I went to the store with my kids yesterday. And bumped into this person and she started saying "Hi, How are you?". And OOPS, I can't remember her name at all. The only thing I remember that her daughter went to the same preschool that my daughter went back 2 years ago. So we were still talking a little bit for 2 or 3 minutes. And God I still don't remember her name. So I asked her if I can have her phone number, so I can call her to set up a playdate with our daughters. I put her number in my cell, and I asked her HOW TO SPELL her name...LOL, talking about "dodging" the embarassment for not remembering her name...and got it Meredith that's her name. Is it ever happen to you?

I've had this happen so many times. It's definitely NOT a sign of getting older lol. I am so much better at remembering faces so I agree that it was clever for you to ask how to spell her name. As previously said, I'll usually refer to them as "man" or "bro" and hopefully sometime during the conversation I'll pick up on their name. It's too bad I can't think of clever ways to remember someone's name. Sometimes I have just got the guts to admit the fact to them and explain it's been so long, but I know that's not the best thing to do in that situation. What else can I do to try and get their name so there isn't any embarrassment???

Thank you, that's the only thing I came up to cover the fact I really didn't remember her name. It's just hard sometimes when you getting older, and meet too many people. And plus if you have kids like me, you have to try to remember the name of people in their life too.

You're welcome! I've met way too many people in my life to remember all of their names. As far as kids, I'm not looking forward to having to remember the names of the people in their life too lol. I have way too much going on right now to take on that task let alone having a child at the moment. I'm sure it will be fine, but it's fear of the unknown that gets me. :P

This has happened many a times for me and man is it embarassing. We start beating around the bush to somehow get their name. lol. There are at times wherein even after completing the conversation we would remain completely blank not remembering the names.

Haha. Thats funny and I think something which happens to a lot of people. You were in one way very clever in asking how to spell her name but I cant help but wonder if you would have been more embarrased if her name had been Sarah or Lisa ega nd you had aksed how to spell it :)

I'm sure this has happened to most people at one time or another. I would just say, "I'm sorry but I forgot your name" if someone said that to me I wouldn't be upset. I usually recognize a face before a name myself. Instead of standing there feeling uneasy and trying to remember her name I would have just came out and asked.

Me too..I'm quite bad remembering people's names..I really do...I guess it's easier for me to remember them by associating them with something..something that I can remember easily..

I always try to do that associate them with something. It's just getting too much.. Like Jen or Jennifer, one from my daughter girl scout, 2 from church, other one from my other daughter friend...yikes...

I have had this same problem before and it frustrates me so much. The thing that is even worse for me is when someone says hi to me and I cannot for the life of me figure out where I know them from. I know that I have met them somewhere but, cannot place where it is. It will bug me and I will keep thinking about it and trying to figure out where I know them from. I do not want to ask the person where I know them from because they obviously remember me and are talking to me. I either eventually figure it out after I keep thinking about it or it will continue to bother me for awhile. It is so frustrating. The same is the case with someone whose name I cannot remember for the life of me. It continues to bother me until I figure it out or a great deal of time has passed.

I've been in that situation too. Not only I couldn't figure out the name but also I couldn't remember where did I meet this person. I might never met them again, but sure will bug me for days to solve the mysteri.

I've totally forgotten people's names before. I saw someone two days ago who I recognized, but honestly couldn't remember her name or where I saw her. I remember talking to her quite a bit, though... I think she was in one of my classes. Anyway, it seems to happen quite a bit to me...

Yes,that's really funny. I had same experience like this. She's our neighbor, actually, she becomes close to me,until they moved out to other place. Then, one day,we've met at one popular fast food chains, and she approaches me. Gosh,we've been talking for a while, asking updates of our lives, and i can't remember her name. I also asks her number for another possible met-up or visit at home, then, when she left,i asked my son in whispers...can you remember her name?,and my son rapidly replied me with "she's Sonia mom "

It happens to me a lot but I ask for the person to remind me his/her name. My usual excuse, I am not good with names, which by the way is true

Only just about all the time. The most recent was when I went to the grocery store and ran into someone that I went to high school with. I looked at her and knew that I knew the girl from somewhere. And she said hi to me and spoke to me by name. I had to ask her who she was. Now, in my defense, I did graduate from high school 12 years ago, and this was the first time that I've seen her since we graduated.

Yeah, happened a lot a few years ago when I was loads more sociable than these days. Thank god for the words 'dude','bro' and 'man' lol ;)

It has happened to me too, but not only the name, I even had forgotten the face! This dude came to me and started talking so casually, like "hey, it's been a while!" and I tried to hide that I couldn't remember who the heck was he . After he left I had to ask one of my friends to know
