Does it bother You to see a Different Flag Hanging on a Car mirror?

I put this question out to mylotters: When you see a different country's flag hanging from a car mirror, or a decal sticker, do you think it is unpatriotic? Do you think they should have the American flag there instead? I was just wondering what your thoughts were.

i don't think it is unpatriotic. you see, i have a friend in the canada and when she comes back, she brought a lot of stickers and pins bearing the flag of canada. some of my friends go travel to places like singapore, hong kong and they bring in goodies from those places like key chains, shirts, etc. wearing those stuffs or displaying them, don't mean you are not loyal anymore to your country. i guess, that only means you are proud that you had been there or something.

Interesting point. I have never traveled to a foreign country. Part of me wonders if I could stand being on a plane that long. Not to mention jetlag.

When we're talking decorative...no, I'm not offended. Everyone should be free to express themselves and to be proud of their heritage so bumper stickers, things hanging in cars...not a problem for me. I am offended when I see the flag of a foreign country hanging above the American flag in front of a business, or the foreign flag being flown alone though.

I just thought of something. How do you feel about the Confederate flag? When you see that, do you think of racism, or just the South? Because that's not a flag for a different country, but it certainly is controversial.

I don't feel that a flag on a car is indicative of anything other than a decoration these days. Here in the UK we have people sporting union jacks, st.andrews cross, welsh dragons, jamaican flags, irish flags, well you get the idea hun.

i think... its their personal thing... no one has any rights to interfere in it as long as they do not insult other nation's pride...

here in the u.k we have just finished 'celebrating' the world cup so all flags of every competing nation were being shown in pubs, shops, worn as football shirts and of course from cars. not unpatriotic just a celebration of everyone coming together in the celebration of 'the beautiful game'.

No, it doesn't bother me. I've never really thought about it. I've seen the Israeli flag on several cars before. I thought it was kind of cool. I really don't think there is anything unpatriotic of the person. Just because they have strong emotion towards another country besides America, doesn't mean they love America itself any less.

Here i don't see people using the national flag as decorative piece on their cars, probably it is not allowed legally, only the once i saw it long back in 1957 when the then prime minister visited my place.. But i have seen people having small flags, just decorative, fixed on the car bonnet.. Thanks for sharing. Welcome always. Cheers. Professor

Since this is America, made up of many cultures and beliefs, I don't have a problem with small flags on mirrors--i.e., rear-view. What I do have a problem with though are those who have GIGANTIC flags flying out of windows or draped across their car's front hoods, and sometimes for days on end in celebration of something that pertains almost exclusively to their native country's history. Rarely if EVER do you see an American flag flying along side these flags, as if they are saying that America is insignificant. If you live in this country--the United States, legal or not, shouldn't you have some respect for the country that you are literally living off of and benefiting from??? If you feel so proud of your native country that you have to spit on or burn the American flag during your "celebrations", then by all means--go back to your native country. At one time, you would have been considered a traitor, faced legal ramifications, and could have been deported for such actions. Today, the American flag has been reduced to a rag on a pole in some cases. The over-use of foreign flags only sends a message that those who do so hate the United States. If that is the case, WHY ARE YOU HERE ANYWAY??? Many of these abusers always seem to DEMAND respect, but rarely if ever want to give or SHOW respect to America. Respect, like love, is a two-way street. If you want to be embraced and accepted by this country, then become an American citizen and stand behind the flag it represents. Stop trying to shove your country down American's throats. Otherwise, you can always go back to YOUR beloved and benevolent country, right? Fly the American flag in the meantime.
