my mind just wouldn't shut off. Particularly if I am stressed or worried about something. But now that I have my farm, and I fill parts of my day with physical exertion, it comes a bit easier most of the time.
I have always had trouble winding down and stopping my mind from turning round and round at night. I do have a routine of getting all warm and tucked in, then watching some of my taped shows before bed.
I used to have a few drinks in the evenings, but with my stomach problems, that is no longer an option. So, I have a puff or 2 of MJ at bedtime and my mind shuts down and my muscles relax and I can fall asleep much easier.

Usually, I just watch TV, or go online. Before I would walk the treadmill, but not to relax but to lose weight! Nowadays, I just enjoy sitting around and watching TV. Before I gave my DS to my brother, I would play with it to relax.

Hi Pose,
I love reading your posts. Yes, unwinding after the whole days work is a difficult task. But I relax by doing a few breathing exercises before retiring for the night.
This gives me a very sound sleep and keeps me fresh for the next day.
Regards

Well when I was working in the past I used to relax after coming home, used to be little quiet and used to watch TV whatever channel which others were watching. Sometimes I used to check some interesting mails after taking mails and listen few songs and then I used to sleep.
Now before sleeping I used to serve food to fish watch them eating and also to the little newborn one which is born last month which is kept separately. Then turn off the light wave my hands in front of my fish tank with a smile of satisfaction and then I go to sleep.

after having a fully loaded day i look forward to jumping into the sauna and getting a nice massage afterwards. when i get home after the massage i would spray a lil bit of lavender essence in my pillow so i could sleep better. and to help me sleep faster i would read a book until i would finally fall asleep.

Hi, Pose123. I will just lay down in my bed and wrap my amethyst fleece blanket around my body.. And I will doze off to sleep. I also like watching me a movie when it is very quiet in our apartment. Walking helps me too. I also love when my kids rub my back or my scalp. I love having massages as I am trying to relax. This is one of my guilty pleasures of escaping from the aggravations of my daily life. I also love walking the track at the park if I can get the chance to walk. It really helps me forget all about my problems, just for a moment.

After a busy day, I just stay at home to relax. I don't like to go out on weeknights. I prefer staying at home and watching tv shows or movies. Sometimes, I curl up in my bed and read a good novel or some magazines. Sometimes, I just go online and surf the web. Sometimes, I also chat on the phone with my boyfriend.

i am a stay at home mom.... most people dont think that that is a job but it is... it is a 24 hour a day job there are no benifits and there is no sick time... i have discovered the only way that i can calm down after a long day is to put the kids in bed and lock myself in my bathroom and draw a hott bath in my big garden tub and just sit there until the water turns cold... it is the cheapest way that you can make your day seem better....

After a busy day, my action of relaxation is listening the music radio while I read my interesting book; or doing exercise for example go swmming, go walking. The purpose of relaxation is have a good sleep to support the next busy day.
