"Chubby" is generally a euphemism for the word "fat". The word "fat" offends a lot of people as some obese people are in denial. The word "chubby" is used so as to not offend those people. It is an inoffensive way or kindly way to say someone is "fat". It is often used to describe fat children and also women.

From what I know, chubby means that you are currently 15 to 20 pounds over your ideal weight. You'll know that you are chubby when you have difficulty in buttoning your clothes or zip your pants zipper with ease. Fat means that you are more than 20 pounds over your ideal weight and you no longer fit in your usual clothes.

chubby is cuter, more of a term of endearment (or can be). Fat is insulting.

i have just used the mylot search box and found out that they really have the same meanings. they are both round, plump, fleshy. i think it's only in the way we use it and how to use it with a person or a thing.

yeah, the others are right- "fat" is the world that we use in our daily round and sometime when we want to insult someone, and chubby we use when the person is not so "round" or we don't want to sound like fools!

I think of chubby as slighly fat,the word fat makes it sound well fatter.
