My favorite author has a new book out. I don't have the money to purchase it but my mom bought it. So now I have to wait until she finishes it so I can read it. I am reading another book by the same author that I borrowed from my daughter! I really don't like to lend my books out but I don't mind borrowing them! so you loan your books? do you read borrowed books?

After one of my book which i had loan out to my friend, but never see it returned to me, i decided not to loan out my book anymore. But, i do borrowed books for read, since i can save a lot of money but not buying any books. I buy books for reference purposes only. I am happy there is a bookstore nearby, where we can borrow the books that we want to read, by paying a very low fee. Sometimes, i still visit my nearby library to borrow some of the books of my interest to bring home to read.

Sounds good to me! I don't mind borrowing because I know I will return the book and I will treat it right. I do mark in my own books sometimes and if it's for reference I don't mind doing that!

I don't have money to purchase new books either, that's why I am waiting for my mom to finish the one I really want to read now!! I do like to purchase my own when I can and occasionally I reward myself with a new book purchase.

Theres a website I go on where you put up a list of books you want to get rid of and ones which you would like. You get requests off people for books you have and you can ask others for the books which you want. You just have to pay the post and packing for the books which you send out. I used to use the library quite a lot but prefer now to buy books or do this because it gives you more time to read them.

What's that site? That sounds like a really good idea, like a elibrary!

I prefer to buy books myself as well. I also feel hurried even if they say there's no hurry. A few novels I don't mind borrowing but for informational reading I like to put in on my shelf and keep it for reference.

I always borrow book from library, when I buy a book,I will put it on shelves and never take it back.Only borrowed book I will read it quickly.
I do not like the book lent to others, many people do not love books, you lend him books when he came back the book became a break!

Yes, if I ever do loan out a book it's either because I'm not too attached to it in case I do not get it back; or I trust the person to take care of it like I do!

I like a lot of different types of books. I am reading a couple of different books right now. I am usually working on two or three at a time. They are all different topics of course!

I don't mind borrowing library books. I am a visitor here though and may not be able to get a library card... I really prefer to purchase the books. I like to have a decent library myself.

I don't like borrowing for the same reason. However, right now I have no money so I don't mind reading my mom's book! I also know she will have finished it and she won't be in a hurry for it back. She usually doesn't read a book twice either, so I might end up with it on my shelf! Is that stealing??

I love to read, but am not fond of loaning out my books, unless it's to those I really trust, will return them. I'm just too afraid I'll never get them back, and in most cases, the books that I do have are out of print, and would be very difficult to replace.

Yeah, I collect classic Christian authors and those books are difficult to find. I would never loan out any of those. More modern novels and such I prefer to keep but I will loan out sometimes.

I've always loaned books and borrowed them. I have many many christian books, and the church I went to for many years, a book would get popular and everyone wanted to read it. I guess you all remember 'The Purpose Driven Life'. That was one.
But, I lost so many precious books that way.
Let me tell you what I did one time. I almost cried. There was this new couple at our church who had only been coming a short time and we had become as closed as you can just seeing each other at church for a short time. Well, she had some kind of surgery and was gonna be down a few weeks, so I took her my two very favorite christian books, and told her they could help her out to have something to do while she was down. I was loaning them to her, and she thought I gave them to her. I couldn't turn around and say, NO, NO, I was only lending them to you.
I could never find the one book again or one even close to it. Oh my goodness.
But I'm sure one of the many blessings I got were because of my letting her have them for keeps and not saying anything.

Oh man! I don't usually loan out the ones I want to keep! I only loan books out knowing that they may not be returned! I have a collection of Fuschia Pickett books and they don't leave my sight!

My mother, aunt, and I used to lend each other books all the time. We all really enjoy to read and we have way too many books, so when each of us finds a book that we like we try to share it with the others. We used this method for the Harry Potter books because they were all so expensive when they first came out, so we took turns buying the newest one and then shared it with the other two. It really sucked to have to wait until all of us read it, but at least it saved two of us quite a bit of money!
I think lending books is a good idea. I always think of all the books that I've bought that I never read anymore and how much easier it would've been if I had just borrowed it from someone! I would have a little more room in the house, too. LOL!

I really do not like lending anything of mine out to even my closest friends or family. However, if I did loan some things out, books would be at the bottom of the list. I like my books to be treated a certain way, with the respect and dignity that they deserve. When they are being loaned out, there is really no telling what condition they will make it back in. Or even if they will even make it back to begin with.
Of course, this road goes both ways with me. I do not really like borrowing books from other people to begin with. Or anything else, as while I am responsible enough, I would feel bad if something would happen to something that was under my care. I even do not like going to the library to check a book out and only do it when absolutely necessary.

I don't loan books that I want back. I either have a duplicate copy or don't need to keep in in my personal library for some reason or another. I am very careful with my books and others if I do end up borrowing them.

im not a big book reader to be fair but there has been times where i have lent books to my sister and shes has lent me some back, but that was quite a while ago. I suppose going to the library is basically lending books too and i really should go find a book to help me with my biology coursework :)

The library is a wonderful resource when you are in school. I used to go get high school text books at the library when I was studying upper level math and science. Sometimes it could break a topic down where I could understand it on a foundational level!

I haven't learned to read books online yet. I prefer the old school method of actually holding the book and turning the pages!

Hi macdingolinger, I will purchase books which are worth to keep after reading. They are both English and Chinese books, written by my favorite authors. Some are books of travel with lots of fascinating photos. I like to take them out enjoy rereading and looking at the attractive images in it. I feel reluctant to lend them to anyone for they are my precious treasure I had come across friends who had never returned books to me til now. But it doesn't matter if I still get the same book from the market. But, it's really sad that if the book is out of print publication at all
My son and nephew will pass books which they have read to me. Yeah, I still have quite a number that I haven't read yet. They are books from different authors. They are books of trading and investment in stock, science fiction, detective as well as novel.
Happy posting

No, I do not loan or borrow books. Well, I do check them out from the library if you want to count that as "borrowing", though I don't. Truthfully though, I don't remember anyone ever asking me to do so. If there's a book I want to read, I just check it out from the library or just buy it myself.

I have used the library for reading a lot. I am going to borrow a book from my mom and I'm reading a book I borrowed from my daughter. They have both read them and rarely reread books so I won't have to worry about hurrying!

I both loan books out and read borrowed books. I prefer to buy books new (hardcover if available) because I like having my own copy and knowing that I'd fed an author and their publishers, but of course I don't always have the money to do that. Most of the books I've borrowed from other people have been "forced borrows" as in, they handed me the book and told me I had to read it. I also use the library a lot.
I loan books out the same way (Hand them over and say 'You HAVE to read this!'), or if they request to read it when I'm done or something like that.

I've read library books a lot in my day. I do prefer to purchase the book myself as you said it pays the author. And as an author, I like to eat!

My books are like my children, I would never lend them out, my mother always told me you lend them and then they'll lend them to a friend and you'll never get them back.

That is probably a good policy! I have lost a few books before. I do have select books that I either have a duplicate copy which I may lend. I have some books that I wouldn't lend or loan for all the money in the world!

I don't like lending my books out. When I buy books from the book store it has to be the bloody most perfect one,no dents shelf wear ect... I'm really careful with my new books too so they don't get creases. If I lend them to people they will no longer be perfect...I love my perfect books.
