What's wrong with Laura, I think it's a really nice name. At the end of the day it's up to you but so ,ong as you get all of your personal documents changed then it shouldn't cause much of a problem. I don't personally know anyone who changed thier first name, but if it's going to make you happier, discuss it with your parents and make the change.

I have a daughter called Laura but she gets called lots of different names ie Looby, Loz. Do you have a middle name? Maybe you could go by that name? My brother goes by his middle name rather than his first name as he hates it!

Although my name is not special, but I don't hate it at all. I have no plans to change my name because everything will be much more troublesome. Such as I have to change my name for the ID card, bank account, certificate etc. By the way, I personally think Laura is a very nice name:)
I love China

Personally, I don't have an issue with my name. I think if it makes a person happier, sure, change your name. I know someone who changed their first name. His given name was Ernest, people called him Ernie. He hated it. Around the time he graduated high school, he changed it to Aaron.

My name is ranadheer which means a warrior in my local language.I love my name a lot and never want to change it. I am happier with my name and I thank my parents who gave me this wonderful name. Laurel is a good name and I feel It is better than Stella. Of course its your choice to change if you don't like your name. May be after some time you won't like even Stella.

if you really don't like it then why not change it.
I know people who have changed their first names, when they felt that their name wasn't true to them.
I love my first names (got three of them. hehe) but when I was quite young I decided that I didn't want my dads surname, I wanted my mums surname instead, and had it legally changed.
it's never caused me any trouble.

Laura is an alright name. personally I prefer it to Stella. When i think of Stella, I think of the lager drink haha. My name is Donna Marie and I kinda like it because Ive always had some people call me Donna Marie and some call me Donna, so its fun having two names :). My mam actually didnt like Donna or Marie so in her wisdom put together two names she didnt like lol.

in my country we dont have option to change our name as we based our birth certificate to all our public documents. but i guess in other country they can, like from male to female name like those gay people there. besides why would i change my name if everyone knows me with my name since i was a child. if i change my name its just like im trying to forget everything and everyone since childhood. if my parents give me my name then i will love and appreciate it coz it was them who gave me, if i want a new name then i will save it for my kids and let them use it instead.

i don't think that it is right to change the name that was given by the person who gave life to you, by doing these your just showing to many people that you don't love the person behind it.. me? it never comes out in my mind that i would change the name that was given to me by my beloved parents, in fact i was really proud and thankful of having this name of mine...

I actually thought of changing my English name because when I came to Canada, the kids and teachers at my Elementary school couldn't pronounce my name, so my dad ignorantly asked the secretary to name my sister, brother and me. I don't know why he did that, but perhaps it was because my name wasn't thought through that made me feel somewhat of a resentment towards it. I like my original Vietnamese name so it's not a big deal there.
I do believe it is weird to change your name though. It's like changing yourself into a whole new person. It's a lot of work because you would have to keep repeating your new name to your group of friends, families and coworkers or colleagues. Not to mention the process of the paper works as well.
I had a friend who changed her name from Amy to Mimi and to be honest, I was rather shocked and I am still not used to call her by that name. Secretly she will always be Amy to me because I've always known her as Amy. You can try changing your names when you make new friends and see how much you will like it. If it sticks to you, then start spreading that name towards your old group of friends. =)

Hi punk,
Many people believe that there is something attached with our names and therefore among Hindus there is a ritual of naming. However one could opt for something else when getting admitted to school but the real name that is there in the horoscope is what is called official name.
I have seen many people changing their names through legal procedure. But what I feel is that once you are known among people with a particular name this is useless to go for something else later on.
Anyway, what is there is name? What speaks more is your action and your being what and who you are.
