I am curious to know how many churches are in your area. Are they the same denomination or are they different? There are a lot of churches in my area...10 at least within a 5 mile radius. They are different in their denominations. There are Baptist,Methodist,Catholic,Presbyterian,Jehovah's Witness, and what they call non-denominational churches. How about your area?

There are loads of churches here. My area is sometimes referred to as the "Bible Belt". For a long time I didn't realize there was a huge difference in the availability of religion. Thanks for responding.

There are not enough churches in my area at all. There maybe two one being Catholic and the other Presbyterian. Its very discouraging trying to find a good church in my area. When I lived in New York I was able to walk to my church every Sunday morning. That is one of many things I miss since moving to New Mexico.

I think those denominations are very popular in that area. I bet that would be very hard to move from where church was that close to having very limited availability. Thanks for the response.

I live in a large city and there are literally hundreds of churches around here. The closest one is a Catholic church about 1 1/2 blocks away. There are all kinds of churches here.

Larger places tend to have more churches. I wouldn't have even thought about it but my boyfriend mentioned that there were alot here compared to where he was from. Thanks for the response.

I would have to say 15 to 20, in my little town of 6,000 people. In one small village that I lived in, there were 300 people and four active churches. Now that town has 100 residents and 3 active churches. Here, Catholic, Jevhovah's Witness, LDS, Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist, Free Methodist, and I've been told there is a synagogue, but I've never been able to confirm this. There are also a couple of alternative worship circles/centers. There are people here that practice Wiccan and pagan customs, we have some African religions floating around (I don't know specifics, sorry) and that some people here practice Santeria as well.

Since I live about 15 minutes out of town, there are NO churches within a 5-mile radius of me. But now give me a 15-mile radius and there are a boat load of all denominations -- mostly Christian.

Good morning Jen, it's about the same around here.i counted 10 just off the top of my head. There is more baptist than any because they had a hard time getting along w/each other & everytime they didn't they'd leave & start another church. Hope u have a good weekend.

Funny, how I've always heard that my town has 'a church on every street-corner' (like STARBUCKS, they are); but I can't really remember more than 5-or-10 of `em! I 'Search'ed it, and I'm opening the page that should tell me right now http://search.mylot.com/search.aspx?t=web&k=how+many+churches+in+oklahoma+city but my browser is practically FROZEN it's loading so slow (I'm typing this even faster than my browser can comprehend ... and I'M FRICKIN` RET@RDED! typing-wise, anyway ) ... Nothin-to-do, so I waited it out What!? Oh, churches in Oklahoma City! UsaChurches.com lines it up here like I imagine they do for ALL the cities in the US: Anglican Churches (0) Foursquare (0) Apostolic Churches (6) Lutheran Churches (15) Assembly of God (26) Mennonite Churches (4) Baptist Churches (300) Messianic Churches (0) Bible Churches (8) Methodist Churches (65) Brethren Churches (1) Nazarene Churches (26) Calvary Chapel (2) Non-Denominational (75) Catholic Churches (19) Orthodox Churches (4) Christian Churches (46) Pentecostal (23) Church of Christ (70) Presbyterian (29) Church of God (68) Reformed Churches (3) Congregational (1) Seventh Day Adventist (14) Episcopal Churches (16) Vineyard Churches (1) Evangelical (11) Other Churches (37) So---in-short, more than I want to count!

I have alot of churches in my area too. Catholic, Presbyterian, Seventh Day Adventist's and Jehovah's Witness, Methodist, Baptist, Mormon, and a Jewish one. We have a big, obnoxious Mormon Temple here as well. The Catholic church close by here has just finished a long redo of their church and it turned out just beautiful. They kept with the brick exterior and widened the chapel. They also have a beautiful steaple now of copper. They used to have a large peice of ground across the street that they used for athletic things. They sold it afew years ago.

Well, I am about one state away from Utah so I get about all the Mormon 'embellishments' I can stand! I like the catholic churches though and was empressed by the jewish synogogue.

I have seen some amazing Catholic churches. There are a lot of Baptist churches here that are embellished too. I have never seen a Mormon temple before. I do know they are here though. I have seen them more on the western part of this state though.

We have a lot of churches about the place but in my immediate area there are only three that I can think nearby. I think that they are all different denominations. My father in law loves churches, not just going to the mass but admiring the structures etc. If he comes to visit us from the other side of the country where he lives the first thing he does is go for really long walks and check out the churches.

I love the structures too. I have thought that the next thing I oil paint will be a church. There are some more modern churches in my area that don't seem to have the same appeal as the older more decadent structures. Thanks for responding.

I live in a small hamlet, so there are not many churches around. There is a one church inside the hamlet and another one lies in 3 miles from there. It's a very old church and distant too, so there isn't much of activity inside it.

I was very very surprised when I moved down here to North Carolina that they have so few churches compared to the Boston area. In Boston, you can't go a mile without seeing some church or synagogue. Here, there are maybe 2 in a 5 mile radius and that still amazes me! I'd have thought since I always heard the South was the bible belt that there would be many many more!

I do not have many churches in my area Just two U know I live in Mumbai, India and it is a predominantly Hindu area So having even 1 church in a 5 mile radius is like an oasis in the Desert I'm lucky to have 2 Both are purely Catholic

An oasis in the desert is a very descriptive term and fits wonderfully with the way that people might refer to churches when there are few of them. Thanks for the response.

AS far as I am concerned, there is just few churches in my area. For here, many people just do not believe in the churches. They may usually believe in the Temple,or something else. They usually go the temple in the high mountains or in the far away areas. They just believe that the buddha can help them. Have a nice time.

I would consider those "churches" too. I guess I should have said place of worship instead of churches. Are all the temples far away from your area?

What do you think is confusing the people? I think that it could be very confusing if someone was new to religion to chose where they wanted to go if they decided but alot of times they are raised within a certain belief and kind of stays within it. There are a lot of times that people change their church when they grow old enough to choose.

I live in a relatively old city full of monuments and churches, most of them are catholic churches and many times there are 3 or 4 in a very small range. Just to give you an example : 3 minutes from my house there is the cathedral and about 20m to the left there is a small church and some others very close by. I can say we have many many churches, maybe too many.

You would not be the forst to feel that way. I realize that there needs to be enough to give the people what they need but there is a time when it becomes to many for an area. Thanks for the response.
