Sims 2 or 3?

I just had Sims 3 in my computer and I was thinking of buying sims 2. I read a lot of positive comments about sims 2, like how it's more entertaining and better than sims 3. But Sims 3 is the latest one so I thought that it'll be a waste of money to buy an older version. Which do you recommend?

Well honestly Im a Sims fanatic and I really love playing all the Sims series from 1 to 3 and their expansions. I might say after playing Sims 3 it is also quite rewarding going old school and playing the older versions cause yeah, we could say that Sims 3 is the latest but compared to the other versions the life of your sims also became complicated due to the many features available. So i guess its not that bad playing a lower version of Sims so that you may also feel the simplicity of the game itself. :D
