Bugs Bugs, How to deal with them?

I am not a bug person at all. I scream like a little girl every time one lands on me. Yet at the same time, I am an outdoor person. I like being outside and I like to garden and so on. Is there anything I can do to attract as less bugs as possible? I am having a habit of spraying my house (outside) with tons of bug killer spray, and I was thinking of putting in a few birdhouses in the trees. More birds = birds eat bugs- less bugs. Any ideas to make my yard as unbugwelcoming as possible? And how do you feel about bugs and the outdoors?

The bird thing only works if you happen to attract the correct type of birds. Birds that eat berries and seeds, won't kill any bugs. How to attract which type of bird, I do not know. Now I hate bugs too. Well not all bugs really. Things that are on the ground I don't mind. If a spider lands on me, I shake it off, and go on. But I hate flies. Hate them. The best option in my opinion, is simply to spray yourself with Skintastic or OFF! or any product with DEET in it. DEET is a chemical developed by the military for our fighting troops in woodland and jungle areas. The stuff works amazingly. Although, you don't want spray it on synthetic fiber clothes or anything with plastic. Too much will erode the clothing. But a cotton T-shirt or similar is unaffected. Another option that I've used with only limited success, is garlic. Bugs are generally repelled by garlic. Eating garlic in your food, prior to going camping, will naturally lower your attractiveness to insects. However, your mileage will vary. It depends on how quickly the garlic is processed out of your body, and your ph. balance. There is one thing you do not want to do. Never get a bug zapper. The blue light will kill the bugs that find it, but otherwise, it will only attract more bugs to the area.

What's wrong with BUGS???? THey are great!!! BUGS are part of the food chain in this world. The place just wouldn't be the same without them. Let's see.More birds.I love that one.Don't have standing water around. Lights at night attract bugs.Wrap up that trash really well.BUGS love leftovers. Piles of leaves or wood attract some bugs. With summer and warm weather, just like people, BUGS like to get out and about. Oh, having BUGS around is probably healthier than all that bug spray you are exposed to. Rethink things. BUGS ARE REALLY GREAT!!

Oh my god, Im the same as you, I hate all bugs, the only thing I can do to keep control is just making sure that my place is clean and not cluttered as bugs can obviously hide in clutter, also I have citronella candles that I burn to hopefully keep bugs away, apparently they are good for flies and mossies so I hope they work with others, I do try to get over my fear by actually trying to pick them up, I havent managed yet but I keep getting closer and closer so hopefully soon. Good luck!!
