Is it rude to ask somebody's age?

I don't think so...there is nothing to asks a person about their age,at least being asks in a good manner. It will only sounds rude when after asking their age you laugh and say...'ah,ok...you are really old nah"(that's another story) For me,it's not a big deal. But it is not also my habit to asks other people about their age,unless really needed by circumstances.

Hi cloud31, I think it is not really rude to ask about a person's age... but maybe it depends on a situation... and depends upon the culture of a person. If I am asked about my age, I would not hesitate to answer. But I am refraining myself from asking other person's age until I get to know him more. One person I know, he came from the west and he shared to me that he never wanted to be asked about a personal matter, age is a sort of personal info about a person... so I learned from him, now I would get to know the person first before asking him about personal info... I really never wanted to sound rude...

Not rude, but I do know that some aren't too comfortable being asked about their ages. I would play subtle and start talking about my age instead..and then change to another topic, if I discover someone being uncomfortable. I won't keep on persisting if the person avoids answering.. that would be rude after that if I keep on asking.

hi cloud,In my place people shouldn't ask for women's age and men's salary---i do not follow this saying though---i never had any experience of asking a girl of her age as most of my mates are of my age in some exceptional cases elder. If its rude or not----depends on your thinking if you're not comfortable revealing it then one word which comes to your rescue is "Rude"---to ask a girls age.great day.

Asking about age is not offensive as far as I am concerned.Every people has their own age,and they better face with it.If you were old or too young so that I prefer to keep the information from the asker,you have the right to not answering. In some occation,asking sb's age is a way to express your care about his/her.If you are interested in knowing my age,I'd be more than glad to tell you.

I do not consider it rude to ask someone's age. But as it goes ladies like to hide their age and want to appear as young always so it is not considered in good taste to ask age of a lady. There is a saying in our country that says never ask woman's age and man's salary. It may be in appropriate to ask girl's age, but not rude friend. Keep smiling :)

Yes, cloud, I think it's rude to ask private issues, such as age, salary, family members...But it depends on the relationship between two people. And asking skill is also important. Many people ask such questions like policemen, it always makes me uncomfortable. So...sometimes I don't answer it. And I also seldom question others, unless we're so close or it's necessary.

Asking ladies' age in public is considered rude in many countries, since ladies may not want to let others know they are getting old.

I dislike when people ask for my age, as I`m concerned about it and about the reactions they usually have when I answer to that question, so I decided I would stop answering when someone asks me that. Probably many people have the same issue as me, so just in case I think that usually is better not to ask the age, just in case someone can feel offended. Not everyone thinks like this, but you never know what the other person might be thinking.

yes dear specially for ladies it is not even rudeness it is crime so it is a thing to keep secret so do not ask this question from ladies it is my advice to you.

It is not rude to ask somebody's age. What makes it rude is the negative reaction you get after you answer their question. :)

I am not of the opinion that age should be hided as even if u tell lie u have reached that age and ur befooling urself and not others by telling lie so better tell ur age correctly weather women or men in my opinion it does not matter

i think asking someone about their age is is not problem when the person we ask that is as man ,about the girl i feel it is not really nice and also depend on the the country ,the culture many many things.

I know people are sensitive about this but I dont see the problem. Im a bit funny about people asking my age because I look younger than I am but I certainly dont find it rude if someone asks me how old I am. I wouldnt worry about asking someone how old they are and if they think I am being rude then I think that they need to stop being so sensitive!

I think it is rude to ask peoples age often I also don't see why people need to know.

Hi Cloud I dont thin its rude at least on my opinion. I wouldnt mind saying my age. I guess the ladies when they reach certain age feel a need to hide their real age, and hence they dont like when someone asks their age. I think its because that question makes them feel the other one sees them old.

for me, there is nothing bad when somebody ask for it because we are getting older as time goes by. some of us maybe getting bad when somebody ask because they want to hide it most especially to the D.O.M. (lol)

i think its not so rude to ask age its an general que...for me.....m able to tell my age its ok.....n never...shy for it....
