I'm curious about the difference between the cost of basic groceries in different countries. I live in one of the 3 most expensive capital cities in the world and tourist often get shocked at the prices here.
How much do you pay a your local grocery store for:
Milk (please specify Gallon/liter etc
A loaf of bread (the one you normally buy
Eggs (specify how many, 6,10,12 etc)
Don't forget to add where you live and please convert to US $ so we can compare.

I just got back from my local grocery store where I bought all those items mentioned.
The eggs were on special today so I "only" had to pay $4.06 for 10 medium sized eggs. The usual price in my store is closer to $5.
1.5 liters of milk (0.4gallons) cost $1.70 ($4.25 pr. gallon).
Whole wheat loaf of breat (17 slices, 750 grams) cost $2.60 and that is on special offer. The average price for the same brand is $3.70.
My local shop is one of the least expensive ones in Iceland so if you think this is expensive, you should try the other stores!
One gallon equals 3.7854 liters. One liter equals 0.26417 gallons.

Wow, then I best not complain then!
I buy so many eggs because I have seven children.
But I also do art on egg shells. So I need to be able to pick from eggs because not all eggs are good for art purposes. They must be held up to the light to see if it has too many flaws that will show up in the art.
Thanks for converting the prices to dollars and your volume to gallon for milk. That was great!!!!

I don't think anyone pays as much as Icelanders for those basic items. I have noticed though that some things are cheaper here than in neighbouring countries. Those are mostly dry pasta, dry soups and sauces etc. Designer clothing and items that are normally very expensive everywhere are ofthen cheaper in Iceland than in most other countries.

Bangalore is said to be one of the most costliest cities in the world when it comes to boarding and all such stuff...
But bread would cost about 0.25$ for a pack
Milk is 0.3$ per litre.

Wow, wish I could buy groceries at those prices. How much would people pay in rent or pay for an average apartment for a family or 3 or 4 in Bangalore?
Zurich, Switzerland, Reykjavik Iceland and Tokyo in Japan are said to be the most expensive capital cities in the world. There might be other more expensive cities though. This is based on the average cost of living, both housing, food, clothes and basic things.

How much would that be in US $? I keep seeing members using the Rs as a currency but it's hard to compare that to others when we don't have the exchange rate.
If you are replying to this discussion, please convert the prices to US dollars. That is much easier than for everyone to have to go to a currency converter for each answer.
