Do you fall in love with other people's pets?

Ninja, a big dog with a big heart. - This is moondancer's beloved dog. And recently her avatar. |Please don't report me for using it. Instead, spare a thought for her pain and loss. Thank you.

I do. I'm crazy about our Gissi whose stories you read about here all the time. I can hardly wait to finally meet him and his mum. And my own Spunky girl licks the screen every time she's sees a picture of our own moon dancer's Ninja. She also licks the avatars of you all, but that's another discussion. Internet love is alive and being slobbered over. lol But sadly, Ninja is not. As some of you know moon's dog Ninja contracted cancer. Finally on Monday of this week, it was decided his suffering had to end, and his mum had to 'do the deed'. She had him cremated afterwards and the vet put him in a beautiful box with a plate with his name on it, and now our moon dancer is trying to cope with his passing and his loss. So for all of you pet lover's out there, and those of you who have shared the stories of your own pets, and the stories of your friends pets, please spare a thought of love and support for Ninja and his mom. Losing a beloved pet is one of the hardest things in the world. They are family. They are one of life's threads that bind us and keep our hearts loving. My heart goes out to all of you, but right now especially to my moonbeam, for the loss of the love and companionship that comes with stopping of the loyal heart of a beloved four legged friend. Have you lost a pet lately? How did you cope?

Things are good with me Jo. Hubs is gone back to work now, so I'm back online. lol In spite of how hard it is to lose a pet, I would rather lose mine to old age than cancer. My heart just bleeds for Moondancer..............Hugs back at you sweets. And I'll be sure to see she gets your condolences.

You're not losing it Jo. I call her moonbeam too. It's my nickname for her. And I'm sure she wouldn't mind if you called her moonbeam too.

Sometimes i just cant help it but to fall in love with other peoples pets .But hey that doesnt mean i dont like the one that i have right now, its just that i appreciate how good the owner takes care of his or her pet.And it wont hurt to appreciate the beauty of other creatures too, it even gives me an idea bout how to treat my own pet too. ;)

Hi Sparks First of all I am so sorry Ninja has gone and he will be mourned on Gissi Fun Place I feel for Moon I really do I have had to do the deed 3 times and I stayed and held them while they crossed the Rainbow Bridge I would not let any of mine go alone and never will They have been part of my life, my Babies and when it is time they are not alone Moondancer did the right thing in the end and I know how hard that was for her We had our previous Dog Max cremated he was a golden Lab another one I rescued from a bad Home when he was 18 months, my Son and Max grew very close, my Son is like me when it comes to Dogs, the ashes are with my Son, as Max was more his Dog then anyone elses, he loved us all but Mike was his everything It is not easy to cope but keeping Busy will help he will always be with her

I just hope this thread brings our moon some comfort. She has pretty much gone through all this alone, and I just can't imagine how hard that must be for her. My Spunky is like your Max was. She is very close to my Devon and still mourns his not being here with her. Love like that is so touching and I often wish more humans were capable of it. lol Love you sweets, and hugs for your Gissi.........

sparky I too love Gissi,he captured my heart a long time ago, and still think hes the little man in the doggy suit. same for Gabs too, love her to pieces,. Wou ld love to meet them too.Oh I read about Moon dancers dog Ninja. My heart goes out to her, and I will send my prayers to her too along with all the other mylotters here.losing a pet is just like losing a member of yourfamily, well of course he is a member of Moon dancers family. I cried a lot after we had to find homes for Swap my dog a nd Midnight our black cat as we were moving into a cold hearted apt complex that does not permit pets. ugh.I coped but it was hard as we always had had pets, to give up a member of your own family is really tough.

Yes it is tough and I can't imagine how people get over it. I do know that when my Spunky girl's time comes, I'm going to be an absolute mess. My sympathies to you sweets for having to give up your own animals. How awful! Big hugs to you.

i had a home full of furry loved ones not that long ago. recent events has caused me (and more importantly, my wee sprite) to lose all of them but one, a kitten named Spawn, whom we brought with us where we are now. he lives on the porch so the senior resident feline doesnt eat him alive for invading her territory. how am i coping.. the only way ive been coping with everything else. because i HAVE to. mainly.. i avoid the thoughts as best as i can. when i start thinking too much i fall apart and im useless to anyone, and we just cant have that. my heart goes out to yer friend.. and you.

As you know we have had our share of this here on the ranch, in fact it's been a terrible year for loss of our four legged friends. Two Llamas and three cats. But in all cases we did what was best for the animals and just knowing that we did this has helped us cope with the loss. Though I still look for them in the fields and around the house. I never put fresh laundry on the bed to be folded without speaking to our beautiful black cat who for fourteen years met each load with joy. And hid in the warm cloths for hours. It's the hardest thing about loving animals.

Ihear ya Pat. I think it works that way for pets 'left behind' too. I know that after my son went into remission and could go back to his life in another province, my Spunky girl 'looked' for him for months. She still sleeps on the floor of his room and whines from time to time.

Yes, I too have become attached to Spunky and Gissi and a few more here...cats I might add of friends I met here. Thank you for the kind words for my baby and me. I am crying, as I have been all day and since Monday morning. I never got the chance to take him to see my mother, but she had a feeling and had my brother bring her up here to see him. This was a good thing as his cancer progressed very rapidly. He had trouble walking as the tumor was under the shoulder muscle. It started affecting his breathing on Saturday and was much worse on Monday. I miss my beautiful big boy. He is my baby, my companion, my friend, my shadow. The one I talked to about everything. He was with me through thick and thin. He loved without question. He the keeper of our home and the loving defender and protector of everyone that is here. I guess I've not been coping too well. I'm alone and there is no one to talk to. Which is probably a good thing as I am not good company now. I drag myself from here to there for things I must do. The rest of the time I'm just here seeing the empty spaces where my boy loved to lay and sit. I miss him terribly.

Ah sweetheart, I'm glad you are here. Read the other responses. Lots of people are grieving for you and with you, so you are not alone. You will cope the best way you know how and hopefully one day when you least expect those empty spaces won't hurt so much. I will keep a candle lit for you until then. Love and hugs.............Spunky is licking your avvy! lol

Yes, I just got through reading the responses. I just can't bring myself to write any more about him right now. I've been bawling all day as I am uncontrolably now. Thank you and I thank everyone else for their kind words. Please tell them thank you for me. Thank you too my dear friend.

No, not recently, but I worry about Star, for while she's hardly been a cuddly pet, she's been very decorative to have around. She's gotten very thin and because she's so feral, taking her to the vet is an ordeal that I've been putting off. Tuti, who has also gotten quite thin is still looking pretty bad, but at least she's recovered from her surgery and hopefully will be on the road to full recovery soon.

Hi,sparks As you know I am Ninja's grandma. My son took me to see him on friday..I am so glad I got to see him..When his dad came home they were going to bring him to see me but I just knew that I needed to go and see him,,of course I was hoping they would get to bring him to see me so I would get to see him two times..Sadly it did not work out that way..As sad and as painful as it is to lose him it was best for him..He is not in pain now.. He was such a good baby..He liked to try to sit on your lap..He talked and talked to me telling me every thing..He is missed by everyone that knew him..He was just a big baby and he loved Cheryl so much..I know he loved all of us.. Oh Martha, I'm so glad you got to see him when you did. I know that Cheryl is just gutted over this, and I do so wish I could be with her to hold her while she cried. I'm crying just thinnking about the pain she must be in, and all of those like you who loved Ninja too. What a terrible loss for you all. Please give her my love and tell her I'm thinking of her and her baby every day and look foward to the passing of her grief into acceptance so she will come back and be among us again. Love you............

Hey Daffy, The very first story you told about spunky made me fall in love with her. It was a story about her helping you out of some kind of trouble in the snow, I think the winter before this. Gissi...what's not to love? I tend to see my friends and their precious fury babies as a pair. You know, Mommy and child. Then of course our beautiful Ninja. Moon my heart breaks for you.I hope your other babies are taking good care of you. I have lost so many beloved pets in my life and the pain of losing them is excruciating, but the pure joy of having them in our lives for however long is worth every tear we shed when they are gone. As some of you may remember, I lost my precious little mini dachshund (Bogie) that made my life worth living. That was about a year and a half ago. Since then, my adorable little Dexter came into my life. He fills all the missing gaps in my life and more. Love Ya Daffy, Louie-

Hi sparky, It is so heartwrenching to heat the new, yes, I was told earlier on by Giss's mum who phoned me, my heart goes out to our dear Moonbeam, our pets are our children, our babies and its is so very hard to have to let go, but they will live in our hearts and thoughts. I have lost a few cats in my time and I know that they are still around me, when I lost my Roly, my cat few years ago, I couldn't function for weeks, still miss him. Yes you can fall in love with pets that is not yours as I have fallen in love with our Gissi too and I was fortunate to meet Gissi and Giss's mum, Gissis is so sweet and cute, he licked me and sat on my lap, Gissi's mum is lovely too, what a wonderful careing person she truely is, love her to bits. Love you too and can't wait to meet you, love and hugs always. Tamara

LOL Meeting him and his mum and you, and of course our Mr. Fish are going to be the highlights of my trip. In fact if Gabs is too welcoming, I just might not leave! LOL

Yes, I do. Only if the pet is cute. I think it's mostly because I am not the one that has to take care of it, feed it, and pick up its poop. I would never have a pet because I already have a hard time taking care of myself, but with other people's pet, I love playing with it. Please accept my condolences to the family. I know that for most people, their pets are family to them and to lose one, is like to lose a part of yourself. I've lost some along the way before and really it's not easy. Time do heal though and memories do live on.

well i usually admire pets those pets who could easy learn once they are being trained to do so. I will not used the term inlove just admire because they are pets and they are not human (laugh) but anyway i love participating this discussion really. since we have a lots of pets at home.

Something doesn't have to be human to be lovable does it? If that's true then I'm really confused about what love means! Do you not love any of the pets you have at home? They love you..............

I remember when my first dog had to be put to sleep. I was so young and I thought my broken heart would never be whole again. But as you say, he was in a better place, and eventually believing that allowed me to accept his loss and go on to love other pets in my life.
