Yes, it is okay to buy them. Bananas start out green on the tree, and when they are left to ripen, they turn yellow. Bananas that are green in the store just haven't had enough time to fully ripen yet. After a few days, you should notice them start to turn yellow, and then they will be good to eat (but don't eat them while they're still green! Yuck!)

Check with the attendant for the variety they sold. Some banana varieties are green even when they are ripe. These bananas too ripens very fast so that you won't be surprised should you find it over-riped in the store while still green. Check the smell strength: ripe bananas normally have stronger sweety smell. Also press tenderly the banana itself: is it too soft already (over-riped) or just about soft to the touch with much tone still in place.

They are usually shipped to the store green & ripen in time to increase shelf life on one of our favorite imported parishable items.

i think it's better to buy green bananas so they won't ripen easily...But some bananas are just green..they don't turn yellow- do you know that kind of banana?

Yeah its better to buy green because your prob not going to eat the whole bunch in a few days so if you buy green then they will ripen at home. They can be eaten green some type of diabetics eat them green because they cant process the sugar when they ripen

I actually like to eat only green bananas. I feel the yellow one(ripe ones) are too soft and they have too much flavor in them. The green ones are pretty sweet adn are of considerable hardness. I am not talking about very raw ones which are tasteless. So if they are considerably soft they are good to go. hope this helped.
