in our family we are split in the middle we have 3 of each on one side we have my dad and my sister and my brother in law that smoke and we have mom and me and my little niece who is a little more then 2 and i try to keep her away from the smoking as much as i can.
do you have this in your family?
do you have both or one or the other?
does it cause any problems?
I just never could stand the smell of smoke not to mention what it does to your teeth yikes.
one time when i was i think in my early teens we were at something for a local fire company which we had to go into a bar and it was so smoky in there it burned my eyes and that was all i needed to know i wanted no part of that or bars for that matter.

I hate smoking. I really hate that people who smoke are not considerate of people who do not. I used to drag on a ciggarette when I was young not realizing you had to actually breathe in the smoke which is probably what saved me from becoming a real smoker. The reason I even tried it in the first place was because of family members smoking. When I was really little my cousin gave me a ciggarette and I thought it was awful, but that did not stop me from trying again when I was older.

well i am glad that you were able to quit that can not always be easy to do and since 3 of our family does it i am glad that i didn't ever do that, but at least i have my mom as a good example not to do it and since she has asthma not a good thing for her to be around that and i can't stand the smoke either.

LOL, I quit because I never started! I never inhaled and I did not know I was not smoking until all that controversy about Clinton not inhaling and suddenly it hit me that I never had either! It's hilarious to me now and I am thankful it was never regular behavior or I might have figured out I wasn't really smoking and tried it for real.

That's why I stopped going to bars. But then they passed a law prohibiting smoking in public places so it wasn't that bad. Could still smell the smoke residue in some of those places that were frequented by heavy smokers at first but they eventually aired out. I don't go to bars now because I can't afford to.

yes i am glad that they have made it so you don't smoke inside, because that is hard on me to breathe when it is like that and the smoke can get so bad that i can't see.
I know that the part of the family that does smoke is kind of annoyed by it. but when it is nice out its an excuse to go outside and enjoy some fresh air.
I even remember when we went bowling just me and my friends it would be pretty bad in there too.

I remember getting a donut from a donut shop one time and it tasted like smoke.

we have a small family here just 4 in the immediate family then add in my brother in law so 3 that smoke and 2 that don't.
it was just something that never interested me even though my dad did it and i think my sister started, because she saw dad doing it so in that way i guess i made the right choice not to follow in dad's footsteps.
I also can't stand the smell of it so that made the choice not to do pretty easy too.

My family are non-smokers ever since I was younger. Never went through the phase of having to go elsewhere due to smoke and I am thankful for that. But now that I am with my in-laws, they are the opposite. Back then they all were smokers but after a few years only two of them smoke and it is still bad for my son and my hubby who gets sick more than I am.

Well, we only have one smoker in the family - my husband.
Since he cannot give up smoking yet then the deal is to lessen. No smoking inside the house. He needs to go out that the kids won't smell/inhale the smoke.

well as long as he respects the rest of you and does it outside then at least that is a little better then inside where the smell can get all over everything.
i heard that breathing in the smoke is just as bad as if you were actually the one smoking so at least the kids don't have to do that so that is good.

In my family, my wife used to smoke before we got married. when we started getting serious, she stopped. I did not have to ask her to stop since she knew I do not smoke. I used to smoke when I was in High school and college though. But I was able to stop it after college. A test of will power.

yes, we do have smokers and non-smokers member in my family as well... my father and my younger brother are the smokers while my mum, my elder brother and me myself couldn't stand the smell of the smoke at all... so we always try to stay away from them as much as we can when they just finish smoking... my mum used to nag my dad a lot to give up smoking... but it is just too hard for him... fortunately, my younger brother had given up smoking now... take care and have a nice day...

well that is good that your brother quit hope he can stick with it i know that can be hard.
I am also that way where the smoke smell gets to me.
my lady's mom smokes she always does it outside, but when she comes back in she reeks of the smoke smell it is really bad and it bothers both of us.

Our family has been totally smoke free for years already. I have never started smoking, neither my sister. My parents quit smoking for many years ago, because they realized it's bad for their health and also affects in a negative way the children in family.

well that is good that they were able to quit as i see smoking as one of those addictive behaviors so anytime you can get out of that habit it can only be a good thing as long as you can stick to it.
I never tried it and i never would seeing how badly i am affected by it tells me i made the right choice.

In my family only my mother smokes, she smokes out in the garden or at the garden door. It doesn't really bother me or anyone else in the house, except from my little sister who wants her to quit smoking.
I think I'm just used to seeing my mother smoke since she was a smoker before I was even born.

my mom has asthma so no worry about her smoking so she has to keep away from my dad when he is smoking, because it will cause her symptoms to act up a bit.
As long as they are considerate enough to do it outside i guess that is it not that big a problem as if they were doing it around everyone.
I think i dated one girl that smoked, but she was considerate enough of me to never do it around me so that was nice.

I'm fortunate, as in my family nobody smokes. The problem is when a visit comes to my family's home, as many of them want to smoke and that is strictly forbidden in that house. That's because, of course, nobody wants to have a smelly house, and tabaco makes everything smell bad, but even so they complain. If someone from my family did something to make their home smell bad they would complain too, so sometimes I wish they would use their brains a little more

yeah i can't blame them for not wanted their house to smell like smoke if they want to do that make them take it outside always respect the wishes of the ones that own the house.
doesn't make sense they don't want the smell in their house, but they want to take in into yours not much common sense there is it.
if i owned the house no one would be smoking in it that is a guarantee i would make them go outside too.

in my family, only me and my father smoke. but i have kind of given up. i don't smoke at home and they don't know that i smoke. i have two elder brothers and none of them smoke(i'm the youngest member). i used to smoke while away from home and hanging out with friends. my father has been smoking for so many years that he won't be able to quit. he's over 60 years of age now. but the good thing is he does all sorts of exercises whenever he gets the opportunity so he stays healthy.
i started smoking some 5-6 years back and had become a heavy smoker in between. but i've been smoking rarely for the past couple of years. i go days without smoking also. it's as good as quitting now. i sometimes smoke while with friends or drinking. that's it. even i don't like the smell while others smoke!

i have heard of you are going to try to quit that you should do it gradually so I'm sure that is not easy to do.
my dad is the same way been smoking for my whole life so i just stay away from him when he is cause i can't stand the smell of it.
for some smoking is kind of a social thing they do it cause their friends do it so i can understand that a little i just can't handle it myself cause the smoke gets to me after a while so i just avoid those places.
I wish you luck in smoking less or quitting all the way.

hell0! well, in my family we are 3 on 1 :) and the non-smokers win :)
in my family only my dad is a smoker, but he smokes from many years, maybe more than 30, but now he is trying to quit them, because they are really expensive now and will get even more, but it is really hard for him.
we have never had problems with him as a smoker, because when he want to smoke he goes on the terrace, because inside it is forbidden :).

When I lived with my parents we were 3 smokers and 1 non-smoker. We've never been smoked in home, we go out on the balcony to do that. I was a smoker, but I didn't like the room to smell bad especially if you sleep in that room it's not a pleasure at all. And the wall-papers and furniture take the smoke and it smells bad for very long time. So we just did that activity out.

well at least you went outside to do it so that it didn't make the house all smoky that is definitely a good thing and it is nicer for the other that doesn't smoke that you went outside a very considerate thing to do and yes i can see where having the smoke smell all over stuff could be bad too.

As for my family, all of us do smoke,it's hard because I really wanted to quit, the problem is, even if I want to, I could see them everyday smoking, so quitting is out of my mind right now.
