Hello friends! I guess we all have heard about the new mobile phones called "smartphones", but do you actually know what they are and do you have one?

I am probably one of the few people left (at least in the US) that doesn't have a cell phone. I have heard of 'smartphones" but I am not sure what they do that is different from the other phones. It is very rare to have a phone that just makes calls. Phones nowdays seem to do everything, so it would seem they all are "smarphones"

I don't feel I need a cell phone. Also, I can't afford another bill and it is really not necessary. I am usually at home and use the landline anyway.

Yes I do know what they are, and yes I have one. A smartphone is just another name for a phone that has the capabilities that a computer has. It has an operating system, and you can download different applications to it. You can also download a different browser to it if you want to. It basically has lots more features than a simple phone would have as well. I have a Samsung Omnia 11 and I really do enjoy it, as I have been downloading different apps for it, which really can't be done on simple phones. Usually smartphones have the Windows Mobile Operating System. I am enjoying my smartphone a lot and I am glad that I bought it. Take care, and have a very good day.

they are really the phone which can be used partially instead of your pc.
in my view you can use your phone like a computer in many normal computer work.they have many functionalities as camera, touch screen, music player and os which is compatible with many applications.

Yes I do and yes I have. My last few phones have been smart phones. Now a days a "smart phone" is more common then a general "mobile" phone. Basically any phone capable of doing multable fuctions aside from calling and basic text messaging is considered a "smart" phone. And, I'm proud to say that I've owned one for years and don't settle for less.

i wont call them new as nokia 6600 was also a "smartphone" as it has already been mentioned that there is no specific standard to categorize a phone as smartphone.....as the motorola linux phone series is a smartphone series but you just cant download any specific "Smartphone type" appication for it just java is available....so according to me "Smartphones are mobile phones which perform just like a computer that is they have ram and a proper processor, some have dedicated graphic memory...they have a proper OS which can run applications made on C++ platform and you can install codecs and players for playing different file types...."
now this is just my definition for smartphones as of owning my first mobile nokia 6600 was a smartphone and mow im having a n72 and am probably going to buy either a omnia pro or a n97 as my new phone.....

Smart phone means a phone with many feature like computer.
But i don't have this kind of mobile phone. As it's too expensive.
And now i am a student only. I don't earn any money.
When i will then i will buy for my family.

I must say that the iPhone is a good smartphone. I also have it and there are actually tons and tons of available apps for it such as for productivity, games, entertainment and so much more. The popularity of smartphones on the market are impressive and they are truly much more growing compared to the previous years.
