You will find several websites offering nutritional and exercise advice on preventing or at least delaying the onset of diabetes. i think the threshold at which one is considered to be diabetic has lowered over the years as the medical profession has become more aware of the need to treat it. My doctor told me about 5 years ago that i WOULD become diabetic but, through diet and exercise i managed to delay it & only started to take medication 2 weeks ago.

i guess if both parents have it then theres also a tendency that you will also have the same if not with you the expect it with you children. my mother had thyroid though she already had thyroid operation and im not the lucky one coz i inherit it, lucky are my other siblings. i dont know why it strike me since im the youngest and we are 8. we really cant avoid it if it strike us, all we need to do is to accept it and cure it

gymnema sylvestre, vanydl splphate, crominum are said to be good for diabetes type 2. Drsinatra.com and dr. Whitaker.com are good sites to look at. We like their products.

hi ksmita I am a type 2 diabetic as I take oral meds not insulin and the best way to avoid getting diabetes is to keep your weight down, fat impeded the exchange of insulin ushering in the blood sugar so instead the sugar floats around in your blood, causing all sorts of problems to your body. eat plenty of fresh fruit and veggies, all colors, lean protein, low fat milk, and whole grains, keep your weight down eat right and get lots of exercise, this will help avoid the disease.

@ Ksmita: In my family, we have a common hereditary health issue which is specifically related to the heart. My grandmother has high-blood pressure problems and also has developed diabetes while my father now experiences high-blood pressure as well. The most common thing i do to prevent these diseases to affect me is by eating right (less fat, calories) and by regular exercise. You need also to practice good discipline to do this.

hello. Like you my family has a familial disease of diabetes. There are two types of diabetes, the one where you can get it through genes/inherited, and the other one from your lifestyle. In your case you're more prone of getting it. The only thing that you have to do,so you can't get it is through exercise, eat low sugar foods, and have your blood sugar test regularly, like once in 3 or 6 months.

It is being said that there are some illnesses that can be passed to the offspring and inherited by any of the members of the family. My father's family has a hand-me-down disease called hypertension, though this is very common among people, I am afraid of this disease because it can complicates other function of the body. So ever since, I am very cautious what food to take and so far my health is in excellent condition but I am not taking this as a reason to relax, I am still very careful of my lifestyle and foods.

As what I have learned in my college years in Nursing, it is much of great risk that you may acquire diabetes also. Diabetes has known to be very hereditary, meaning it can be passed through the next generations. Knowing that your at risk of acquiring the disease, it should be important that you seek a medical consultation from your physician every now then, or you may just have your blood tested for sugar level, or urine for glucosoria (sugar in the urine). Three major symptoms of Diabetes are polyuria (excessive urination), polydypsia (excessive thirst) and polyphagia (excessive hunger). If you manifest all these three symptoms, I suggest that you should see a doctor. But it does not necessarily follow that once your parents have it, you would also have it. It is just that you are at risk for acquiring such. For you not to develop it, live life happily. Watch out for your diet and do exercise. That's the best thing you can do.

Diabetes is an example of degenerative diseases. what is degenerative disease? A degenerative disease is a disease in which the function or structure of the affected organ or tissues will progressively deteriorate overtime, wether due to normal bodily wear or lifestyle choices such as exercise or eating habits. Degenerative diseases are often contrasted with infectious diseases. I recommend this nutritional food supplements, USANA products. This may prevent dgenerative diseases like diabetes, stroke, heart attack etc.. Please check this site: http://francisk.usana.com Share it with you parents. Have a wonderful day!
