Do you like to play hooky?
When was the last time you called in sick? Where you really sick?
I don't usually get sick. And even if I am not feeling well, I still go to work. We do have 'sick-leaves' at work, but I usually reserve those for family matters.
The last time I did not go to work, my oldest son did not have a class. I was feeling lazy after a very hectic previous day, so I called in sick. Me and the kids went downtown and made a day of it. We just ate at the mall, had some kiddie rides, and bought some fancy desserts.
If you're playing hooky, what would you normally do?

A mental health day for you and your boys..very nice and a memory for them. Since I don't have a job outside the home I don't have to worry about what to tell the boss. Last month after a snow storm the kids had a day off of school and I blew off all my chores and routines and we watched movies, played board games and ate a ton of popcorn, we also stayed in our pjs all day. It was a great day.

That sounds like it was a great day jewels, and I bet it meant the world to your kids to have mom's attention all day when you had chores and household routines that you could have been doing but blew off to spend the time with them! That's so sweet!

I don't think I would have either if I were in your shoes ... None can put a price tag on spending time with your kids. When I was a kid my mum stayed home with us and my dad was always away on business trips and at work till all hours of the morning (he was a SERIOUS work-a-holic) so I never want my kids to feel how my dad made me feel (like work and money were more important, or he'd arrange a time for us to do something and then blow me off for work).

Hi bounce. I remember calling in sick last April. I wasn't really sick, I just encountered a really bad traffic at the expressway. I skipped work and rested on my room. I spent the day being lazy and making calls to people whom I haven't talked to for several months, just to catch up. It was fun because I miss being a couch potato. :-)

Oh I could understand the traffic in the expressway. Although I go the opposite lane, I know how it is if it gets bad. It was already bad a few years ago, so I could just imagine how it is right now.
That's the best kind of day. I bet it was a pleasant surprise. Just to catch up with old friends. And then we wonder how come we don't do it often. Just part of being responsible I guess.
Thanks.

I seldom get sick either! The last time I called in sick was while I was pregnant with my now 5 month old. Pregnancy is a VERY exhausting time for a woman as her body is going through a TON of changes and supporting a new life. Anyways, I had worked my usual Tuesday night shift (10pm - 6am) and when I got home I headed straight to bed. My hubby was up as he always left for work at 6:30 because he started at 7 am. I think it was only about 2 hours later that I was woken up by a "Good Morning Mommy!" I looked at my daughter standing in front of me, looked at the clock that said 9:26 am and I rolled my eyes, said good morning and got up. Then my boss called a couple of hours later and said that she needed me to come in and work from 6pm to midnight! I said to her I can't I'm sorry I'm sick! I wasn't sick I was just really frickin' tired. My daughter was done with her naps so she was up ALL day and driving me crazy, my hubby got home at 5pm, we ate supper, and I was in bed by 9 pm. I then told my boss that I couldn't work the night shift anymore, she PROMISED me that she would arrange the schedule accordingly because I told her I was pregnant and needed my rest! The next week I went over the schedule and it was still night shifts so after talking it over with my husband I ended up quitting as I couldn't keep doing it anymore. BUT the only MAJOR problem was shortly after that my husband got laid off from work so here we were expecting a second (and last) child and we were living on Unemployment! TONS of fun! Needless to say 2009 was a VERY stressful year after the lay off!

I would have said that calling in sick was good for you, if only your boss made good of her promise to change your shift. Maybe in the future, you would look back, and still say that it was good, as it forced you to stop working the night shift. Which meant having a healthy baby!
I say the future, because we all still have to overcome this recession. I hope 2010 brings better luck for you and your family!

I seldom get sick. but if i don't wanna go to work or school, call in sick is a really good excuse. Strangely, i call in headache, i will have a headache next day, or i call in other problems, i will have that problem next day. haha, really interesting.

I havent called in sick for years without needing it, I did have one job about 3-4 yrs ago where I had pretty much no responsibility, so no-one was really relying on me, and one day I really couldnt be bothered so phoned in sick saying I had been throwing up all night, then went down to my mothers house, problem is there were tv cameras in town for some reason and I lived in town, so had to dodge them all while I was walking to the bus stop, just incase someone saw me on there, not looking sick at all lol!

I have heard funny stories about that. People playing hooky and being caught in the most public way. Wouldn't that be hilarious if your picture showed up in the paper for a totally different reason?!
But that job you described, it sounds very interesting. Having no responsibility, yet still get paid.
Thanks!

Well ok I guess I did have a bit of responsibility, the only responsibility I had was to actually turn up, I was working in a factory on a production line, so it just meant that there was one less person on the line, the difference in my other jobs is that if I didnt go to work, then things didnt get done. So this factory job I didnt actually care about, I went there, did my job and that was it. It would have been very funny if I was seen on TV just a few hours after I was supposed to be really sick. I did have a friend who has been through nearly every excuse available to pull a sickie, he has even created operations! He did eventually get caught out though!

Last time I called in sick my son was home with a cold, his sister was home with nausea, I was tired, and I had two doctor's appointments to get to, one for me, one for my daughter. So I really wasn't playing hookey. It's been a long time since I've played hookey. Not enough sick/vacation time to cover that sort of thing...

I think I did it a month ago. haha! I usually have stomachaches in the morning and at that time I was suppose to have a make up class online but I told the supervisor that I was sick that's why I can have the class with the student. I was not sick at all and I made excuses because I was really lazy to go there. I just didnt think that it was the best time for me to do it because it was on a weekend they scheduled a make up class for me which I didnt like. I always make excuses if there are things that they do in the company where I work. I dont like complying with them especially if I only knew I need to do something at the 11th hour.

Even if you were just lazy, if you didn't held up anybody at school or at work, then I excuse you. Sometimes we get these 'lzay days'. As long as we don't make anybody pay for our own laziness, I guess it is still OK. School or work will go on even without you.
Thanks for the response.

The last time I play hooky is back when I was still in high school 5 years ago, I play hooky because I don't want to share my report about a certain topic that was assigned to me, I wasn't ready for it because it was due tomorrow and I haven't yet study for it so I played hooky I was good at it because I was good in acting and my mom was convinced about it. hehe ^ ^ but now I don't do it anymore because I already finish my education in college maybe someday if I'm able to work still I play hooky don't know if I still have the skills to do it hehe ^ ^
