My computer broke down recently, and I lost all the data on the harddisk, including some really important ones.Even if I had backuped my data,it woundn't make any sense.Because the whole disks were formated.I think this is a disaster to every computer user, right?

Yup losing a data cost "unpredictable" values.
I've that kind of accident too and losing a lot of my work files. It wasn't hard that day as my friend told me about how to recover a partition content due to formated. I forgot the name of application I've used to recover 70% of all files, lucky I am all important files recovered successfully.
Well, if you search for those app in search engine that you're confort with, may be you'll find that software.
After that accident I've never put a backup in hard disk. Always used DVD-RW to safe my working files. As for software, I think free GPL provider as my software backup. Recovery CD that cames with my acer laptop considered to be my OS backup.
Well. Use other storage media to save your important files. It's makes life easier.

Backing up your files isn't pointless because they can be used on any computer even a reformatted computer. Of course you'd lose everything if you use portable data-storing devices. cd/dvds and flash drives.
And, yes computers have crashed on me. And, since I was in school I was used to backing everything up on discs to print from the school's computers and what not so none of my files stayed on my laptops.

Reformatting a HDD is always a disaster when you have not a complete backup.
I don't know how your disks were reformatted.
On Windows Vista and 7 if the System Recovery can't repair, it only suggests to reformat and reinstall : it's a disastrous option, as most the time the datas are safe in the HDD and can be easily recovered and backuped with a bootable Linux Live CD.

I already have had several instances where my computer has crashed on me and I lost some files that were important to me. There was an instance where I was still able to get in through safe mode so I managed to recover some of my files but when I reformatted that was the only time I remembered a save file I should have transferred during the time I was able to get in through safe mode. Now, I use either a USB, an External Hard Drive, or if a file is small enough, I back up by sending it to my email and storing it there.

Yes, you are right, that's the worst disaster any computer user would like to avoid. That's why backing up my precious data to an external hard disk is a must. I am not sure why you backed up your data to the same hard disk. Anyway, to make sure you don't lose data again next time, I would recommend you backup your data regularly, to an external hard disk instead of on the same hard disk. Finally, if the data you lost is really very important to you, you can engage a data recovery company to retrieve your data for you at a cost. They can get back lost data even if the hard disk has been formatted.

i used to have a laptop. It was a very old one but it got the job done. I have many archives stored in there like school work and also many photos and music. One day, it just stopped turning on and I still have to take it to the technician.
