Of course you are not crazy, evasmom. It's prefectly all right for us to have fantasies of some kind. Well, if you are really keen to open your own zoo, I suggest you start off with playing a PC game by Microsoft. It's called the Zoo Tycoon. It's much more manageable than having a real zoo. Give it a try.

It doesn't sound "crazy"but I don't see the purpose. We lived on a farm but the point was to raise all of our own food, which we did! We had goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese and rabbits. We ate well. In addition we had a pretty good sized garden so we could raise fresh crops. I spent the summer months canning and freezing food so we could eat all through the winter.

I do not believe in raising animals just to kill them and eat...don't get me wrong i do love meat especially hamburger but i wouldnt get cows just to eat...I would however drink the milk

Of course you are not crazy. That's what I've been dreaming too, to live back in the farm (I grew up in a farm, actually). Life in a farm is more easy, relax, peaceful and no complication. If that's what you've been dreaming all your life, then go with it, there's nothing more extraordinary than living in our own dreams. That's a good choice.

I think it's a great idea. You need to be fairly close to a decent size city for it to pay off. I also agree with macdingolinger. You need to plant your own crops. Two reasons: 1)You need to make this endeavor as self-sustaining as possible. 2) To illustrate the importance of farms and educate people about the animals and where food comes from. It doesn't have to be on a grand scale. Just big enough to make a point. If you cater to city schools you can gain word of mouth marketing, get tax write offs, and if you do the research you may even find a few small grants to assist you. It would be a lot of hard work, but rewarding. If you just want to live on a farm and play with a few animals then it's a lovely thought, but probably not realistic. Of course, I don't know what your financial situation is. If you're wealthy, or win the lottery then go for it. I'll visit:)
