Do you know about the "Do Not Call" list?

In the U.S., their is a national "Do Not Call" list for land lines as well as cell phones. This a list of numbers that the telemarketers can not call because the owners of these phone signed up for this list. I got into a discussion with a telemarketer recently. I asked that they not call me any more, in essence, do not call. The telemarketer stated that he could not do that, that I needed to put it in writing. I asked why? He said because it would be a better way to know for sure that is was the owner of the phone that was making the request. So, I said "you are willing to take my information over the phone with an end result of charging me money yet you will not give in to my request." Somehow, for me, this does not add up! I ended with "since I do not know who I am taking to, I am hanging up." How do you handle telemarketers? What do you do to get rid of them?

This can be annoying for sure. I recently went thru something about this familiar with a company and I asked the person on the phone why he was calling when I had requested before to never be contacted from that company again. I told him I would like to never be contacted from them again and he needs to take note of it, and I was not nice about it when I said this. Sometimes I think even when you are supposed to be on a DO NOT CALL list, they still manage to find ways around it as well.

In my country too the government has started a service which if one subscribes to, after paying a fee, one can avail of this facility of barring telemarketers from contacting you. I have not subscribed to it since i hardly get any calls from them and if any come, its once in a blue moon.Incase i start getting many calls then i will certainly subscribe for this service bit at the moment its not neccessary. And yes if such calls do come i immediately say that i am not interested and they then hang up.

Hi veejay! It's too bad you have to pay a fee. We here do not pay a fee. Thanks!

yes, we recently got it here in Canada (within the last couple of years() but i believe that you in the US have had it a lot longer. it is definitely worth the effort into putting your name on it. we have call display so i generally dont answer a number if i dont know it.
