year in , year out, i clean my home, yet there are still cluttering. why, for example newspapers. we buy newspaper, read them and put them aside and by the weekend, there is a pile. if not clear out, the newspaper pile keep on increasing. the same with magazines, books, writing materials, cds, clothings etc. some of the books, magazines, cds, we tend to keep hoping to read them but most of the time, we dont read them at all or we dont have time to listen again. please share your thoughts with me?

I prefer a house where they aren't too many things. I only want to keep the things that I need and the things that I really like for instanse my favourite books or my favourite clothes, and I often donate old things to charity. My husband is completely different, he likes to keep all sorts of things, he and often tries to find cheap or free secondhand things online. When he reads about old furniture and things like that he always wants to buy it or pick it up, because he thinks that he might be able to use it. We tend to disagree about this subject

hie porcospino, most of the items i get rid from my house are mine. for the other members of the household, i put those items that are outdated or dont used for about 1 year, i negotiate with them whether they want or not. they will release magazines, books, wrapping papers, some clother that looks good when they tried in the store. once bought, used only once or twice as they dont feel comfortable etc. these items, i send for recycling or just give away.

I have a house full of clutter, and although I seem to be constantly clearing out the junk, I swear it breeds overnight. I recycle a lot of stuff, newspapers, cardboard, plastic, glass and the like but there is always far too much *stuff*

when my friends ask me' what am i doing at home?' i tell them that i am spring cleaning my home of clutters. nowadays i steer clear of sales so that i dont buy unneeded items though cheap. its rather frustrating to see my home beginning to clutter after i clear the stuff out a few months ago. still i have to carry on decluttering and throw out stuff into the garbage bins, the charity bins and giveaway bins. i have to be firm with myself and the other family members.

Make a rule that if something comes into the house then something else has to go. These days if you have a computer at home you can load all your cds onto it or an external hard drive and get rid of the cds.
What kind of magazines and books do you bring in? Is the information in them going to be useful in a few years time? If not, then you don't need to keep them. Perhaps arrange a magazine circle with friends - you buy one magazine and pass it to them and they buy another and give it to you, you get to read all the magazines but save money and only have one at a time.
If you aren't finding the time to read them then don't buy them at all. You are just paying to turn your house into a landfill site!

dear hvedra, i am so appreciative of your response. you know, my family keeps so many cds of music ranging from young to old. mine are mostly gospel cds. and i keep on buying them even though i can listen from this website : http://www.grace-intl.com/index.html. i now have to discipline myself to sit down at my computer and listen and at the same time do some stationaty house chores like folding clothes and writing bills etc. i just gave away last year reader digest, some did not finish reading. yeah, have to think . God bless

i hate clutter but our house looks like middle of the garbage! My 3 kittens can unbelievably move things when they play around. One like to pull down table cloth, the other kicking out what i placed on the rack, the other is in the habbit of tearing walls & papers she sees. Plus i have a small daughter who makes our livingroom her playground. Toys everywhere - believe me. I have already sent 9 big boxes full of things to my sisters & nieces/nephews... now is our basement a little airy. I can accumulate lots of papers too - but there is a monthly pick up (garbage) for this so it is manageable.
I think the trick that can work on this cluttering is cleaning up everyday aside from throwing out of unwanted things.

hie tigerlily, you know what when my children are growing up, i kept all my tablecloth and table runners. this is to avoid pulling down the food and stuff that are on the table. now my children are grown up, i do put on tablerunners and table cloth. i have a play pen for my children to play in designated area of the hall, yet the toys moves to other area of the home. tous have legs and hands hahaha!you are doing fine as long as you know what items to send off. keep it up.

I'm not like my husband. He will drag useless things from the dumpster and then bring them home. Then he'll get in a mood that says we need to de-clutter the apartment because its a pig stye. Only, he's the one that brings junk home. Junk that isn't needed, and eventually.... years later... finally gets discarted. Where as if its something of mine I put it in the trash without a second thought.
My problem with junk is I'm not motivated to want to mess with it. pure and simple.
