Fair and honest elections: Is it possible in the Philippines?

Can our country ever have a chance of a fair and honest election? I mean, come on, we are all aware of the politicians' activities and gimmicks during elections - vote-buying here and there, and others. Is there any chance for change? Can we still or shall I say, do we still have to hope for a better Philippines?

It's possible but I don't think it'll happen.

The voting public or 90% of it in below the said poverty line which means they need money. That is the target of the politicians to get the vote they need. So as long as we the people are willing enough to stand on our rights as citizens of this country. We should stand up and say no to brides and a lot of other things that the politiacians will do just to get a vote from us. There should be a guideline as to how to filter a person of quality as to who to vote for or what we should look for a candidate especially if the presidential chair is at stake. Given that it is the highest government position that we are going to vote a person into. Hope that in this up coming elections we learn to use our brains to think of our childrens future. Not only for the present time but dig deeper in to the future

yes, if we join hand in hand to make our election a successful one, then it will happen. this election will work out if Filipinos will do something for the change. i believe there is still hope for our country. it is not just the government officials we are changing but ourselves too. we have to be disciplined enough to vote for the right people to sit and not for sitting people in government. if we want change, vote wisely. there is still hope. we just have to believe and work for it.

No it's impossible unless a lot of people would risk their lives for the benefit of other people to know the truth.

I'm not being pessimistic but I don't think Our country would ever have a fair and honest election. Even if you are a candidate that you will never cheat in the elections, you can never be sure that the people under you would do the same! I think the only solution is to change our form of government into something new that will eliminate all of this bad schemes. Some people just wait for election because it is where they can only get money.

hi there hunterkim, I am not saying no that it is not possible. But with our current situation now I can say this election will be the most chaotic one. Fair and honest is not possible with this election. We are still on the campaign period but there are lot of vote buying and bribery. . I just hope this election will be fair.and peaceful also

Nothing is impossible. But it would take a lot of political will on the part of those already in power, education on the part of the voters, and integrity on the part of the candidates. The most important of this 3 is the education of the voters. By education I mean voters should understand the value of their vote, they should be taught to discern what makes a good candidate based on their honesty/integrity, political programs and performance credentials. And NOT TO VOTE base on celebrity endorsements, popularity, campaign events and regional pride (ilocano, cebuano, kapampangan etc...). Another misconception that most voters had is that after elections its all up to the elected officials. Regardless of who we vote for, if we do not change within ourselves then the ball of change will not begin to roll in the first place. I always believe that Change should BEGIN with the voters and Be INSPIRED by those elected.

It wouldn't be possible as there are many of these politician will do whatever it takes to win. We can't single out that this only happens in the Philippines as will as other countries and could possibly be also in the USA. Politics is a very dirty world you will good people became evil because of power they have. What we could do is to start from ourselves like as the saying's be "honest if others are not".

It is possible by definition, but I think all elections in every part of the world are dishonest. Politics is dirty. That's just the way it is. We can only hope for change, just don't count on it.

The success of this coming election depends on us Filipino people. If we let these corrupt officials buy our votes then nothing will change. Let's make our stand. Vote not base on popularity and money. Vote for someone who can stand for us. We have suffered for the longest time..partly our fault.
