I used to brush thrice a day, after every meal, but recently, I only have two meals per day so I just brush twice. I have small snacks in between but I don't think it will be a good thing if I'll brush more than thrice daily. According to my dentist, we should not brush with really hard strokes because doing so will scratch our teeth and hurt our gums badly which will lead to bleeding. That happened to me before and I already learned my lesson.

Brushing twice means once at bed time once in the morning, which is very good habit. It keeps your teeth clean and prevents any bacterial problem. It does not harm gums as far as I know.I have seen people using floss,to clean the teeth after the meal, which is also good for keeping teeth healthy.

I try to brush my teeth twice a day, but I usually just brush once. I dont think it is all that of a big deal as some people make it out to be. The dentist wants you to brush after every meal, because foods can get stuck in your teeth then that causes cavities and so on. Well depending on you thoughts brush how many times you think is right.
