2hrs Alternating Brown Out

Philippines
March 1, 2010 7:25pm CST
Yesterday, greater part of Manila experienced a two hours rotating brown. Other parts affected were Cavite, Batangas and Laguna. According to Meralco, the 2hrs brown out will be experienced through out the week. This is because 2 power plants, the Masinloc and Sual both had a boiler leak and is currently down for repairs. Were you affected of the brown out? What did you do? What do you normally do when there's a brown out in your area?

Two hours rotating brownout there in Manila is far better tan what we are experiencing here in Davao del Norte. We experience daily brownout for five hours, from 12nn to 5pm and that really sucks.

wow! wow! wow! really bad situation for you guys down south. i feel for you guys. i was a kid when there were 12 hour brownouts during the aquino administration and it was really frustrating not having electricity for a good part of the day. much worse was when the brownouts happened at night. it was soooo hot and very difficult to get some sleep. i remember my grandfather bought two units of generators so that there will be at least a couple of appliances running at home for our comfort. we usually would have a tv set running in the living room and a couple of electric fans in each of the rooms. anyway, those were not fun times at all. hopefully, things get better there franz!

good grief! It's like during the time of Cory when brown out is a part of Filipino's day to day life. I was just a kid back then, so it doesn't bother me if there's a brown out. It's a good scape goat to play hide-n-seek during full moons. But today, when most of the people and business are heavily reliant on power; having 5hrs brown out really bites the butt.

We always watch the news to stay updated on what's happening especially these days. We really prepared ourselves for the upcoming alternate brownout but luckily it didn't hit us here at northern caloocan. We prepared ourselves by buying emergency lights with a fan which can be bought at ace hardware :D handy and can last a bit. :)

also have that re-chargeable electric fan with light & radio. Bought it a year ago and still operating fine. Brown out and 2 toddles doesn't mix well. Hehehe

I was in the office so I barely felt that there was a brownout in here. I only knew when my son complained that he was not able to sleep well because of the brownout that happened. I think we should also start doing our part as consumers to really save on electricity as our power plants seems to be in bad shape this past few weeks.

I hope not! I heard that those PCOS machines have batteries in them that could last for 5 to 8hrs. Maybe COMELEC should also purchase from UPS just in case.

We heard in the news that ParaƱaque was also supposed to experience two hours of brown out at around 8 - 10pm. we got the candles, flashlights, etc ready but when the time for the alleged brown out came, we were pleasantly surprised to find that we weren't affected by it. When it's brown out in our area we usually go out the house to experience the breeze outside. that and it's the perfect time to chat with each other instead of always facing the monitor and watching whatever is on.

Even here in Makati, I guess they need to fixed it. Makati is the Business area. It really affect the business side. Specially in other area for the small business like computer shop, or any bussiness that use electricity.

We watched the news yesterday afternoon and so we're informed about the brown-out rotation. At 3pm, the power went out. We were expecting it to happen but not 'when' exactly it would happen, so we went out, dropped by Chowking in Laguna and had 'halo-halo' because it's really hot and stuffy at home. After an hour, we went back home thinking that the power wouldn't be back after another hour, but we were surprised that it's back on. We only had an hour of brownout in our place, and it's a good thing that it didn't happen in the evening when we're about to sleep.
