Yeah unless you have to do some office work or type a paper for school or something computers are pretty worthless to me without internet capability. I mainly use the computer for going online or to look at guitar and bass tabs so I can play along to some songs.

I used a computer long before the internet. There are applications like Word, there was Wordperfect, Exel, Desk Top Publishing. You can buy graphiscs programs and a number of applications that do not require the use of the internet. However, with the internet you have many more options.

I personally feel that internet is one of the utility given on our computer together with many other useful things. It will depend on a person how and what for the computer is being used by him or her. There are many things that can be done without internet. Like I store my data on computer. I am a Stud Vet and I need to store complete data pertaining to each horse on computer which I update on day today basis. All photographs of my horses and the cases which I come across are being stored on my computer. I load my music and racing video clips on my computer which are very handy to me when needed. I have loaded some text books and technical videos in the form of virtual CDs by which I can access them at any time without the help of internet. I use my computer for writing letters and articles on word programme and store the same for future use. Thus I feel it is the individual's need and utility which is a deciding factor weather a computer is a useful tool with internet or without it. Thanks!

I used to work with computer without Internet connection for years. Internet become widespread in early to mid-90', but there were computers in offices in the late '70s so people used computers without Internet connection for almost 20 years. Computers are meant to make work faster and save time and every single second they do at least a million calculations which normal person would do for years and even decades. Maybe most of you are kids, so you use computers only to communicate and search for info, but rarely would use them for developing huge projects, datasheets, databases, schemes, complicated calculations and other useful research tools. For most of you computer is like TV set - just another kind of tool to relax and sometimes learn useful info instead of tool for developing tools, for exploration, as well as for precise work. So for most people born in the Internet era it's really hard to imagine the real practical usage of computers, so that they are blind for the wide choice of practical things that they could do even without Internet connection.

Maybe not entirely useless but it would definitely be way better if it had internet access. Of course you could still have many uses for your computer even if it isn't internet connected like typing documents and spreadsheets, editing videos and photos, playing games to pass the time and boredom, and many more. Some of these things could be done more effectively and efficiently if there is internet though.

I don't think that's true. When I took my computer back and forth to school everyday, I wasn't able to get on the internet at school. I was able to access just about every other application on my computer and what not without needing to be connected to the net. I may have gotten a warning or two opening certin programs, but those can be turned off.
So, no the computer is useful without internet. There are games you can play apps you can use that don't have to have an internet connection to work properally. You just have to get creative with it.

hi java09
well with regards to your statement, i to don'tknow if i would agree with you or not. because anything can be done in a computer with or without the internet. so i think it all depends on how you see the computer. and maybe the best thing to do about what you've experienced is that you should find more things that can be done without the net and be in a more appreciative and productive interms of computer usage.
Hope this gets to you..

I think they are more useful with the internet but not useless without it.
I can watch television on mine with a dvb dongle and play games that i have installed.
It would be turned off more often if there was no internet.

yes, these days computers appears to be useless asset if not connected to internet. Staying connected is important. Of course computers can be put to number crunching or word processing use in absence of internet, but the connectivity to internet brings life to computer.

It depends on who you are and the situation you are in. I'm a college student so I find computers very useful even with out the internet. Sometimes I have a project for school and I need to use power point or word and print documents or do some spread sheets and make budgets. I do have to admit, the primary use for my PC is the internet.

To be honest I had my computer like five years before I actually ever even got internet for the first time. I played games on mine all the time and I used it to write and print things..there is alot you can do with a computer that doesn't have internet. You just have to have games that you have either downloaded that doesn't need a connection to play or have computer game disk.

Also you can still use other things like listen to music and use your digital camera to download photos and edit them and print.

I beg to differ with you. Yes, the majority of the things that I do on the computer involve the internet, but I can also think of things that I would do if my internet was out for a period of time. I do a lot of digital scrapbooking and this is how I have occupied my time when I don't have access to the internet for whatever reason. In fact, I am usually more productive when it comes to my scrapping when I don't have access to the internet.

Without internet connection, we can not discuss, play games anything or earn (those who earns) from online. Unless i have any office (working ) related activities, i may feel lonely. I never had such experience. Even if i do not have any net connection, i go net browsing centre and i do something on net.

I have been content with my computer even though the internet does not exist. I could play games installed with a cd,write documents ,listen to music, watch a movie. Now I have internet but sometimes I get tired of the addiction with this stuff. The only advantage of having internet I see was the ability to convey valuable information to the needy user. It connects people faster and cheaper. I learned that with the huge impact of internet to my life I have to step back a little. It can be the reason for laziness too.

hi! no, they are definitely not useless/worthless without internet. there are so many things that we can do on the computer without even having internet connection- we can listen to thousands of songs without having to change the CD's, we can play games and entertain us, we can watch movies or just view our digital memories- the photos :)

For me, I don't believe computer is a need, but they are want. Theys days, to improve the technology, almost everything is very dependent on the computers. providing those simulations and control to all the mechanical systems, gaming systems, electronic and more..
But a number of people would say sure, i could live without a computer, my guess is some of those people don't realize how reliant various normal activities are on computer behind the scenes.
