I have occassionally seen advertisements about the negative calorie diet. Apparently there are certain foods that really help speed up our metablism and this help us loose weight.
I did a bit of research today and found a list of 40 negative calorie foods.
There are supposed to be 100. If I list the ones I found here, would anyone know of some of the other foods?
Have any of you tried the negative calorie diet? Were you successful in loosing weight?
PS. This doesnt mean you eat only negative calorie foods, just as much as possible instead of other foods.

cabbage

That's a very good list there. Negative calorie diet..that's the first time I come across this term. I think it has been around me the whole time, just doesn't realize it. 40 negative calorie foods, most of the stuff, I love them. I maintain my weight by eating boiled foods. I don't like half-cooked foods and I can't stomach them. I can only eat fully cooked food and I dislike the oil. So I stick to boiled foods.. soupy stuffs. It works..and I think we should make it more interesting and match it up with occasional fruits and lots of veggies. If I don't see my greens in my meals, I don't really feel much of an appetite. Eating habits need to be cultivated to stay healthy, in my opinion. And another tip I've read somewhere and have followed since, which is ever to eat until too full. Just barely minimum.. or slightly before being full, I'll stop.

You will have to keep trying, soon you will enjoy having it when you start seeing the results.
Actually, people are not willing to wait till they see the results. I myself was so bored last year when I tried to lose some weight. But now I feel, that if at all I had tried and continued it, I wouldhave lost a few more pounds!!

I understand the principle behind this diet, foods that take more energy to burn than the calories they supply, but never heard it called a negative calorie diet. It sounds like it's based on Weight Watchers.
I noticed one reader said they were cutting out fat. You need to learn which fats are good for you and which are bad. No, not all fats are bad. The monounsaturated fats are the fats your body burns for energy rather than depositing it in fat cells. These "MUFA"'s are very important to your diet and can be found in olives, olive oil, coconut oil, cold water fish, avocados and several other delicious foods. I don't know if they are considered negative calorie foods or not, but they will definitely help with weight loss and energy. Of course as with everything, moderation is key.

I was one who mentioned reducing fats, but I meant mostly the bad fats. Dont nuts have the good fats too? I love avocados, but even though its a good fat I limit them.

Yes, nuts do have good fats. Almonds and walnuts are especially good as they do a lot toward lowering cholesterol and controlling homocistines that can cause plaque build up. About 1 oz a day (or a handful) is a good measure and are best eaten between meals.

Thanks for the list. I am always trying to lose weight. I am not overweight, but I could be very easily. I like most of the foods listed, so that helps. I read most of the posts and the one link to the cabbage soup diet had grapefruit listed. I always thought that was a "negative calorie food" but I didn't see it in your discussion so I wasn't sure. The only thing on that list in the meat section that I eat is tuna. I hate other kinds of seafood! Lucky for me, I love all kinds of frui, but I don't eat as much as I should.
I have heard of diets that boost your metabolism, but I didn't know what they were called.

Sticking to fruits and vegetables is bound to be pretty healthy. I like a lot of these, but I also like potatoes. I do not like them fried, but cooked in the microwave. I need to try burning a few more calories, personally. I was surprised at some of the ones that were on your list, but not at others that were there.

I love potatoes too, but cut right down on them over a year ago. They are very starchy. Still, if they are cooked right (I microwave them too), there is very little fat.

I have never dieted - have never before felt the need to do so. However I must admit to having added a few kilos in the last year, but NOT from over eating!
We have always followed a very healthy diet, strong on fruit, vegies and nuts, and low in fats and sugar, but it seems as though I must now pay a little attention to more things to avoid and/or include.

I had never heard of this term "Negative Calorie Diet" but I did know that there are some food items which burn energy in your body thus resulting in increased metabolism. Now I know what the diet is called
The list is great and includes few of my favorite fruits and vegetables, now I will enjoy eating them without any fear!!

A few foods on that list I have eaten, some more then others. Some I've never tuched, etc. But I've never been able to lose weight just based on one simple diet. Mainly because I would lose for a while, but eventually gain it right back up.

The negative calorie isn't just about eating those foods. One can eat low fat meat, breads, etc.

Sorry maam..I don't think I believe that list straight. My reason is simply because each and everyone's body is unique. We can't simply dictate something isn't good for everybody that easily. I believe our tolerance level is different.

It is true that these negative calorie foods are high salicylate foods, which some people are intolerant or even allergic too. If that is what you meant.

I've read several reviews of negative calorie diets. Some people say they are a myth and others say they really work. I think if you eat lots of fruit and vegetables, like those in your lists, they will fill you up, you will eat less and you will lose weight.
Some of the non-fruit or vegetable negative calorie foods I have read about are hard-boiled eggs, shrimp, mussels, crab, oysters, bass and tuna.
I found a link to a forum about the cabbage soup diet (yuk!)where there is a "complete list" with a few more fruit and vegetables than you list.
Here's the link http://tiny.cc/LYuWS
